INSTRUCTION 2 – TWO

JOURNAL 3

AUTHOR – Everton Drohomeretski and Sergio Gouvea da Costa and Edson Pinheiro de Lima

ARTICLE - Green supply chain management (Drivers, barriers and practices within the
Brazilian automotive industry)

YEAR – 2014

FRAMEWORK -

To structure the development of the research protocol (Appendix) and the data collection
process a conceptual framework was created (Figure 2) based on the previous section, especially
with the support of studies by Beske et al. (2008), Gold et al. (2010), Hervani et al. (2005), Holt
and Ghobadian (2009), Koplin et al. (2007), Sarkis (2001), Sarkis, (2003), Seuring and Muller
(2008), Zhu et al. (2007), Carvalho et al. (2011) and Xu et al. (2013).

The framework presents GSCM relationships in the focal company, upstream and downstream in
the supply chain. The literature review was divided as follows: motivators, barriers, supply
process, internal, external and reverse logistics processes, production and product development.
VARIABLE/ITEM/MEASUREMENT –

The measurement for this journal is about three main categories: economic which include the
efficiency, cost, and environment cost in it. Operational which include customer satisfaction and
quality in it. And lastly, environmental which include waste of the business in it.

Environmentally sound technologies and collaborating with suppliers to share knowledge and
jointly develop more sustainable products and processes. They further point out that while the
adoption of environmental practices in the supply chain generates long-term cost reductions,
many of these actions require investments in technology, process innovation and equipment,
which in the short term have the impact of increasing costs (Simpson et al., 2007). Thus, the
authors report that these initial costs are seen by the suppliers as a barrier to implementing
GSCM practices. However, with the effective participation of automakers in the process of
implementing GSCM throughout the supply chain with actions such as the transfer of technology
and innovations, the installation of new equipment, training of suppliers, allocating employees at
the plants of suppliers, among others, it is possible to generate significant gains in environmental
efficiency.

FRAMEWORK –

The framework complements earlier GSCM case-based empirical research by taking a more
holistic approach to a firm pursuing the GSCM strategy and leads to a conceptual alternative in
the form of a structural model. Causal relationships have been formulated through both existing
empirical findings and by identifying theoretical propositions. These have been presented in the
form of hypotheses.
VARIABLE/ITEM/MEASUREMENT –

The association between Intra-OEPs and performance measures, suggests that by adopting
proactive Intra-OEPs, such as environmental management systems (EMS) and pollution
prevention technologies, would create tacit knowledge and efficient management routines that
are causally ambiguous to its competitors and would improve an organization’s performance
measures. This points towards the following hypotheses: that Intra-OEPs in the form of causally
ambiguous resources have a direct and positive impact on the organization’s:

1) Operational performance.

2) Environmental performance.

3) Financial performance.
