Noise Pollution’s Effects to the Students of NMSCST
Senior High School

Abstract-This study tackled about the possible
effects of the noise pollution to the learning
process of the students. The study will let the
respondents to evaluate certain percent that
would corresponds on their idea. The process of
the study was made by getting the mean of the
answers from the respondents. To illustrate
further, the researchers were using different
types of graph shown in the results and
discussion. The graphs were made through
running the data in the XLSTAT software. The
results showed that most of the students that
experienced studying in the noisy environment
felt harder to catch up the topic of teacher.
Besides, according to their answers from our
questions, 54% answered that their studying
was really destructed. 43% answered that they
are too much distracted and only 3 % answered
that they were not distracted.

harmful or annoying to the people who hear it.

I. Introduction
The construction of some buildings and the
widening of roads in Northwestern Mindanao State
College of Science and Technology (NMSCST)
have really a contribution to the noise problem in
the campus. Some noises are contributed by some
machines and equipment like backhoe, bulldozer,
drilling, and many more. This equipment produces
loud and distractive noise. Because of this, the
teacher will feel harder to illustrate his/her topic.
Most of the students would feel uncomfortable and
uneasy during class hours because of the noise
pollution.
“Noise pollution leads to the lack of
concentration of people as a result, they will spend
longer time for completing the work than that which
would be done in a quiet environment. In addition,
they feel more tired in the noisy area.” (Rohit Patel
and Govind Panday, 2017)
For the improvements of our campus, we
really need it to accept on it. Constructing of
buildings in our campus are really necessary.
Besides, it is really expected that on the next school
year there will be an extreme number of students
that will enroll in this school. So, the construction
of buildings for classrooms must be continued.
Constructors might spend longer time for working
on it.
Due to this, the researchers are conducting
a research to know if how this noise affects to the
study of the students.
II. Methodology
The data
The researchers focused on knowing if the
noise contributed by constructing buildings and
road works affects the learning process of the
students. The respondents must indicate certain
percent based on their idea on the following
attribute in the questionnaire written. The
researchers were collecting data from 28
respondents of NMSCST grade 11 senior high
school. The data was gathered through conducting
a convenience method of study.
Construction of Questionnaire
The questions in the questionnaire were
chosen based on the attributes that corresponds on
the effects of the noise to the students. In part 1, the
questions should be answered in terms of YES and
NO which is composed of 6 questions.

In part 2, the response must indicate a certain
percent that corresponds based on their opinion and
idea in the study. In number 4 they have to choose
if how did the noise affect their study.
In computing the data, we are using simple
computation. In every question we are getting a
certain average of the data presented by the entire
respondents. The presence of calculator helps us to
compute the data.
III. Results and Discussion
The study was participated by 28
respondents on NMSCST Senior High School. In
question number one, it asked if the respondents
experienced studying in the noisy environment. All
of them answered YES. All of them experienced
studying in a noisy environment.
Figure 1 below shows the number of
students who experience studying in a noisy
environment. The researchers have noticed that out
of 28 respondents, 24 of them answered YES. Four
of them answered NO, so they do not appreciate the
noise in the campus.

Figure 2 is a bar graph of the answers of
question number two in Part 1 of the questionnaire.
The question is about the comfortability of the
students to learn in the noisy kind of classroom or
environment. Whether it is easy for them or not.
The answers from the respondents are composed of
26 No and 2 Yes. Therefore, 92.6% of the
respondents answered that they were not
comfortable and it is hard for them to learn in the
noisy environment or classroom. The remaining
7.4% of the respondents said that they were still
comfortable and it is still easy for them to learn
from noisy environment.

Figure 3 is a bar graph in question number
three. 27 of the respondents answered No stating
that their teacher does not feel easy on discussing
his/her topic when the environment is so noisy.
Only one of them answered Yes. In the question
“Did you understand the whole topic of the teacher,
given that the whole environment is so noisy?” in
number four, all of them answered No. The
respondents do not understand the whole topic
discussed by their teacher if the whole environment
is too noisy.

In number 4 question, all of the respondents
answered NO. The question asked if it is easy for
them to understand the whole topic of the teacher
when the environment is so noisy. It is really hard
for them to understand from this kind of
environment. In connection to number five, all of
them answered No. The question asked if their
grades probably increase from this kind of
environment.
In Part Two of the questionnaire, the
respondents must indicate a certain percentage in
each question that would correspond on their idea
and perspectives. In number 1, the mean of the
number the question is connected to number 1
question in Part One. The percentage shows that
there is a big contribution of noise in their school
due to the construction of buildings and road works.
71.3% is the overall percentage according to the
respondents’ answers on the question “About how
many percent does this noise pollution distract your
studies?”. This shows that their study is really
affected by the noise pollution produced by the on-
going construction of the buildings and roads.
As shown in Figure 5, 53% of the
respondents answered that they are distracted, 43%
answered that they are too much distracted and 4%
answered that they are not distracted.

IV. Conclusion
This study is very important in order to
know if the noise pollution affects the learning
process of the students. The study is composed of [3] Sagar Pashupatihal, Sneha R, Sumanth K
28 respondents. 24 of them appreciated the Prediction of noise levels using FHWA

because of the noise. Even if there were still the
presence noise, there were still two respondents that
were comfortable on their study. 27 of the
respondents answered No stating that their teacher
does not feel easy on discussing his/her topic when
the environment is so noisy. Only one of them
answered Yes. The researched concluded that it is
really hard for the students to understand when the
environment is so noisy. Besides, all of the
respondents think that their grades probably
decrease if the environment is so noisy. According
to their answers from our questions, 54% answered
that their studying was really destructed. 43%
answered that they are too much destructed and
only 3 % answered that they were not destructed.
Most of the students think that their grades probably
decrease if the environment is so noisy. According
to them, the noise will always there, their grades
would probably decrease for almost 39%.
