The Supplementary Distance Education Programme

(E-Learning) of the Center of Continuing Education
and Lifelong Learning of the National and Kapodistrian
University of Athens has been operating successfully
since 2001, and provides asynchronous educational
training programmes that combine theoretical and
practical knowledge.

Drawing on the expertise of senior academics and

experts, University of Athens offers e-learning
programmes in a variety of fields. Over the last 16 years,
the E-Learning Programme of the National and
Kapodistrian University of Athens has trained more than
45.000 people in Greek language.

Successful completion leads to a Certificate of
Training or a Certificate of Specialized Training.

The Academic Supervisors of the programmes are

faculty members of the National and Kapodistrian University
of Athens, and they are responsible for the plan-
ning, implementation and monitoring of the pro-
grammes' academic process.

The LMS Moodle supports the learning process. Moodle is
a widely used learning platform designed to provide edu-
cators, administrators and learners with a single robust
and secure system that creates a personalised learning
environment.

The educational material for each program is being grad-

ually disposed, per teaching unit, through the electronic
classrooms.

During the programme, full personal educational support

METHODOLOGY
is provided as the trainee can address any questions to
his appointed tutor through an online communication
system. Courses with community educational support are
also available offering an engaging learning environment.

Ultimate aim of our programmes is the meeting of the de-
tected educational needs and the provision of complemen-
tary necessary qualifications in people that wish to amplify
their knowledge and gain new professional skills, thus im-
proving their cognitive level and reinforcing their com-
petitiveness within the market. However, our programmes
in Arts and Culture offer a fascinating journey on different
aspects of Ancient Greek and Mediterranean culture, pro-
viding an in depth understanding of what is generally be-
lieved to be the roots of Western civilization.
