PLANNING OVERVIEW – TERM
Year Level Unit Title Salvation Topic Aspect of Human Development
Year 3 Christian Conscience Penance Conscience

Overview – explanation of the content of the unit and how it explores the Salvation Topic and development of the Human Person

The Unit begins with the wondering of human experience of conscience through God. God has the power to stir up certain thoughts and feelings to help
guide people in doing what is good, loving and faithful living in the way God intended. This Unit will guide students to wonder in God the creator of
conscience and to help them understand through learning and discovering God through Conscience that God does indeed love all people. The students will
wonder what conscience is, why we have a conscience and the difference between right and wrong. Students will go through a series of activities that will
provide knowledge of how we feel when we do good and how we feel when we have done bad. Also to learn that God forgives everyone as long as we way
sorry for our wrong doings.
The unit will then follow on with Jesus and how he showed us how to live in the way of God through following his own conscience through his thoughts and
feelings.
Many human experiences come from human conscience. This unit will help students understand that God communicates through affective as well as
though the intellect.
The second theme of this unit is introducing the sacrament of First Reconciliation to students, this will show the steps and elements in the First and Second
Rites of the sacrament. Students will learn that there is deliberate or wilful sin as well as accidental sin, they will learn to be able to distinguish between the
two.

PLANNED RITUAL – Primary (Year 3,4 and 6) Sacramental Celebration
Entrance Hymn
Here I am lord -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uk2CHhjlFj4&list=PL34IeciJcDt6hRx0WY1himK-42OE_oXhx
Opening Prayer:
All: We pray Lord, that we may know ourselves and open ourselves honestly to you. We ask you for the courage to face what is not good in ourselves and the
honesty to accept the gift of your forgiveness. Be with us Lord in the Spirit of reconciliation and in the forgiveness of Jesus, our Son, who died and rose from
death for our sins. We ask this in the name of Jesus the Lord.

First Reading : St Paul’s Letter to the Romans 12:9-16 Reader: This is the Word of the Lord.

All: Thanks be to God.

Second reading ; 2 Corinthians 5:17-21 (Reading provided below or Sunday Lect. C, no. 33)

A reading from the second Letter of Saint Paul to the Corinthians.

Brothers and sisters:

Whoever is in Christ is a new creation: the old things have passed away; behold, new things have come.

And all this is from God, who has reconciled us to himself through Christ and given to us the ministry of reconciliation, namely, God was reconciling the world
to himself in Christ, not counting their trespasses against them and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.

So we are ambassadors for Christ, as if God were appealing through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.

For our sake he made him to be sin who did not know sin, so that he might become the righteousness of God in him. The word of the Lord.

Priest: The Lord be

All And with your spirit.
Priest Lift up your hearts.
All We lift them up to the Lord.
Priest Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
All It is right and just.
Priest It is truly right and just,
our duty and our salvation,
always and everywhere to give you thanks,
Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God,
through Christ our Lord.
For through his Paschal Mystery,
he accomplished the marvellous deed,
by which he has freed us
from the yoke of sin and death,
summoning us to the glory of being now called
a chosen race, a royal priesthood,
a holy nation, a people for your own possession,
to proclaim everywhere your mighty works,
for you have called us out of darkness
into your own wonderful light.
And so, with Angels and Archangels,
with Thrones and Dominions,
and with all the hosts and Powers of heaven,
we sing the hymn of your glory,
as without end we acclaim:
All Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts.
Heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he
who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.
All Kneel
You are indeed Holy, O Lord,
Priest the fount of all holiness.
Make holy, therefore, these gifts, we pray,
by sending down your Spirit upon them like the dewfall,
so that they may become for us
the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.
At the time he was betrayed
and entered willingly into his Passion,
he took bread and, giving thanks, broke it,
and gave it to his disciples, saying:
take this, all of you, and eat of it,
for this is my body,
which will be given up for you.
In a similar way, when supper was ended,
he took the chalice
and, once more giving thanks,
he gave it to his disciples, saying:
take this, all of you, and drink from it,
for this is the chalice of my blood,
the Blood of the new and eternal covenant,
which will be poured out for you and for many
for the forgiveness of sins.
Do this in memory of me.
Priest The mystery of faith.
All When we eat this Bread and drink this Cup,
we proclaim your Death, O Lord,
until you come again.
Priest Therefore, as we celebrate
the memorial of his Death and Resurrection,
we offer you, Lord,
the Bread of life and the Chalice of salvation,
giving thanks that you have held us worthy
to be in your presence and minister to you.
Humbly we pray
that, partaking of the Body and Blood of Christ,
we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit.
Remember, Lord, your Church,
spread throughout the world,
and bring her to the fullness of charity,
together with Benedictour Pope
and Denis our Bishop and all the clergy.
Remember also our brothers and sisters
who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection,
and all who have died in your mercy:
welcome them into the light of your face.
Have mercy on us all, we pray,
that with the Blessed Virgin Mary,
Mother of God,
with the blessed Apostles,
and all the Saints who have pleased you throughout the ages,
we may merit to be coheirs to eternal life,
and may praise and glorify you
through your Son, Jesus Christ.
Through him, and with him, and in him,
O God, almighty Father,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
all glory and honour is yours,
for ever and ever.
All Amen.
FINAL BLESSING

We pray for all those students preparing to receive Reconciliation for the first time. May they be guided by your wisdom and love. We pray to the Lord.

We pray for our parents and families. May Jesus’ example teach them about the gift of forgiveness so they too may become forgiving people. We pray to the
Lord.

We pray for our school and parish community. May they be places of peace so that our world may become a place of greater peace and harmony. We pray to
the Lord.

Loving God, hear our prayers. As you showed your love for us by sending Jesus, your Son, may we too learn to show love for one another in our daily lives.
We ask this through Jesus our Lord.
 Amen.
