Forensic Morgue Assistant

Education and/or Training Required:

 High School diploma or GED, Associate Degree in medical laboratory (optional), Technical School
Training in Mortuary Science (optional), one year in positions related to medical or health fields

New England

Responsibilities and Daily Activities:

 Maintain data bases and records (computer knowledge)


 Adhere to sterile work environments
 Assist medical examiners during autopsy
 Perform general mortician duties
 Aid coroners in post-mortem detective work
 Provide evidence for law enforcement agencies
 Transport bodies
 Open body cavitites
 Lift bodies for transportation
 Assist in a search for missing body parts
 Suture incisions and prepare bodies for release
 Complete patient paperwork

$26,406 and $51,845
 The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects a 27% increase of job outlook between 2014 and 2020

I would not like to pursue this job because I wouldn’t want to work with dead bodies. This job is not
suited for me but maybe people who like solving problems or cases.
