Ten Reasons to Purchase Reproducibles

1. Stretch Your Book Budget Dollars
If you purchase a class set the cost is about $25 x 25 student books = $625. Get similar content by
purchasing one of our reproducibles for less than $60. These books are cost effective.

2. Expand Your Teacher Resource Centre

For less than the price of a class set you could have 10 different reproducible workbooks in your
school resource centre.

3. You Can Photocopy Legally

The publisher grants permission to the purchaser to photocopy, unlike those other books.

4. Enrich Your Curriculum

Keep your students’ interest high with a rich variety of material.

5. Openers
Does your class start at nine but the students trickle in from 8:45 to 9:20? Use reproducible
exercises as class openers. Get your students working in English right away.

6. Reduce Your Prep Time

Keep your prep time to a minimum. The exercises in these books are ready-to-go. Even if you are
paid $30 per hour, but you prep on your own time for two hours for one hour of teaching, you are
really only making $10 per hour. Think of purchasing prep time at about fifty cents an hour. Save
hundreds of hours of prep time for a small investment.

7. Service Students with Diverse Levels and Needs

With reproducibles you can pick and choose from a wide variety of material to meet the specific
needs of individual students.

8. Supply Teaching
Supply teachers, don’t panic when you get that call, with just a few of these books you’ll have lots of
material on hand.

9. Great Homework Pages

Assigning homework has never been easier. Copy and handout.

10. Review and Remedial

Not every student understands the lesson the first time. These books are great for review and
remedial.

How To Play
Divide the students into groups of 3–12.
1. Each player needs a set of answer cards (A, B, C) and betting
cards (5, 10, 20). Each player starts with 50 points.
2. The first player (1) draws a question card from the stack and reads the question and possible
answers, inserting the name of the player on his/her right (2) in the blank line. For example, “What is
Maria’s favourite meal of the day? A. Dinner. B. Lunch. C. Breakfast.”
3. All the players place one guess card, A, B, or C upside in front of them.
4. Next they place one betting card, 5, 10, or 20, upside down in front of them.
5. Player 2 chooses an answer card without showing the others and places it upside down. S/he
does not bet on his/her own answer. When all answer cards are placed and betting cards are down,
player 2 reveals his/her answer. Then all the other players reveal their guesses and bets. The bets
are recorded, points are added to or taken away from the 50 points each player starts with. (Each
group should appoint one recorder.)
6. Encourage your students to discuss the question, and the answers.
7. Next, it is player 2’s turn to take and read the next question card.

INTERMEDIATE - ADVANCED
NEW!
Let’s Move On - Prefix and Suffix Exercises
A Four Book Vocabulary Building Series Based on Themes
Marilee Carlson
Students increase their vocabulary by building upon words they already know. An understanding of
prefixes and suffixes increases a student’s comprehension more quickly than learning individual
words in isolation. Each book in this series is organized around groups of prefixes or suffixes that
deal with common themes.

 Book 1 - Function
 Book 2 - Negation
 Book 3 - Absence/Presence
 Book 4 - Description

The Lesson Plan For Each Unit

1. A basic presentation of the eight parts of speech and their functions in English sentences.
2. The suffixes/prefixes are introduced.
3. The first page of the lesson is filled out together as a class.
4. A matching activity provides further introduction to the suffixes and prefixes.
5. A list of common words that contain the suffix/prefix is discussed as a class.
6. Sentence Practice A. In the cloze activity students choose words from the Word Bank, alter them
and complete the sentences.
7. Sentence Practice B gives students a structured opportunity to change an underlined word to a
new word with the suffix/prefix and make an altered sentence e.g., Sam bakes pies and cakes. /
Sam is a baker. The words to be changed are underlined in Part B of each practice.
8. Sentence Practice C is the same as B but the students are asked to determine on their own
which words to change. All of the words to be changed are included in the list found on the
second page of the lesson, so students will always be able to refer to the list to see which
words in the practice sentences can be combined with the suffix/prefix.
9. Unit Review - Sentence Practice Quiz: Students are presented with sentences from the previous
sentence exercises and they are required to change a word to a new word with the suffix/prefix
and make an altered sentence.
10. Unit Review - Four In A Row: Students attempt to place four consecutive markers in any direction
on the board by giving correct sentences using the words given with a Unit suffix or prefix.
11. Unit Review - Dominoes: Root word and suffix/prefix pieces are paired to make a word. Students
can begin with 5 dominoes and take turns constructing some sort of shape (circle, rectangle,
house, car) by forming correctly spelled words
12. Unit Review - A Board Game: Players move around the board by making new words that contain
a suffix/prefix joined to the word on the card that has been drawn. Depending on the degree of
difficulty desired, players can be asked to spell the new word. They can also be asked to use the
word in a sentence.

