# Objective of calculation :

To calculate the pressure drop across 1 inch gasket put into mistankly in 1.5 inch tube considering 180 lpm

Calculation :
For calculation of pressure drop, we refer standard :Perry,s chemical engineers handbook (see referance p

Formula given in it ;

h= Q2*ρ*(1-β^4)/(C*A)^2

Where,
h - Pressure drop across orifice plate, mm of water column
Q - Flow rate in tube, m3/s
A - area of orifice, m2
β - ratio of inner diameter to bore size of the orifice
C- discharge co-efficient
d- internal dia. orifice, mm

Calculations,
For calculating β,

β =d/Di
Where,
Di- inner dia. Of tube
d- bore size of orifice (here, inner dia of gasket)

## Area of orifice =3.14*d/4

Data:
Outside dia. Of 1.5 inch SS tube : 38.1
thickness of tube 1.65
d, 1 inch Gasket internal dia. 22.2
Q, Flow rate 180
C, Co-efficient of discharge 0.61
Liquid flowing through pipe Water
Water density 1000
Di,internal dia of tube = outside dia.- 2*thickness of tube
34.8

From eq. 2
β , dia. Ratio 0.6379310345
From eq. 3
A, Area of orifice 386.8794 mm2
0.0003868794 m2

## Flow rate, Q 0.003 m3/s

By, Eq.1
h, Pressure drop = 67416.944 Pa
