Reflection on a Lesson Plan Taught

Intern Name: Abby Frey
Lesson Title (Subecjt/Topc): Suffixes
Date of Lesson Taught: March 28th, 2018
Cooperating Teacher & School: John B. Dey Elementary, Mrs. Dudley
Grade: 2
Time of Day: 12:00

1. What steps did you go through to create this lesson? With whom did you talk, discuss, or edit your lesson?
Mrs. Dudley asked me to create a quick and brief lesson on suffixes to teach the class. I came up with the idea
myself and then ran it my Mrs. Dudley for approval.

2. How did the SOLs and Objectives help focus your instruction?
They explained what is important for me to focus on and helped me keep my lesson on task.

3. What parts of the instructional plan worked as you anticipated?

Everything worked as I anticipated and Mrs. Dudley even hung my poster and the students’ brainstorms up in
the classroom!

4. What, if any, adjustments needed to be made once you began?

I don’t think I needed to make any adjustments.

5. How well did you anticipate the materials needed?

I anticipated them well, I had enough papers and suffixes to put the kids into groups of 4 or 5.

6. How effective was the assessment you chose to use? (If no assessment was used, what will the future
assessment be and how will you gauge its effectiveness?)
In the future I would create a worksheet that had the students identify the root word and suffix or prefix for the
words provided. If the students could correctly identify words that have a prefix vs a suffix, then I’d know that
the students understand the difference.

7. To what degree do you feel that this lesson was a success? What evidence do you have for the success of
the lesson? (Hint: Student learning is the key to a lesson’s success!)
My lesson was a success because the students were able to come up with an abundance of words that
contained their assigned suffix and they understood how suffixes function.

8. How did the time spent preparing for your lesson contribute to it’s success?
I spent a lot of time on my poster and I tried to make it fun and colorful to attract their attention. I believe my
time spent on that poster helped engage the students leading to its success.

9. If you could do this lesson again with the same students, would you do anything differently? If so, what?
I wouldn’t do anything differently.

10. Any last comments/reflections about your lesson?

no
