The tyipical Spanish dances are characterized by varying according to each
Autonomus Community and for being one of the most important cultural
manifestations in representation of each city.
Among them, flamenco and
Sevillanas are a Spanish brand
known anywhere in the world.
But there are more like
La Muñeira from Galicia,
El Aurresku from the Basque
Country and La Sardana
from Catalonia.
The Jota is a Spanish dance that is danced in most communities of Spain. The
origin of the Jota dates back to the late eighteenth century.

The most popular are the Aragonese Jotas,


as well as the Castilian Jota, Leon,
Valencia,La Rioja and Navarra.
The Jota is a dance accompanied by

a voice and in which the dancers use

castanets in each hand, as well as a

characterisctic regional costume. The dance is also accompnied by guitars, lute,


bandurrias, accordions and tambourines.In the communities of the northern
Spain bagpipes are included.
The chotis is a ballroom dance that arrived to Spain from Bohemia
(Czech Republic ) in the year 1850, when in was danced in the Royal
Palace of Madrid for the first time .

It is danced as a couple (man


and woman) and the woman is
turning around the man with
crossed steps or taking steps
backwards and forwards .

Sevillanas are also one of the typical dances of Andalusia. It is especially
popular during the April Fair in Seville and the Romería del El Rocío (Huelva),
although it has become popular throughout Western Andalusia.

Before the Catholic Kings the name of this dance was seguidillas castellanas.
However, later the flamenco component was introduced and ended up
receiving the name of sevillanas.

There are numerous dance academies around


the world where this dance is taught,so it is
know all over the world.
They usually dance as a couple and it is divided
in four songs. The fundamental instrument is
a Spanish guitar.
