Child Welfare Information Gateway. (2013). Long-term consequences of child abuse and neglect.
Washington, DC: U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Children’s Bureau.
My first source was incredibly comprehensive using the ACE study, the LONGSCAN
study, and the NSCAW study, some of the largest studies on child abuse. It covered almost every
aspect regarding the consequences of abuse. It covered the physical, mental, behavioral, and
societal consequences. They all are connected and can make life very difficult for an innocent
child. They all lead to a lower level of life involving raised rates of drugs and crime. Knowing
how abuse can change a child’s life shows to the public just how detrimental it is.
I believe this is a credible source for a few reasons. First, it is a government website
provided to benefit the community and raise awareness. Second, not only did they use very
reputable research studies, they also had a very lengthy list of other research used to make a very
informative fact sheet. They also advertise that this information should be spread around also
leading to raised awareness. The more people that are aware, the less children will get abused.

This website went over the impacts of child abuse, specifically the long term impacts.
Child abuse doesn’t affect only the child or the family, it can bring down entire communities. It

raises criminal behavior, hurts school attendance, just the overall quality of society. It can also
lead to a lot of toxic stress in children’s lives. A ten year old shouldn’t have to deal with the
stress of finding food to eat or being scared to go home. It can completely ruin the chance of

prevent it. It also focuses on the ACE study which is some of the most comprehensive research
Mayo Clinic Staff. “Child Abuse.” Mayo Clinic, Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and
causes/syc-20370864.
This was a very broad source, covering many different things involving child abuse. It
first went over the many different symptoms of abuse. Everything from mental issues that arise
to physical issues that are detrimental to the child’s life. After that it covers the many different
signs that somebody should look out for. This is one of the most important things to cover
because if people aren’t aware things go unnoticed and the child may not have somebody to go
to for help. The last thing is covers is when you should seek help, and who to talk to. All of these
things are very important to raising awareness and solving this problem.
This source is very credible because the Mayo Clinic directly provides support to the
research. It doesn’t have one specific author, it is written by a team of doctors that specialize in
child abuse. They have real locations to have appointments and consolations. This information
isn’t written to push some agenda or make a statement, they truly want to raise awareness and

This website also went over the many different indicators and signs of child abuse. It
covered the different things to look for with babies and older children. This is relevant because
they each have very different things to look for. Everybody should be aware of the different
indicators. It also covers the unusual behaviors that people should watch for. On top of this, they
explain it isn’t always the behavior that should alert somebody, but the drastic changes in the
things a child normally does. These are the important things that people should be aware of.
This website is a good, credible source because it is the main helpline for child abuse in
the UK. They have a helpline and staff to answer questions or give advice. They have a plethora
of information on prevention as well as the indicators. They also do their own research which
people cans support and donate to. They are there to give help to those who need it, and inform
Prevent Child Abuse America. “Emotional Child Abuse - Fact Sheet.” Prevent Child Abuse
This source is a fact sheet covering many different things on child abuse. It helps raise
awareness, prevention, and it also goes over the effects. First, it goes into detail about what it is,
what it looks like, and who would commit such a crime. These are important to becoming
knowledgeable about the subject. Second, it explains what can be done for the victims. If you
don’t know how or who to report it to nobody would get help. Last, it explains how this problem
can be prevented. These all work together to make the public more aware and more children safe.
mainly there to help people. They aren’t asking for money or advertising silly products. They are
there to raise awareness which, in turn, creates a safer community for everybody. The more
people that are aware, the less opportunity something has to go unnoticed. One of the main
reasons child abuse can last for so long is simply because it goes unnoticed. They also have a
