Failure: System error #1 • Check drive belts for proper installation and tightness.
• Check drive encoder for proper installation and ensure collar is secure on drive shaft.
Problem: Main drive motor • Replace drive encoder.
move failed. • Replace drive motor.

Failure: System error #2 • Check system menu for correct beam on path (Coaxial/Ribbon).
• Check to see if diode is un-shunted.
Problem: Laser did not hit • Ensure cables are connected to optics (Ribbon on all optics, and coaxial on all high speed
SOL detector. and Mako 56 systems).
• Check jumpers on main controller board for proper installation (BC for standard
speed/AB for high speed).
• Check to see if spinner motor is operational.
• Check optics for blown diode (Set laser to 225 in calibrate laser menu and check TP5
AP24680 bd.> 9.0 volts when diode is blown).
• Check SOL signal on main controller board and set to proper levels.

Failure: System error #3 • Check jumper on main controller board and install (JP1).
• Replace main controller board.
Problem: No active video.
Failure: System error #4 • Check cutter for proper connection to controller board.
• Attempt to park cutter from menu. If cutter only parks on one side replace cutter sensor.
Problem: Cutter move • If cutter does not move or is slow, replace cutter motor.
failed. • Replace cutter.

Problem: Film Scratching • Advance and cut media from system without cassette. Inspect film for scratches. If not
present, inspect and replace take-up cassette.
• Check output slot for proper gap.
• Check vertical face of input shelf for residue. Clean and adjust shelf location.
• Pull film from input cassette and check for scratches. If present replace input cassette.
• Replace cutter.

Failure: Film Buckling • Check proper placement of input cassette.

• Clean Drive roller.
Problem: Film is tracking • Check alignment of input cassette shelf. Adjust if necessary.
away from main drive roller. • Replace input cassette.
• Replace drive or pinch assembly (Mako 56 only).

Problem: Jitter • Check SOL signal. Set to proper levels.

• Replace spinner motor.
Failure: Wavy vertical line • Replace spinner motor controller board (high speed only).

Failure: • Check encoder for proper installation.

Elongated/Shortened image • Replace drive motor.
• Replace encoder.
Problem: Image is distorted
in film motion direction.

Failure: Film jamming • Check cutter for Film debris.

• Check output slot for proper gap.
Problem: Film is jamming • Check take-up cassette for proper operation. Ensure no media is left inside cassette.

in either the cutter assembly • Remove cutter and check cutter clamp for excessive bow. Straighten if possible. Replace
or take-up cassette cutter.

Failure: Communication • Check connections to image-setter.

problem • Power-cycle image-setter and Re-boot computer.
• Check menu for proper setting of I/O port (Serial/Remote).
Problem: Image-setter has • Run internal test patterns to check operation of imagesetter. If no output or output is
lost communication with RIP distorted, replace main controller board.
• Check internal connections to main controller board and scsi board.
• Replace SCSI board.

Failure: Registration • Clean drive roller.

• Check encoder for proper installation.
Problem: Film is not • Check output cassette for excess film left in cassette.
Repeatable over four • Check input cassette for smooth operation.
consecutive outputs. • Replace take-up cassette.
• Replace encoder.
• Replace input cassette.
• Replace drive assembly.
Failure: Banding • Check belt tension.
• Check pulleys to ensure they are secure on shafts.
• Check encoder for proper installation.
• Check SOL signal for proper levels.
• Check input cassette for smooth operation.
• Replace drive motor.
• Replace spinner motor.
• Replace input cassette.
• Replace drive encoder.
• Replace spinner motor controller board (High speed only).
