Grade Level(s): K

Content Standard Addressed: SKCS1. Students will be aware of the importance of curiosity, honesty,
openness, and skepticism in science and will exhibit these traits in their own efforts to understand how
the world works. a. Raise questions about the world around you and be willing to seek answers to some of

Universal Design for Learning (UDL): With this site, I can use both words, animation, and video to be able
to communicate with a broad range of student’s ability to learn.
Lesson idea implementation: This video will be presented to kindergarteners as a beginning to their
observational skills in science. In this lesson they learn about the 5 senses of observation. After the
PowerPoint, I will give them a few items that will require them to use their senses to make their observations.

After the lesson, I would give them new items and a worksheet. This worksheet would contain the 5 senses
and a blank. They would use their senses and write down what they observed.

Reflective Practice: This activity is meant to help the students understand how their senses are meant to be
used. As an extension, I would have them go home and write down the things that trigger their senses the
most, like the smell of food or the honk of a car horn.
