Objectives:
• Students will make individual choices to change lyrics of a song by singing “Hello Song” and
“How Old Are You, My Pretty Little Miss?”
• Students will perform music in AB form by performing “How Old Are You, My Pretty Little
Miss?”
• Students will sing in solo head voice and demonstrate a sustained, steady macro beat by
performing “Charlie Over the Ocean”
• Students will sing music in AB form with differing meters by performing “P-P-Pollyanna”
• Students will make connections between music and nature, science, and reading by performing
and responding to Over In the Garden
• Students will audiate by singing selected responses to Over In the Garden
Basic Vocabulary:
• Lyrics, beat, response, echo
Prior Knowledge:
• Musical and lyrical structure of echo songs
• Call and responses for Over In the Garden
Procedures:
1) Musical Attendance
2) Perform “Hello Song” with three new circle students
3) “How Old Are You, My Pretty Little Miss?” with and without teacher singing
• Student 1: How old are you? What day of the week is it??
• Student 2: Where do you live? Te-he-he or ha-ha-ha?
• Student 3: What can you do? Te-he-he or ha-ha-ha?
• Student 4: Where are you going? Te-he-he or ha-ha-ha?
4) “Charlie Over the Ocean”
• Students echo teacher call-and-response (First time singing this song)
• Review rules of game and movements
• Students sing as soloists and in groups while playing
5) “P-P-Pollyanna”
• Sing through as class, with teacher tambourine sustaining tempo as needed
• Group of 3 students begin, class cycles through with singing and movement
6) Story-time: Over In the Garden
• Read through Over In the Garden with student responses
• Students discuss animals and numbers used in book
Closure:
• Review animals and numbers from Over In the Garden
Indicators of Success:
• Students can sing “Hello Song” with adjusted lyrics based on circle student
• Students can perform “How Old Are You, My Pretty Little Miss?” with adjusted lyrics selected by
individual students
• Students can perform A and B sections of “How Old Are You, My Pretty Little Miss?”
• Students can perform “Charlie Over the Ocean” by using their head voice while singing and
independently sustaining a steady beat
• Students can perform “P-P-Pollyanna” with correct singing and movements
• Students can perform correct responses for Over In the Garden and discuss numbers and animals
Follow-up:
• Continued movements for each classroom song, with more small group and independent singing
