Young scientist discovers God.

Although Samuel from his earliest school years was al-

ways a pretty straight shooter - well behaved and studious
- it didn't count for that much as far as his spiritual life
was concerned.

Brought up in a Christian family he had a general intel-

lectual agreement with the Bible's basic teachings but had
no personal revelation as to its reality. For his faith to be
activated he needed evidence.

A chance invitation to a teaching on the science of crea-

tion left him gob-smacked. He could see it! Creation, the
Great Flood, and many more events became a stark real-
ity, based as they were on science. And because of that,
for Samuel, the rest of the Bible was therefore also au-
thentic. He could trust it.

Despite being confronted with the ubiquitous teachings

on the theory of evolution; even at one stage as a student -
from a teacher in a Christian school! - he had the evi-
dence he needed. This marinated whilst he pondered more
seriously on what it meant for him as a believer; and the
eventual result was a total commitment of his life to Jesus
Christ.
Not having just a passing interest in science Samuel went
on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Evolutionary
Biology majoring in palaeontology, and included studies
in geology and molecular evolution.
His quest for evidence, for facts, has continually affirmed
his faith over time and he now supports an organisation
that specialises in an objective approach to Bible truths. It
is called Creation Ministries International:

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Dear ABRA,
I am a long time Aldinga resident & but for my fly in fly
out work commitments I would be a member of ABRA as
I am sick of the crime in our area.
I am wondering if ABRA are aware of the reduced polic-
ing resources in our area? Last year while I was away my
shed was broken into & many things were stolen. My
wife made a report & police came around but I don't think
they found who did it.
Since then where we live near the Esplanade we've had
people jumping our fences at night time, terrifying my
wife & kids. It terrifies me too because I'm hundreds of
kilometres away when it is happening.
We have dealt often with 2 excellent local police officers,
Matt & Mark, who are part of the Neighbourhood police
based at Aldinga. Local cops with local knowledge who
drive past our place regularly which reassures my wife.
And they don't mind taking the time to chat with her or
coming out if something happens quickly just for that
reassurance & action if something is happening.
Earlier this year, we had a woman yelling & screaming
outside our house at 10pm at night. They came out &
knew who it was & went & dealt her which was great
work. Local cops with local knowledge looking after
locals.
Now these neighbourhood police are getting taken out of
our area & sent elsewhere. Talking to them they don't
think they're getting replaced here, & it didn't sound like
there was any good reason why it was happening.
Why are we tolerating police reducing services in our
area? And why aren't we getting informed about this? We
have enough crime & problems happening around here to
be deserving more police presence locally, not less. I
don't want more cops at Christies Beach, we need more
here, & more like the neighbourhood police who can be
local & act local from the local base.
I am wanting to make an issue of this myself, & I hope
ABRA does as well for the sake of our community.

 The Onkaparinga Seaside Walk
The Onkaparinga Seaside Walk will be
hosted by Rotary Club of Seaford on Sunday
10th September to raise awareness for
suicide prevention.
The walk is open to individual participants, families and
teams with all registered participants receiving a bag, free
bottle of water, a wrist band and a free sausage sizzle.
The walk will be followed by a Family Focussed Fun Day
and includes face painters, yoga, live music from local
talents, a sand sculpture competition, a guest speaker
from Beyond Blue and much more.

Why a Seaside Walk??
Because fresh air and good company can assist those ex-
periencing anxiety or depression. There’s plenty of evi-
dence to show that getting outside to stimulate the 5
senses can have a positive impact on your recovery from
anxiety or depression and suicidal thoughts.
Staying connected with friends and family and planning
activities together can help increase wellbeing and confi-
dence so get a group together for this event and network
with those facing the same issues.
The walk will highlight our fabulous southern coast line
and bring Suicide Awareness to the Southern Suburbs of
Adelaide.

“Mortgage Talk: The Value of
Genuine Savings”

I have previously written about having a deposit as an
element required to purchasing a property. This time, I’d
like to talk about Genuine Savings and how it may impact
your ability to obtain a home loan.
Apart from knowing that you have the deposit, lenders
may also require you to demonstrate how you acquired it,
especially if you are borrowing more than 80% of the
house price. They need to clarify how genuine your
savings is, as this is one way for lenders to measure your
repayment credibility.
Genuine savings is, basically, a record of your savings
history, built over time and consistently held for over
three months, showing the level of your commitment. It
doesn’t always have to be in a form of cash savings in a
bank account. It can be from sources as follows:
Equity in existing home;
Term deposits held over three months;
Non-refundable gifts and/or inheritance money that
has been kept in a savings or term deposit
account over three months;
Rental history with a licensed agent (over three
months);
Shares held over three months.
A minimum of 5% of the house price is normally
required to demonstrate genuine savings although some
lenders may require less.
Following funds may form part of your deposit but they
are considered as non-genuine savings:
First Home Owners Grant
Sale of an asset such as a car
Borrowed funds such as a personal loan
Lottery win
In the case of family guarantee, whereby you could
borrow up to 110% of the house price, you may be
exempt from the genuine savings requirement.
Lending policy in regards to genuine savings vary from
one lender to another. Evidence is normally required for

this component such as rental statement from licensed
agent, and bank statements.
Some lenders may not require evidence of genuine
savings unless you borrow above 90% of the house price.
If you do not have genuine savings, speak to a mortgage
broker. We can help you find the right lender and
product, or work with you in building your deposit.

