Foreword

The paintings in this book are from the days I was experimenting in painting. In those days I was reading history
of art books. My great interest in those books made me to paint with influence of great painters and painting
styles, but I wanted to find my personal style in painting. In this book you can see my painting in the large frame
and in the smaller bottom frame you can see the painting which inspired me to design that piece.
Drawing pictures of myself and my friends was a daily routine in that time. But when I attended the classes of
Reza Abedini in the course of Graphic Design at the University, I didn't continue to paint anymore. Later on I did
different Graphic Design projects such as Packaging Design, Music CD Covers Design and Lettering. My gradua-
tion project was Designing a Typeface to explore a new area in the field of Graphic Design.
After graduation and during the military service I did some more paintings, although I was painting based on
needs of the client not according to my own personal taste. Therefore after the military service I started to do
some graphic design projects which some of them are demonstrated in this book. The most important aspect of
my works after the military service was the big difference between my new works and the works before the
military service.

In this painting I'm holding a

lantern and I'm standing in front
of religous symbols which gave
me an impression like mysteri-
ous feelings I got from the "Gieor-
gio de Chrico" paintings. At the
time I was deeply involved with
the idea of religion.

It was very facsinating for me to

paint an image with letters and
abstract forms just like paintings of
"Paul Klee". Although I mostly
express my emotions with figura-
tive images so this painting didn't
turn out to be completey abstract. I
wanted to use colors with complete
freedom and because I wanted to
express my feelings to a gril without
saying it in words, in this painting I
used first letter of her name
combined with erotic parts of
woman. When I added the figura-
tive parts to the painting I finally
was able to fully appreciate the
work of "Paul Klee" in the below
picture.

One night I had a very bad dream

and when I woke up the only
thing I remembered was the
"Scream" painting by "Edvard
Munch". In this painting I wanted
to express dark side of my mind.

This Painting is influenced by

collection of paintings by "Georgia
o'keeffe" which are painted from
different flowers and seemed
erotic to me. I tried to accantuate
the erotic feeling in my own
painting.

I painted this piece for one of my friends

who I was seperating from at the time. It's
his portrait and it was completed after four
hours of painting.

"Henry Matisse" used in coloring
his paintings.

Dr. Mohamad Fowghi This painting is influenced by the works of "Andre Derain". To show ill and poor
Oil on Canvas face of the portrait, I used sharp and fauvistic colors in the painting. He died
three months after this painting was completed.

The two above pieces were painted to send my

condolence for death of my friend's father. At this
time I was deeply infleunced by the works of expres-
sionists and fauvists. The above paintings are specifi-
cally inspired by the left painting from "Edvard
Munch".

of "Bernard Buffet". Feeling of
lonliness which is evident in portratis
of the Buffet was very impressive for
me.

 Alone in the campus

This painting is influenced by the

works of "Bernard Buffet" and
"Ludwig Kirchner". In a one year
during my study in the University of
Tehran I was feeling lonely and the
only way to cope with my lonliness
was painting these self portraits.

completed in an hour and that was my
solution to relaese my angriness and

of "Chaim Soutine" which shows
slaughtered body of cows. In my
painting you can see my body in front
of a computer which is playing a
pornography video. It shows my
erotic feelings combined with great
depression.

This is a classwork to design a

package of cigarettes for an Iranian
brand. The blow picture is opened
view of the package and the only part
which is done by me is the design, the
actual package is from the "Marllbro"
brand.

This is a classwork for the "Corporate Identity"

class and the biggest challenge for me was to
design for the branding and advertising agency
of my teacher. The below picture shows the
actual corporate identity of the agency.

This is a branding design for

my friend's shop. The
purpose of the design was
to introduce the shop to the
city by using a radical
approach in design and
colors compared to other
stores in the city.

 Fragile Music Album
CD Cover Design
2009

This is a classwork to design a Music cd Cover for the

"Fragile" album of the "Nine Inch Nails" porgressive rock
band. The below picture shows the actual cover which is
designed by the "David Carson". The music cd was released
in 1999 which contained two cds labeled with the words
"Right" and "Left". I had to design a Farsi logo to match
ideally with the Latin logo. The following page shows my
final designed cd package in detail.

CD Cover Design
2014

This is a Music CD Cover and Catalogue

for an Iranian music band. The special part
of designing this project was that I
designed different typographic titles for
every song in the calatalogue.

2010-11

These are some farsi

letters which I designed
during my leisure time.
My intention was to
design some decorative
and beautiful letters
without paying attention
to calligraphy or legibili-
ty.

Saber Bold Typeface
2011

This typeface was done for my graduation project

in the University of Tehran. It was an attempt to
combine features from two of my favorite typefaces
in one typeface. It is intended to be used in running
text and only contains bold weight. The sketches
went through lots of change during the design and
you can see them in the following page. At the end
I imported my design into the Fontalb Studio
application and generated the font for final tests
and proofing. This project is still in progress.