Answer keys are included.

Literacy - Beginner
Sophie Wang’s Phonics Book for Adult ESL Students
LINC Themes - Includes a CD
Sophie Wang
Learning to decode on the letter-level is an inevitable process for a student to become a successful reader,
but many phonics books are either designed for children or for illiterate adult native speakers, not for adult
ESL students. Sophie Wang was inspired by her adult ESL students to develop phonics materials for ESL
learners with practical, useful content for everyday English. This is an important distinction; the vocabulary
which interests adult ESL learners is different from early education students because of their needs and
motivation. A five-year old may be interested in learning pony, but an adult ESL driver may eagerly want to
learn Private Parking - especially if they have been ticketed or towed! Sophie’s 175 page book covers 10
LINC themes of interest to adult ESL students.

Multi-Level - Pre-Benchmark, CLB 1, CLB 2, and an Audio CD
A Three Book Series by Maria Crapsi & Agnes Kucharska
Each book in this three book series has three levels, Pre-Benchmark, CLB 1 and CLB 2. Each level begins
with an illustrated target vocabulary or vocabulary section then moves onto vocabulary building exercises,
and reading, writing, listening and speaking exercises. The audio CD is a great way for your students to hear
more native speakers of English in your classroom.

Body & Ailments + Health & Pharmacy - Includes an Audio CD

This is the third book by Maria and Agnes. Body and Ailments + Health and Pharmacy works well with any
beginner class, but is ideal for a teacher with a multi-level beginner class. All teachers know the challenge of
finding material for a multi-level class. It’s difficult to find one workbook to meet the needs of all the students.
We created our own material to overcome this problem. Each theme has three beginner levels. Most target
vocabulary is illustrated, but in some cases higher level students will be asked to use their dictionaries to
define the target vocabulary. The students reinforce the new vocabulary with time-tested exercises. Once the
vocabulary is reinforced the students practise their new vocabulary through reading, writing, listening and
speaking exercises. A rich variety of exercises will interest and engage your students.

Teachers often wish there was an audio CD with workbooks. They want their students to hear more native
speakers of English in their classroom. The audio CD included with this book has four native speakers - 2
male and 2 female. The CD content and track numbers are listed in the Table of Contents. Also look
for the symbol seen to the right on the exercise pages. It indicates an audio CD track is available and CD
the track number. Some tracks are dedicated listening exercises, some are audio answer keys and 3
others are alternative tracks for read-a-long or passive listening. If you don’t want your students to be
passive listeners try this activity. Photocopy the target vocabulary, pass out one word to each student and
then play the read-a-long track. Each time the student hears their word they hold it up or they stand up.

In each unit you will find a page of flashcards. These are great for matching games such as memory.
Also included are Listening And Speaking Tests. These test vocabulary and sometimes preposition of place.
For example, while looking at the grid of illustrations a student may be asked, “Is the doctor above the
surgeon?” The student will need to know the vocabulary and where the illustration is on the page in relation to
other illustrations. We have included a preposition of place review sheet and activity in the Appendix.

Romeo & Juliet
Three Levels For Beginner ESL & Literacy Students In One Book
Adapted by Rose Coffey
Teachers frequently ask for age-appropriate stories for their young adult and adult students at the beginner
level. This book includes three adaptations of Romeo and Juliet for beginners. The beginner student only has
to learn 96 words to understand the simplest adaptation. And these 96 words are ones that they need every
day in their lives! Only three words in the story are not on “the most commonly used words” list: Romeo,
Juliet, and Tybolt. If the students can describe the basic simplified plot of the play with only 96 words, imagine
what else they will be able to speak about. This book is ideal for the teacher who has a class of beginner
students at a variety of levels. Each of the three adaptations comes with its own vocabulary list and exercises.
The exercises include:

verb tense exercises fill in the blanks true or false word find

crosswords adjectives nouns bingo

syllables spelling tests alphabetical order a unit on family

comprehension questions opposites match the word to the picture

The appendix includes a website activity, and tips for putting on a student-generated Romeo and Juliet play.

