I am proficient in hands on, interactive situations, and deal with these
Skills/Summary situations with skill and ease. In the workplace, I’ve been told that I’m a
focused, dedicated perfectionist with a knack for finding long term
solutions to difficult issues. Though confident in approachable activities, I
tend to fall behind and procrastinate when I lack the motivation.

Monterey Bay Aquarium / Staff Member
Experience
Helping out both outside and behind the scenes, my experience working
at the Monterey Bay Aquarium worked towards promoting a healthy
ocean and a sustainable lifestyle.

The Marine Mammal Center / Staff

The The Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito, CA. is a rescue and
rehabilitation center for local marine creatures in need of help. They
work full time to assist and attend to any call or alert they receive.

Wildlife Conservation Society / Intern

Located in New York City, WCS is an organization spread all around the
world with the motive of keeping our natural world safe, clean, and well
integrated with modern Earth. They work through methods of science,
conservation, and education to the general public.

Scripps Institution of Oceanography / Doctoral
Education
Scripps Institution of Oceanography is located in La Jolla, CA., and is centered
around advanced research, modern methods, and the deep exploration of the
seas and world.

Halmos College of Natural Sciences and Oceanography /

Undergraduate
The start my research and study into oceanography/ marine biology, I
pursued the biology section of Nova Southeastern University. At this part
of NSU, students study the chemistry, physics, and of course the animals
of the oceans while in independent and social environments.

The position of which I am applying is for an occupation related to and
Objective connected to marine biology. Preferably, I would favor a more hands on
working environment, but an alternative is also adequate.

Research on Marine Biology: A Reflection

I’ve always had an innate fascination with the sea and what it harbored, so it was a fairly easy

choice when picking my desired future profession. Marine biology —or oceanography to many— is the

study of the living ocean, it’s inhabitants, and its systems. Before setting off to gather research, I hadn’t

really known just how many organizations hosted biology-based opportunities, but kinda have any

positions open. Jobs relating to hands-on branches of the field are actually in high demand, with little

positions open. I also wasn’t aware of just how many colleges offer courses on oceanography for

degrees, as I started my research knowing of only a handful of college opportunities. Most of the forms

of study focus mainly on the observation and research of the underwater ecosystem; but, other

professions, such as veterinarian branches and marketing, also come in quite handy when filling open

roles.

For the interview I conducted, I wanted to mainly focus on what I’ve always wanted to do: work

in the hands-on aspects. I reached out to the general inquiries email of The Marine Mammal Center in

Sausalito, CA., saying that I was an aspiring biology student with some questions, and was met with an

almost immediate response. Danielle Henderson, an education programs assistant, answered my short

set of questions with an abundance of useful information for any future biologist. She answered

questions such as the challenges she faces in her job, an average day at the facilities, and

recommendations for future studies. She actually recommended a program for teens working at the

center, which I may apply for next summer! I wasn’t too surprised with what I was told, except how

difficult it may be to actually get involved in the field. Henderson described that PhDs and/or Masters

degrees are not required for most jobs, but rather experience and the amount of work you have backing

you. For veterinary focused jobs in the lab and working with medical procedures, many years in vet

school is required for work.

Overall, I feel like this project and the research conducted within it was very beneficial to me.

It’s really inspired to work even harder to reach my goal as a marine-biologist, and the information has

stuck with me.
