What have you learned from your audience feedback?

When creating our music video one of the key factor to its success would understand the
flaws of certain aspects of our video through an alternate perspective, more specifically the
common consumer of music of the female indie rock genre.
After looking through our footage we decided to make a self-feedback video of what we
considered needed fixing. We decided that certain bits of our cinematography needed
working on, such as more close up shots of our artists specifically with the lyrics “just go
f*** yourself” as well as recording certain segments to make our video more complete. We
also needed to ensure that our editing was synchronized to the song thus with the
aforementioned “just go f*** yourself” with each syllable cutting to a close up of the band.
Using Survey monkey was another very useful tool for feedback as it was a website that
allowed me to create online surveys and send them our to any peers via email, which would
be much more quicker then physically creating a survey on paper. Survey monkey also tracks
the choices of the surveys in a statistics bar chart granting us an accurate and swift
assessment to what would be most favourable in the success of our project, such as how we
found out which of our contestants from our auditions would be most effective as the lead
singer, with contestant 1 receiving 75% of answer choices and contestant 2 receiving 25%.
When receiving feedback for my ancillary texts such as my digipak and my advert I was told
that in terms of representing female rebellion that my top left and top middle panels
emphasised this clearly through how the symbol of feminism shows suggestive hand
gestures. For my advert, I was told that the consistency of how the artists directly looking
towards the viewer was an effective decision to my advert as if gave a direct mode of
address to the viewer thus conveying emotion to them, thus feeling more alive.
Finally after finishing our second draft of our video we went to receive feedback from a peer
on what she thought of video in terms of editing and how we have constructed it. One of the
criticisms that we received was how our use of a four way split screen within the lyric “just
go f*** yourself” appeared visually disjointed to the rest our video and that it had no
necessary meaning behind it. In addition to unnecessary features of our video was our
opening handheld shot of a woman’s legs walking; we were told that this did not fit with any
of our scenes in the video in terms of proper continuity. We were also told during the guitar
solo were we have the female act aggressively to the male that there should be more scenes
within this segment however we did not have many scenes recorded to add more which we
done later on, erase any of the unnecessary editing and scenes in our video.
To finalise my feedback through my ancillary texts from my peers, partners and myself have
helped establish what I needed to work on to ensure that my A2 work (such as my digipak
and advert) was up to standards as well as what we needed to do in order smooth out any
scratches within our music video.
