Sido Muncul to double its

export revenues

Jamu (herbal medicine) producer PT Industri Jamu dan Farmasi Sido Muncul plans to double its
exports value next year.

Sido Muncul director Venancia Sri Indrijati said Tuesday that her firm was aiming to target an
increase to 5 percent of Sido Muncul’s total revenues, from the current 2 to 2.5 percent — worth
around Rp 41.26 billion (US$3.03 million) — booked in this year’s first nine months.

In the near future, the company plans to boost export share to 10 percent of its total revenues.
Venancia, however, refused to detail the time frame. “We want to directly export our products, to
achieve the target,” she said.

Currently, Sido Muncul’s products, especially its herbal medicine variants, reach overseas markets
through individual distributors or stores that buy the products in Indonesia and carry it back with
them. The company also accepts direct orders and will arrange for overseas delivery to a buyer’s
store.

Venancia stated that her company would further explore its existing overseas markets rather than
looking to enter new markets as Sido Muncul’s herbals were already available in many countries
and had a loyal consumer base.

Currently, Sido Muncul has a popular following in several countries including Singapore, Malaysia,
Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia, the United States and Nigeria.

“However, the process is not as easy as distributing the products there,” she said, adding that Sido
Muncul would be required to pass several registration and product test procedures before being
allowed to export into its targeted countries.

Sido Muncul president director Irwan Hidayat said that herbal products often stumble into strict food
and medicine regulations.

“We finally found a way, by categorizing our herbal products as food supplements and not as
medicine,” he said. Their Tolak Angin herbal product remained the dominate seller for Sido Muncul
throughout this year’s first nine months.

According to the company’s financial report, sales of herbal medicine and supplements contributed
Rp 885.27 billion or 53.64 percent of total company revenues, which stood at Rp 1.65 trillion,
followed by food and beverage at Rp 704.83 billion (42.71 percent) and pharmaceutical at Rp 60.21
billion (3.65 percent).

In order to strengthen its herbal and supplement segment, Sido Muncul will launch a new
production site in Semarang, Central Java, next year, in anticipation of the higher demands
expected within four to five years. The production site, at an investment amounting to around Rp
200 billion, will quadruple the company’s current production capacity of 85 million sachets per
month.

“Our next step is to further develop our herbal product range because we still have hundreds of
heritage recipes and the benefits of these products have been tested,” said Venancia, expressing
hope that modernization of traditional herbal medicine would contribute to her company’s growth.

She also announced that Sido Muncul would launch a new herbal variant in January and were
expecting to announce at least three new products annually. Sido Muncul to introduce four new
products this year, three herbal medicine and supplement variants and an energy drink.

The company booked a 3.53 percent growth year-on-year in this year’s sales revenues, while net
profits climbed up 3.67 percent to Rp 326.03 billion.

Plans to explore existing overseas markets with a view to further boost revenue through export.

Vomit, facemasks as 'extreme smog'

clouds China Open

A player's complaint that the smog made him vomit and the unflattering sight of fans in face masks
have put Beijing's notorious air pollution back in the spotlight after haze hit this week's China Open.

"Hazardous" levels of smog cleared by Thursday, but not before Martin Klizan's angry tirade and
pictures highlighting the murky air went worldwide on social and traditional media.

In a widely reported Facebook post, since deleted, the Slovakian world number 42 said he coughed
uncontrollably and then vomited after his defeat to Fabio Fognini, and vowed never to play at the
tournament again.

"Regardless of the result of today's match... it has been such an extreme smog in Beijing today that
half an hour after the beginning of the match I started to cough uncontrollably after every point and I
had to vomit after the match," the post read.

"There is such an extreme smog in this city, that due to my health, which should be a priority of
every tournament organizer, unfortunately, I will have to leave this tournament out from my
calendar for the rest of my tennis career."

Klizan later deleted the post, although several fans referenced the message in comments they left
on his Facebook page.

New York Times journalist Christopher Clarey put further pressure on organizers when he tweeted:
"Air quality should absolutely be a factor in whether a city gets to stage an outdoor tennis
tournament...or not."

Tournament officials have not responded to a request for an interview and information about at
what level of air pollution, if any, play would be suspended, and what contingency planning was in
place.

Levels of PM2.5 particulates -- small enough to deeply penetrate the lungs -- were above 300
micrograms per cubic meter for much of Wednesday, according to the website of the US embassy
in Beijing.

Measurements over 300 are rated as "hazardous" by the website and carry the warning: "Everyone
should avoid all outdoor exertion." Chinese authorities this week issued a yellow alert for smog, the
third highest.

- 'Cuts days from your life' -

Air pollution is a chronic problem for China and with a rising number of professional tennis events
around the country, players' exposure is also likely to increase.

The Women's Tennis Association has eight events in China this year, while the men's Association
of Tennis Professionals has three. Most of the matches are played outdoors.

The China Open was previously entangled in pollution controversy two years ago, when Swedish
player Robert Lindstedt described Beijing as: "The city that cuts off days from your life every time
you visit."

