2. Learning English through Sports Communication

You are a member of your school's Basketball Team. Today you took part in a basketball competition against
a neighbouring school. During the match, several players were sent off. Write a diary entry about what happened.

3. Learning English through Drama

You are helping to organise a school trip to watch a performance of the Shakespeare play Macbeth. The play is being
performed as part of the Hong Kong Arts Festival, and tickets for students cost $40. Write an email to parents to
inform them about the trip. In the email, explain that the trip is voluntary and open to all students, mention the benefits
of attending the event and provide any other details you think are important for parents to know.

4. Learning English through Social Issues

You work at the SPCA in the animal welfare division. You have been asked to give a speech to a group of secondary
students about respect for animals. In the speech, explain what respect for animals means, include recent examples
of animal cruelty that you have read about in the newspaper, and suggest what can be done to change people's attitudes
towards animals. Write the speech.

5. Learning English through Debating

You are the chairperson of your school's Debating Club and you are writing a speech to give at the start of this year's
annual debate competition. In the speech, introduce the competition, reflect on how the competition has changed over
the years, wish the competitors well and end with thanks to the organisers.

6. Learning English through Workplace Communication

You work as a personal assistant. Your boss has noticed that many employees are spending an inappropriate amount
of time on social networking sites during office hours and has asked you to write an article for the company newsletter
about the problem. In the article, write about the issue and how it affects work performance, and give employees
guidelines about when it is permitted to use the Internet for personal use.

7. Learning English through Popular Culture

These days, it is becoming more common to see graffiti on our streets. Some graffiti artists such as Banksy and the
King of Kowloon have even become famous. Write an article for an online youth magazine questioning whether
graffiti is art or crime. Conclude the article with your own opinion. Give your article a suitable title.