Real Stories
Real Heroes, Real Animals & Real People
Pat Dyck
This book is for students who are reading sentences and ready to move on to stories. Each of the sixteen
uplifting, high-interest stories in this book are 100-150 words long and written in about 20 short simple
sentences. The author found her students could read simple sentences but were intimidated by the paragraph
form of news stories. She presents each story first in a comic strip form - pictures with key nouns and verbs.
The second version of each story is in an easy-to-read sentence-by-sentence format, i.e., each sentence is
on its own line. Later in each unit your students will read the story in paragraph form. This technique is called
scaffolding, the students is successfully eased into paragraph reading, and it works .There are a wide variety
of ready–to–photocopy exercises to reinforce new vocabulary and ideas. The exercises:

comprehension true or false pronunciation tips short answers

sentence completion corrections negative sentences verbs tenses

Out of Your Chairs! 40 Active Games for ESL
Dani MacArthur & Thane Ladner
Out of Your Chairs! was developed in ESL classrooms. The authors saw the need to supplement the tradi-
tional desk, pen and paper language lessons with active, physical and communicative activities. Students can
only sit for a certain period of time before their capacity to learn diminishes. Active ESL games present a
structured, enjoyable was to continue learning a new language. Some students learn languages with their
whole body and Out of Your Chairs! provides a variety of ways of experiencing English kinesthetically. During
the games students communicate with each other and the teacher. Students come to life! Shy students forget
about being self-conscious as they become caught up in the game. Hard-to-motivate students are suddenly
working, driven by the desire to win. The games index lets you see at a glance the type of game, level, prepa-
ration time and playing time etc. The games are coded by level, beginner to advanced. Each game comes
with straightforward instructions and has many reproducible templates and card sets. The games have an
instant appeal but the more they are played the better they work. The games are divided into five categories:

Big Things In Canada - Book 1
Readings, Exercises and 2 Audio CDs (over 100 tracks)
Donna Langevin & Thane Ladner
Canada has lots of BIG THINGS along its roadsides. For example, in Duncan BC you’ll find the world’s
largest hockey stick. It’s 62 metres long and it has a giant puck to go with it! In this book you and your
students will discover 7 BIG THINGS across Canada. In addition to the BIG THING reading, the authors have
provided 20+ pages of relevant, easy-to-use, and fun exercises in each unit. The lessons are geared toward
CLB Benchmarks and LINC themes. Each unit begins with a map, discussion and vocab preview. That is
followed by a reading about the big thing, a cloze, comprehension questions and true or false. Each unit
includes a music activity, a legend/story related to the unit topic and a drama exercise called Travellers’
Theatre. From here each unit develops different themes. In The Big Polar Bear unit there is a questionnaire
about animals, an exercise on animal similes, and a series of exercise on swimming. This unit ends with
seven pages about the Polar Bear Express. This book is fun while providing practical easy-to-use language
lessons. The units are:
In Duncan BC you’ll find the world’s largest hockey stick. Don’t try to pick it up, it weighs 28, 3338 kilos!
It’s 62 metres long! It comes with an enormous hockey puck.

In Yukon there is a huge historical monument. It’s bigger than a house; in fact it’s a whole city called
Dawson City. It’s the Gold Rush City!

Welcome to Drumheller, the Dinosaur Capital of North America and home to the world's largest
dinosaur sculpture. It is 25 metres tall and 46 metres long.

The town of Komarno, which means mosquito in Ukrainian, calls itself the Mosquito Capital of
Canada. In Komarno you will see a 4.6 meter statue of a giant mosquito.

In Cochrane, Ontario, a 10 metre long polar bear made from fibreglass greets visitors at the entrance to
the town. Her name “Chimo,” is an Inuit word that means “welcome” or “I am friendly.”

Up north in Nunavut there’s a big person standing in the centre of the town of Rankin Inlet. This person
is 5.3 metres tall, 4.25 metres wide, made of stone and is called an inuksuk.

In the town of Baie Comeau, Quebec, there’s a big sculpture of a canoe. It reminds us how important
the canoe is in Canadian history.

Some of the exercises include:

are 92 of the most common irregular verbs in their basic form. The remaining five
forms can be found by aligning the second wheel with the selected verb. It is much
easier to use than to explain. It shows the present, past and future; modal auxilia-
ries; present/past perfect and past conditional; present/past/future tense continuous
and present conditional; and present/past perfect continuous and present condi-
tional continuous.

Speaking & Conversation - Question Cards
Varied Levels
The Question Box Series
200 Question Cards for Conversation,
Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking in Each Box
Joe and Gail Crossman
The Question Box is a versatile tool for any ESL classroom. It consists of 200 questions with each question
on its own individual card and all 200 cards in a box. Each card is the size of a business card. At first glance
teachers think of conversation cards, and they would be right. Each student picks a card and then mingles
with the class and asks his/her question to individual students. In addition, The Question Box is easily
adapted for reading, writing, listening, and speaking. For example the teacher can ask a student to choose a
card and read it to the class. The class can either answer the question orally or write their answers. There
are many ways to use The Question Box. Helpful suggestions on how to adapt the Question Box are included
in each set.