"I get dizzy when I get up. Yesterday I couldn’t recover between points in practice and was
breathing heavily the whole hour... It’s just not healthy to be here," he added in his blog.

Three players have complained of dizzy spells this year although one of them, Eugenie Bouchard,
suffered concussion in recent weeks, and Petra Kvitova blamed the glandular fever she has
struggled with this year.

The third, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, staggered on court in his first-round match on Monday, and had his
heartbeat checked with a stethoscope before he lost limply to Austria's Andreas Haider-Maurer.

"I don't know. You know, nothing in me can calculate if it's enough oxygen for me or not. I just play
tennis," said Tsonga, when asked if the pollution was to blame.

Many competitors have attempted to play down the situation or say that, after several years of
visiting China, they are resigned to the smoggy conditions.

"Well, (it's) definitely tough. A little bit different than usual. But I think we're all kind of used to it,
right?" said Polish fourth seed Agnieszka Radwanska.

Rafael Nadal inadvertently coughed before he dismissed the air pollution as "nothing new for us",
while Angelique Kerber conceded: "It's a little bit difficult.

"It's the same for everyone. Of course, it's different than normal (conditions). But I'm trying to stay in
my rhythm and just trying to not think about this, just trying to play," she said. (k)

Young leaders tackle

migration, terrorism at summit

Tertiani ZB Simanjuntak, The Jakarta Post, Bangkok | World | Fri, November 20 2015, 8:56 AM

World News

Young leaders gathering for a summit in Bangkok have voiced their concern over pressing global
problems from migration to terrorist attacks, with vibrant discussion on identifying root causes and
taking action to resolve the problems.

Addressing how young people can play a role in protecting migrants’ rights during the greatest
period of migration in the last 60 years, young delegates to the One Young World Summit from
Thailand, Eritrea, Germany, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Brazil discussed how their respective
nations had worked to resolve the issue.

Nobel Peace Prize nominee Father Mussie Zerai gave an introductory keynote on his one-man
emergency hotline for refugees.

Nineteen-year-old Kamolnan Chearavanont, the cofounder of Thailand’s Voices — an advocacy

group for stateless people — gave an emotional speech that prompted the summit committee later
in the day to announce the inclusion of representatives of the stateless at the next summit in Ottawa.

“Each of us here represents a nation. Think of the 10 million stateless people who don’t have their
own,” Chearavanont said, urging all participants to pressure their own governments to solve issues
involving the stateless, who were vulnerable to abuse and crime.

An online vote in the wake of the session showed that nearly all of the participants agreed that
wealthier governments should take responsibility for migrants and welcome homeless strangers.

However, the majority of the participants at the summit, which kicked off on Thursday, also believed
that the waves of migrants would incite security issues in destination countries.

One Young World is a global forum for young leaders aged between 18 and 30 cofounded by
advertising professionals Kate Robertson and David Jones in 2009.

The annual summit this year gathered 1,300 delegates from 196 countries and was attended by
luminaries such as former UN secretary general Kofi Annan, Grameen Bank founder Muhammad
Yunus, music producer Sir Bob Geldof and CCTV news anchor and UNAIDS news ancho for China
James Chau.
In a special session on Thursday where Kofi Annan took questions from the young leaders, the
Nobel Peace laureate addressed the recent Paris attacks and the threat of the Islamic State (IS)
movement.

“These issues cannot be resolved by force alone. There has to be an attempt to deal with the group
force. That means taking serious steps to resolve conflict in Syria.

“Ultimately the solution is political and I would hope if the regional and national powers can come
together and work to defeat IS and settle the situation in the region. If we don’t do that it will get
much worse,” he said.

“I hope Syria and the people involved in the conflict realize the killings are senseless and futile.”

In his opening speech, Annan also addressed young people from around the globe to urge the
government to take an active role on the upcoming 21st Conference of Parties (COP21) in Paris
where the country leaders would attempt to reach a binding agreement on climate change.

The Call on COP campaign was activated on stage at the opening ceremony late on Wednesday by
Annan and Geldof, the activist behind
Live Aid.

“These are your issues, you are the ones who have to live with the consequences,” Annan told the
young delegates.

“You need to reach out to politicians, you have the capacity to do it. Make sure they know you are
there.”

Bond producers hope to 'hang on' to

Daniel Craig as 007

Before James Bond could even get himself into his first pickle, a shadowy
international threat loomed.

About a week into shooting "Spectre," James Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and
Michael G. Wilson got some bad news. Not only had a draft of the highly secretive
script been leaked in the infamous Sony hack, but it came along with a slew of private
communications about the film, highlighting its third act problems, multiple rewrites,
ballooning budget and one very significant spoiler.

Broccoli and Wilson didn't find this out from the Internet or even Sony — the
distributor and co-financier on "Spectre." They read about it in a newspaper. With
phone lines and email servers down, they couldn't even get in touch with their
partners in the immediate aftermath.

"It was a bit tricky for us," Broccoli acknowledged. But beyond making sure the
copyrighted script was taken offline, she said they essentially just proceeded with
making the film.

