Otis X and R Running Tools are used to set
Otis X , XN , R , RN and RQ Lock Mandrels
in their respective Otis Landing Nipples. These
tools are similar in design to nipple locator
dogs, serving to locate the proper landing
nipple and positioning the lock mandrel before
locating and locking. By selecting the position
of the running tool, the lock mandrel keys may
be placed in the locating or retracted position.

Otis RXN Running Tools

Otis RXN Running Tools set Otis X, XN, R,
RN, RPTTM and RQ Lock Mandrels in their
respective landing nipples.

This tool is generally used for installing tubing

safety valves in the uppermost landing nipple.
With this tool, the lock mandrel may be run
with the keys in the control or locating positions.
The lock mandrel keys or no-go serve to locate
the nipple rather than the dogs on the running
tool. When a non no-go lock is being run, the
keys must be run in the locating position and
the lock must be set in the first nipple in the
bore of that lock size. The tool gives a positive
indication when the lock is fully set.

Otis Pulling Tools - Internal Fish Necks

Otis GS Pulling Tools are used during
wireline operations to unlock and pull
a variety of subservice controls with
internal fishing necks, such as the Otis
G Packoff Assembly. Designed to
shear with a downward jarring action,
this pulling tool is used where excessive
upward jarring is neccesary to retrieve
subsurface controls. In the running
position, the dogs are designed to seat
and lock in the internal recess of the
mandrel being run until a pin is sheared
by downward jarring. With this tool
being a shear-down-to-release, it can
be used in many cases as a running
tool.

Otis GR Pulling Tools are used during

wireline operations to unlock and pull
a variety of subservice controls with
G.U. internal fishing necks, including Otis
D Bridge Plugs, Otis X and R Lock
Mandrels, Otis D Mandrels and Otis D
Collar Stops.
Designed to shear with an upward
jarring action, this pulling tool is used
during routine wireline operations on
controls when shear-down is not
possible.
The Otis GR Pulling Tool is assembled
by incorporating an Otis GS Pulling Tool
with an Otis GU Shear-up Adaptor.

necessary and use line pull to cause the dogs
to securely engage the fishing neck, reducing
the possibility of the dogs slipping off the
bottomhole control.

The Otis R Pulling Tool can be modified as

follows :-

Otis RB Pulling Tool (R Body with B Core)

pulls Otis B, C & W Lock Mandrel Assemblies
and mandrel assemblies with full relative
motion.

Otis S Pulling Tools

Otis S Pulling Tools are designed for jobs in
which extensive upward jarring is required to
pull a bottomhole control. This tool is designed
to pull any subsurface equipment with an
external fishing neck. The core is
manufactured in various lengths and may be
changed in the field to accommodate the fishing
necks of various controls. The tool is designed
to shear and release by downward jarring.
With this feature, the tool may also be used
as a running tool to run collar stops, pack-off
anchor stops and various other Halliburton
tools.

NOTE: When used as a running tool, the

core must be long enough to allow for upward
travel after shearing the pin before the skirt is
stopped by the equipment being run. It is
this action that permits complete release of
the running tool.

Otis UO Pulling Tool

Otis UO Pulling Tools are designed to run and retrieve wireline set de-
vices with external fish necks. It can be run in the shear-up mode to
release or shear-down to release mode. The core can be adjusted to
three different lengths and can be manually released using a screwdriver.
It is run and retrieved by standard wireline methods.

OPERATING PRINCIPLE
The lower core extension has been provided with three sets of retainer
pin slots. These slots, when aligned to receive the retaining pin,
automatically adjust the reach of the pulling tool to match an existing Otis
pulling tool. Therefore, prongs can be made up or broken out without the
core rotating.

The mode of the pulling tool can be determined by sight, without

removing the top sub assembly. If the pulling tools dogs remain in their
engaging position, when the fish neck is in the down position, then the
pulling tool is in the jar-up to release mode. If the dogs remain in their
engaging position, when the fish neck is in the up position, then the
pulling tool is in the jar-down mode to release mode. The pulling tool
remains in the released position if upper part of tool is placed in the wrong
mode. The upper end of the dog collet covers the retaining pin which
must be removed to make a core length change. Rotating the lower core
extension to the right increases the reach and to the left decreases the
reach.