shearer and various musicians throughout the day.
Main stage performances include Dance SA demonstra-
tion and performances. Enjoy the amusements and tradi-
tional showground rides. There will be shearing demon-
strations with John Hutchinson during the course of the
day, SA Working Draught Horses demos, camel &
pony rides, animal nursery, Antique Farm machinery dis-
play, Hacks & Pony Club encourage ring on the oval.
Check out the market stalls and traders, the new local pro-
ducers gourmet market area located near the Smiling
Samoyed Brewery and Allusion Winery.
The Yankalilla Show Trail has been reinstated, starts at
the Show Bag shed with ten stops around the grounds to
collect goodies. Visit the main hall showcasing the com-
petitive exhibits, art pavilion, photography now housed in
our new shed, show bags, and plenty of food and lots
more.....
Gates open at 9am for the public cost is $10 adult, $5
children between 5 and 15, children under 5 free. Aged
concession only.
Now is the time to be thinking about your entries for this
years show, only a few weeks to go!
The show hall will be open all week prior to the show
between 9am – 4pm, we can give you any information
you need or help with your entries.

way, set up, working bee Sun 24th Sept, office help, show
day, clean up day please feel free to contact us or drop
into the hall that week and offer your services we can al-
ways use the help.

Since our last visit, the recycling facility has
been built with the purpose of reducing the
impact of waste going to landfill. At this stage
they are recovering approximately 30% diver-
sion from landfill based on the recovery proc-
esses in place in the new building. The facility
specifically works on the kerbside municipal
waste and the recovered fraction is organic
waste. This fraction is then further processed
and treated through a bio-remediation process
and the end material is recovered as a capping
medium for use in the construction of the land-
fill cell. There are a number of areas they are
working on that will increase the recovery
yield moving forward. Mark Hindmarsh is
happy to discuss this further on the day of the
visit. We will take a bus from the WEC as this
way we can see more. As an interesting fact,
the Authority were able to use over 170,000
tonnes of waste aggregates in the construction
of the new facility!

The SA Country Fire Service, in conjunction
with the Willunga Environmental Centre will
be running a free half-day, Bushfire Survival
Plan workshop at the Willunga Environmental
Centre on Sunday the 24th September from 11
– 4pm, with lunch provided.

Studio 20 Youth Centre is returning to its expanded
and refurbished home at shop 20 in the Aldinga Shop-
ping Centre soon!
Our October school holiday program is jam packed
with Art,
Circus fun, Nature walks and Reptiles!
Term 4 will see our revitalised Youth Centre busy with
Art, Cooking, Sewing and Craft, and a range of Youth
Leadership programs.
There’s also a rumour that there’ll be a Launch event
following our return!
Our newly renovated Youth Centre has multiple
Korean students tour Willunga High.
This month Willunga High welcomed our first ever study tour
from Korea and what a great experience it has been!
The Cheongju study tour came in on the 1st of August and left on
the 19th. They were a fabulous group and so much fun to have
with us. Seven students buddied up with our year 8 students at
Willunga High School and seven with our buddies at Willunga
Primary School, their first one!
This tour has been a great success, and our students have benefit-
ted immensely. I would go so far as to say totally embraced the
whole cultural experience. As well as the whole school experi-
ence, we had excursions to Adelaide Zoo, Adelaide Museum and
Rundle mall and Urimbirra Wildlife Park and a tour of the Whale
watch centre in Victor Harbor.
Despite the wintery weather, a good time was had by all. We are
really very proud of the way our students conducted themselves as
hosts during this time. Our students were attentive, kind, caring

lots of fun. They are really getting the hang of these International
experiences, which is still relatively new to our schools. It just
proves what a great advantage having visitors from other places is.
ZONTA CLUB OF NOARLUNGA SOUTHERN VALES INC
DONATIONS FOR WINTER APPEAL
The Zonta Club of Noarlunga Southern Vales Inc re-
cently delivered donations to Amanda Rishworth’s of-
fice for her Annual Winter Appeal for 2017.
These donations will be given to local charities to help
those who are struggling over the colder months.
The Zonta club donated packed bags of toiletries
which included: hair brushes, tooth brushes and tooth-
paste, deodorant, soap, body wash, hair shampoo and
conditioner and
body lotion.
We also delivered
lovely knitted rugs
and lots of gor-
geous baby wear
and blankets plus
beanies and
scarves made by
members of The
Aldinga Knitters and Hookers for Charity group.
This wonderful group of local women meet every
Tuesday morning in the Aldinga library and donate
their time and skill to make goods etc to donate to
people in need. If you would like to join them every-
one is welcome and they are happy to teach you to
knit or crochet. They are always looking for wool so
they can make more blankets and garments so if you
can be of assistance please contact Katrina Stropin
