Recitation
Recitation is voluntary and will comprise 20% of your final grade. The recitation grade
will depend on the number of acceptable recitations, as follows: 0=5.0; 1=4.0; 2=3.0;
3=2.75; 4=2.5; 5=2.25; 6=2.0; 7=1.75; 8=1.5; 9=1.25; 10=1.0. You can confirm after
each class if your recitation was recorded.
Quizzes
Pre-announced quizzes will comprise 80% of your final grade. Quizzes always cover the
subject matter taken up since the start of the semester. The student/s who get the
highest point total will receive a quiz grade of 1.0. The others will receive a quiz grade
based on a sliding scale of 4% increments. Thus, a student with a point total within 4%
of the highest will get a quiz grade of 1.25.
Attendance Bonus
Perfect attendance = +.25 in the final grade. Late = absent. No excused absence for
whatever reason. However, you are given 1 absence to use as you wish. Every absence
thereafter will result in your final grade being diminished by .125. More than 6 absences
= dropped. There is no stepping out of the classroom once the class has started. You can
confirm after each class if your attendance was recorded.
Mindfulness Bonus
An additional +.25 in the final grade will be given to those who can be mindful, with
eyes open or half-open, in the lotus position for 25 minutes, the seiza position for 30
minutes, or the half-lotus position for 35 minutes.
1.0/Finals/Removals
Only one student will be given a grade of 1.0, except when there is a tie or as a result of
the mindfulness bonus. A grade of 2.5 or better at the end of the semester after taking
into account the quizzes, recitation, attendance and bonus will exempt a student from
taking the final exam. For those who must take the final exam, the best grade that they
can get is a 2.5. No removal examination will be given.
