Direct and Responsive Services
Program Development
- Design and implement a comprehensive school counseling program for a new, college-preparatory public
charter middle school addition of 375 students from over nine different counties.
Individual Counseling
- Conduct individual counseling sessions with students that focus on a variety of topics, including but not
limited to: academic progress, school transition, studying/organization techniques, coping strategies, social
skills, conflict resolution, and peer mediation. Partner with parents and families to support the whole child.
- Crisis Intervention and Referrals: Collaborate as needed to appropriately assess and refer out crisis
situations related to mental health concerns, physical and emotional abuse, community violence, non-
suicidal self-injury, and suicidal ideation.
Group Counseling
- Diversity Awareness: Psychoeducational group twice a week for nine weeks to build a sense of identity and
foster inclusivity. 100% of students could indicate at least two or more identity categories after 4 weeks.
- Test Anxiety and Study Skills: Eight group sessions to explore test taking and anxiety reduction strategies,
improve study skills, and practice stress coping methods in an inclusive group setting.
Classroom Guidance Lessons
- Topics include: Introduction to the School Counselor, Note-taking and Study Skills, Growth Mindset,
Bullying Prevention, Social Media Safety and Technology, Healthy Relationships, Grade Level Transition,
Exam Preparation, and Mindful Decision Making.
Interventions as a School Counselor
Needs Assessment
- Utilize needs assessments to inform the school counseling program. Assessments indicated that in their
previous school experience, 35% of students had experienced thoughts of suicide or self-injury, 40% had
experienced bullying behaviors, and 15% of students had experienced a recent loss.
Consultation
- Establish communication between the counseling office and stakeholders to meet student need.
- Provide intensive supports for students identified for possible academic and behavioral intervention.
- Assist with the development and implementation of 504 and IEP plans.
- Develop and implement protocols for school crisis, bullying behavior, and mental health referral processes.
- Coordinate all parent-teacher conferences and serve as a liaison between families and school staff.

Community Building and Planning


- School Tour Facilitator: Coordinate and provide all school tours grades 6-12.
- Academic Coaching Program: Design and implement an academic peer mentoring program with over 60
middle school participants and 20 high school mentors meeting weekly for 16 weeks. 95% of student pairs
reported this as a helpful and productive experience.
- Orientation to a College-Preparatory Middle School
• School-wide parent orientation with trainings in use of Canvas and information about school culture.
- Career Days
• Two-day career information sessions with over 52 career panelists for students grades 6-12.
- Coffee with the Counselor: Social Media and Technology Safety for Grades 6-12
• Family-focused event to teach mental health effects of technology and parental safety controls.
- Team Time
• Coordinate/schedule all “Team Time” sessions (45 min each/twice a week within the school day).
• Taught/advised Random Acts of Kindness Club for 9 weeks and Intro to German Club for 18 weeks.

Eno River Academy High School – Hillsborough, NC | School Counseling Intern August 2016-May 2017
- Designed and implemented a comprehensive school counseling program in collaboration with site
supervisor according to American School Counselor Association national guidelines.
- Provided individual theory-based counseling to a caseload of 57 students grades 9-10 for individual
academic, career, and personal/social needs.
- Assisted 100% of students create accounts on CFNC.org to learn more about college and career
opportunities through Holland Code type and Myers-Briggs personality assessments.
- Facilitated small group, classroom guidance, and advisory lessons to all students on topics such as Growth
Mindset, Resilience, Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens, Resume Writing, and Exam Preparation.
- Utilized school data and needs assessments to advocate for student growth and achievement.
- Began a schoolwide Backpack Buddies program for students and their families with financial need.
- Met individually with students with a course grade of 60 or below for Strengths-Based goal setting.
- Advised Random Acts of Kindness club and Running club.
- Designed and implemented a Social Media and Technology Safety parent night for grades 6 through 10.
- Implemented a Mindfulness Room intervention for students struggling with symptoms of anxiety. 60% of
students reported a reduction in anxiety after utilizing the intervention at least twice.

Orange High School – Hillsborough, NC | Cross-Site School Counseling Intern April 2017-June 2017
- Met individually with 15 juniors and seniors without post-secondary plans twice each for 12 weeks, by the
end of all individual meetings 100% of students had applied to at least two college/career options.
- Assisted students with SAT sign up and course registration.
- Collaborated with school counseling staff in whole-team meetings for specific student cases.