SHEAR-DOWN TO RELEASE MODE

When placed in the shear-down to release mode, the lugs are placed in
the lower lug slots and the fish neck and upper core extension are pinned
in the extended or up position. A load can now be applied on either the
cylinder or core to release the pulling tool. The pulling tool can release by
downward jarring only. With this feature, the UO Pulling Tool may also be
used as a running tool.

SHEAR-DOWN TO RELEASE MODE

When placed in the shear-up to release mode, the lugs are placed in the
upper lug slots and the fish neck and upper core extension are pinned in
the down position. A load can now be applied on either the cylinder or the
core to release the pulling tool. The pulling tool can release by upward
jarring only, downward jarring will not affect the shear pin.

Otis BO Positioning Tool

Otis BO Positioning Tools are used to move
the inner sleeve to its open or closed position
in Sliding Side-Door Circulating Devices.

Note: The Otis B Positioning Tool is not to be

used for Otis XXO or RRO Surface Controlled
Safety Valve Nipples. For these nipples, use
the Otis XL or RL Shifting Tool.

The positioning tool engages the recess in

the upper (or lower) end of the inner sleeve
to permit the sleeve to be shifted by a jarring
action. The tool is designed to release itself
only after the sleeve reaches its fully open or
closed position. This automatic-releasing
feature incorporates a releasing profile on the
key itself that acts to compress the key spring
and release the positioning tool. A shear pin
is an added feature designed to release the
tool in the event of well conditions making it
impossible to shift the sleeve.

A set of positive keys is available for this tool

to permit upward movement of the inner sleeve
of one among several Sliding Side-Door
Circulating Devices in one well bore. These
keys do not have a releasing profile. The
positioning tool pin must be sheared to release.

Note: The Otis BO Positioning Tool will not

pass through position number 1 of Otis S
Landing Nipples.

Otis W Running Tools set Otis C, B and W Slip Type Mandrels in tubing. This tool consists of a
prong weldment with prong, housing and collet. The collet is designed to seat in an internal recess in the
running neck of an Otis C Mandrel and is locked in position by the prong. A shear pin serves to hold the
collet in the running position.
When the desired setting depth is reached, the tools are picked up to set the slips and expand the rubber
element on the lower part of the Slip Type Mandrel. Upward jarring is used to secure the Slip Type Mandrel
in a locked position and expand the packoff element. Once set, the pin may be sheared in the running tool
and the prong withdrawn from behind the collet, allowing the running tool to release from the mandrel.
Part No Prefix : 41 WO

Otis RX Running Tools set Types X, XN, R, RN and RQ Otis Locking Mandrels in the top Type X,
XN, R, RN and RQ Otis Landing Nipples. This tool is generally used for installing tubing safety valves in the
uppermost landing nipple. With this tool, the lock mandrel may be run with the keys in the control or
locating positions. The lock mandrel keys are a no-go serve to locate the nipple rather than the dogs on the
running tool. When a non-no-go lock is being run, the keys must be run in the locating position and the lock
must be set in the first nipple in the bore of that lock size. The position of a snap ring in the tool gives a
positive indication when the lock is fully set.
Part No Prefix : 41 RX

The Otis B Pulling Tool has exposed dogs (without skirt) that are frequently useful in extremely
sandy or trashy wells. Being exposed, the dogs can move down over the fishing neck of the mandrel more
easily.

Two models are available :-

Otis BB Pulling Tools are used to pull Otis B, C & W Slip Type Mandrels and mandrels with full
relative motion, such as Otis F & J Mandrels.
Part No Prefix : 40 BB

Otis BE Pulling Tools are used to pull all assemblies that do not have full relative motion, such as
the Otis G and old-style F Lock Mandrels.
Part No Prefix : 40 BE

The Otis SSJ Pulling Tool is a double shear-down tool designed primarily to install and retrieve
the Otis X, S & N Test Tools by standard wireline methods. This pulling tools is designed with a long reach
so that the drop valve is permitted to float off-seat during installation. The double shear-down adaptor
allows the pulling tool shear pin to be sheared by jar down action against either the cylinder or the core.
When used with a test tool, the pulling tool can be sheared off the test took by jar down action without
possible damage to the drop valve and seat. the downward force is transmitted across the pulling tool
cylinder and onto the test tool cage.
Part No Prefix : 41 SSJ

The Otis GRL Pulling Tool has a long core for retrieving equipment such as the Type D collar
lock mandrel.
Part No Prefix : 40 GRL
