SECTION M.01 AIRCONDITIONING & VENTILATION

M.01.29 ECOLOGICAL UNITS

1.1 SCOPE

The scope of this section comprises the supply, installation, testing and commissioning
of Ecology unit conforming to these Specifications and in accordance with the
requirement of Drawings and Schedule of Quantities. Below specification will be valid
where proper grease trap device is attached to the kitchen hood. Unit should be
capable for conveying air with maximum temperature up to 80°C in continuous
operation.

1.2 CAPACITY

The air-moving capacity of Ecology Units shall be as shown on Drawings and in

Schedule of Quantities.

1.3 ECOLOGY UNITS

1.3.1 FILTERATION SECTION:

First Stage of filtration system, which includes:

Stage1: Polyfiber Pleated Filter comprising the following standards

1. EN 779 : G4
2. Arrestance (ASHRAE 52.1) : 90-94%
3. MERV Rating (ASHRAE 52.2) : MERV7
4. Eurovent : EU4
5. Dust Spot Efficiency (ASHRAE 52.1) : 30-35%
6. Size of filter to suit the design requirement

Stage2: Synthetic Bag Filter comprising the following standards

1. EN 779 : F9
2. Arrestance (ASHRAE 52.1) : 95%
3. MERV Rating (ASHRAE 52.2) : MERV15
4. Eurovent : EU9
5. Dust Spot Efficiency (ASHRAE 52.1) : 95%
6. Size of filter to suit the design requirement

Stage3: Electrostatic Precipitation.

Air is drawn by the blower through a washable metal mesh pre-filter & Bag Filter
which traps large dust particles. The remaining particles, some as small as 0.01
microns, pass into a strong electrical field (ionizing section) where the particulate
receives an electrical charge. The charged particles then pass into a collector plate
section made up of a series of equally spaced parallel plates. Each alternate plate is
charged with the same polarity as the particles, which repel, while the interleaving
plates are grounded, which attract and collect. Should have following features:-

SECTION M.01 AIRCONDITIONING & VENTILATION

• Solid State Power Supply

• Spiked Ionizing Blades
• Extra Depth Collector Cells
• Electrical Component Box Mounted out of Air Stream
• Self Glazing Ceramic Insulators: Out of Airstream; Impervious to Liquids; Provide
Operational Longevity and Power Supply Life; Easy to Clean
• Spiked Ionizer: No Ionizing Wires to Replace, Reducing Maintenance and
Replacement Cost
• High Efficiency: Up to 95% on Single Pass.
• Permanent Ionizer/Collector Elements: No Filter Replacement Cost; Just Wash, Dry
and Reinstall
• Low Pressure Drop: Lower Energy Cost to Operate Compared to Media and
Cartridge Units

Second Stage of filtration system, which includes:

Durable non-woven polyester base media, impregnated with activated carbon.

The unique combination of high quality activated carbon and polyester affords
orour and particulate trapping efficiency while maintaining excellent airflow
properties.

1.3.2 FAN SECTION:

Fans, backward curved, DIDW, shall be licensed to bear the AMCA Air and Sound
Certified Ratings Seal. The test standard used shall be ANSI/AMCA 210-85,
ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 51-1985 “Laboratory Method of Testing Fans for Rating”
and AMCA 300 “Reverberant Room Method for Sound Testing of fans”.
All fans shall be dynamically trim-balanced to ISO1940 and AMCA 204/3 - G2.5
quality grade after assembly.
Fan outlet velocity shall not exceed 10 m/s and maximum fan speed shall be 1450 rpm
for fan up to 450 mm dia. For fans above 450 mm dia the outlet velocity shall be
within 11.5 m/sec. and maximum fan speed shall not close to critical speed.

1.3.3 HOUSING:

Fans housing shall be of an appropriate thickness to prevent vibration and drumming.

The fan scroll shall be attached to the side plate by means of continuous lock seam or
intermittent spot welding. The wheel and inlet cone shall be aerodynamically designed
and constructed to provide maximum performance and efficiency as published by the
manufacturer.

Fans must be physically capable of operating safely at every point of rating at or below
the “minimum performance” limit for that class as defined in AMCA standard 99-2408-
69 “Performance Class of Operating Limits for Centrifugal Fans”.

1.3.4 FAN WHEEL:

All Ventilation Fan wheel shall be backward curved inclined non-over loading type. Fan
wheel and housing shall be statically and dynamically balanced to G2.5 quality grade.

1.3.5 SHAFT:

Shafts shall be made of carbon steel (C40) machined and polished to tolerance of
standard ISO 286-2 - grade g6. Protective coat of anti-rusting shall be applied to all
bare surfaces of the shafts at the factory.
Shafts sizes shall be carefully calculated and designed such that the maximum
operating speed (RPM) shall not exceed 75% of the first critical speed. For any
application that is not a standard product from catalogue of the fan manufacturer
detailed calculation of critical speed characteristic shall be submitted for approval.

1.3.6 BEARINGS:

Bearings shall be of self-alignment (concentric) type with adaptor sleeve bearing.

Bearings of eccentric locking collar with grub screw type are not acceptable. Bearing
shall be maintenance free with permanently lubricated sealed ball bearing type. Bearing
life shall be at least 75,000 hours based on basic rating life, L10 of ISO 281 standard.

1.3.7 MOTORS:

Fan motor shall be suitable for 415  10% volts, 50 cycle 3 phase power supply,
squirrel cage, TEFC motor, provided with class F insulation, and of approved make.
Motor nameplate horsepower shall exceed brake horsepower by a minimum of 10%.
Motor shall be designed especially for quiet operation. The fan and motor combination
selected for the particular required performance, shall be of the most efficient (smallest
horse power), so that noise level and power consumption are lowest.

1.3.8 DRIVE:

Drive to fan shall be provided through belt with adjustable motor. Belt shall be of the
oil resistant type.
Belts and pulleys shall be sized for a minimum 150% of the installed motor
horsepower. The belt speed shall not exceed 30m/s. The pulley shall be of Taper Lock
