Practical-20
AIM: Remote installation services using group policy.
 Group Policy is a feature of the Microsoft family of operating systems that
controls the working environment of user accounts and computer accounts.
 Group Policy provides the centralized management and configuration of
operating systems, applications, and users' settings in an Active Directory
environment.
 Group Policy is an infrastructure that allows you to implement specific
configurations for users and computers.
 Group Policy settings are contained in Group Policy objects (GPOs), which
are linked to the following Active directory service containers: sites,
domains, or organizational units (OUs).

GPMC

 Group Policy Management Console (GPMC) is a comprehensive


administrative tool for Group Policy management. Administrators use GPMC
to perform all Group Policy management tasks, with the exception of
configuring individual policy settings in Group Policy Objects themselves,
which is done with the Local Group Policy Object Editor.
 You can install GPMC through Server Manager on the server as follows.
1. On the Start screen, click the Apps arrow. On the Apps screen, type
Server Manager. Click Server Manager.
2. In the main pane in Server Manager, click Add roles and features.
3. Follow the Add Roles and Features Wizard until you get to
the Features menu.
4. Select Group Policy Management from the list of available features.
Click Install and follow the steps in the wizard.

How to apply “Desktop Wallpaper” using Group Policy setting


1. Run Active Directory Users and Computers
2. in left pane right click on the name of your domain and choose
"Properties" Click Group Policy Tab
3. Select Default Domain Policy and click Edit button.
4. In left pane go to User Configuration > Administrative Templates >
Control Panel > Display

5. In right pane enable the option "Disable changing wallpaper". It will


prevent users from changing wallpapers.
6. in left pane go to User Configuration > Administrative Templates >
Desktop > Active Desktop
7. In right pane you will be able set wallpaper name (option "Active
Desktop Wallpaper") or prevent using Active Desktop wallpapers
(option "Allow only bitmapped wallpapers").
