LESSON PLAN # 1 Days: 2

Lesson Title: ​Found Object Flower Gardens
Grade Level: ​Kindergarten

Central Focus: ​Through the creation four found object flower prints, students will learn about
how to repurpose everyday objects and utilize them to create art.

IL Art Learning Standards:


CREATING: Anchor Standard 1 and 2: Generate and conceptualize artistic ideas and
work.
Investigate, Plan, Make: VA:Cr1.1.K ​Engage in exploration and imaginative play with
materials.
● In this lesson, students will meet this standard by experimenting with various found
objects to create a grass like landscape.

Investigate: VA:Cr2.3.K ​Create art that represents natural and constructed environments.
● In this lesson, students will meet this standard by creating a flower landscape using
flower stamps.

Objectives: Illinois Fine Art


Standards

Objective I:
Given various found objects, paint and construction paper, students VA:Cr1.1.K
will create four grass like backgrounds.

Objective II:
Given a flower printmaking stamps and paint, students will VA:Cr2.3.K
thoughtfully add flowers on top of their printmaking backgrounds
from the previous week.

Instructional Resources and Materials:


Presentation about Pop Art, Andy Warhol, and his flower prints.

Art Materials for the Lesson:


Colored sheets of construction paper, various different colors of paint, flower stampers, found
object stampers for grass.

Management and Safety Issues:


This lesson will require basic management of students and their behavior. Students should be
carefully observed to ensure that they are using their materials appropriately.
Vocabulary:
● Day One and Two
○ Andy Warhol: ​American artist, director and producer who was a leading figure in
the visual art movement known as pop art.
○ Background:​ ​the area or scenery behind the main object of contemplation,
especially when perceived as a framework for it.
○ Cool colors: ​such as blue, green, and purple (violet); evoke a cool feeling
because they remind us of things like water or grass.
○ Foreground: ​the part of a view that is nearest to the observer, especially in a
picture or photograph.
○ Pop art:​ ​The movement presented a challenge to traditions of fine art by including
imagery from popular and mass culture, such as advertising, comic books and
mundane cultural objects.
○ Printmaking:​ ​process of making artworks by printing, normally on paper.
○ Texture: ​the feel, appearance, or consistency of a surface or a substance.
○ Warm colors:​ ​such as red, yellow, and orange; evoke warmth because they
remind us of things like the sun or fire.