"You know what they say, you shouldn't see how a sausage is made," Wilson said in a
recent phone interview from Mexico City. He and his step-sister Broccoli were in the
capital to attend a premiere of "Spectre," the 24th in the 53-year-old film series, which
bows in North America on Friday.

The purported drama that the hacked emails exposed is no more or less than they've
experienced on any other film in the franchise, noted Broccoli in the phone interview.

"They're challenging films to make because of the size of what we do," she said. "I
always say, if you don't like problems, don't become a film producer."

"Spectre" certainly doesn't skimp on size. The film, which finds the martini-swilling spy
on a multi-continent quest, opens with a complicated tracking shot in the streets of
Mexico City for the Day of the Dead parade, featuring over 1,500 extras dressed and
painted to perfection. It required 1,500 unique costumes, 75 costumers, five months of
preparation, two helicopters and police escorts for the busses used to transport the
extras.

And that's only one of the film's exotic set pieces. There's also the 400 tons of
man-made snow that they had to use in Austria, the 18 nights they spent shooting a
car chase in Rome, and the sand storms and 113-degree temperatures they found in
Erfoud, Morocco. The film's budget is reported to be near $250 million.
But Bond is big business and the series has been on an upswing. The last film,
"Skyfall," was produced for a reported $150-$200 million and became the highest
grossing Bond film ever with over $1.1 billion in ticket sales worldwide. "Spectre" sees
the return of "Skyfall" director Sam Mendes and star Daniel Craig in his fourth film as
007.

Broccoli and Wilson have been around the franchise for most of their lives (Albert R.
"Cubby" Broccoli, Barbara Broccoli's father, in ticket sales worldwide for bringing Ian
Fleming's character to the big screen). To them, success isn't necessarily money, it's
just pleasing audiences.

As they roll out "Spectre" in theaters, though, the future is more in flux than usual. For
one, the contract between MGM and Sony is up and the franchise is in the market for
a new distributor. (They may still end up renewing with Sony, their partners for 10
years).

There's also the issue of Craig, who early in his press appearances for the film said
he'd rather "slit his wrists" than return for another, for one more 007 appearance.

"We had an 8-month shoot and he was tired," Broccoli said regarding Craig's coarse
comments. "I think we all feel at the end of a movie that the thought of doing another
one right away is always a little bit too much to contemplate. It's like childbirth. You
don't ask a woman who's just given birth, 'oh when are you going to do it again?'"

Craig later stated that he'll keep going as long as he's "physically able." The
47-year-old actor injured his knee while shooting "Spectre."

Neither Broccoli nor Wilson will even entertain the question of which actor, or actress,
might take up the mantle if Craig decides not to continue, and they definitely won't
comment on the Internet's favorite dream Bond: Idris Elba.

"Daniel Craig is our James Bond and until that's no longer the case we're not going to
speculate," said Broccoli. "We love him and we want to hang on to him. Let's hope we
can."

These days, more and more franchises are playing the long game — announcing film
titles, release dates directors and even casts up to five years in advance. The Bond
films are a different beast. While there are deals in place for how many films a
particular studio might distribute, they're not staking claim to release dates or even
committing to a particular year for No. 25.

"Good for them if they can do it," said Wilson, of the strategies of Marvel Studios,
Lucasfilm and others making grand promises and outlines for fans (and
shareholders)."We just set about trying to make a good movie and we do it the best
we can. And in our time," added Broccoli. "I don't think we can comment on other
people's process, but that's our process. We'll just stick to that."

As Bond would probably attest, why mess with the formula? Shaken, not stirred,
works just fine. (kes)

Economic union, sea row and terrorism

top SE Asia summit

Eileen Ng, The Associated Press, Kuala Lumpur | World | Fri, November 20 2015, 11:57 AM

Leaders of Southeast Asia will formally declare their diverse region is now an economic community
that in some ways resembles the European Union, but they have a long way to go before the
project becomes fully functional. The declaration will be made at a weekend summit that will also
focus on the long-seething maritime rifts in the South China Sea and terrorism.

The 10 leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, or ASEAN, will also hold talks with
their counterparts from eight other countries, including President Barack Obama. A look at the key
topics in the meetings:

ASEAN COMM UNITY

ASEAN leaders will on Sunday formally launch the ASEAN Community that has been 10 years in
the making, encompassing three key pillars: economic, political-security and socio-cultural. It will
become a formal entity on Dec. 31.

The transformation of the disparate region into a unified market forms the core of the community.
The ASEAN Economic Community, or the AEC as it is known, is aimed at bolstering the region's
economic clout and counterbalance a rising China and an America that is increasingly assertive in
Asia. It goes beyond liberalizing trade in goods. Services, investment, skilled labor and capital will
also be allowed to move across borders more freely, a landmark step in economic cooperation for
the region.

In one key development, easing restrictions on work visas will make it easier for people from one
country to seek employment in another, but so far it applies only to eight professions, including
medical, accounting, engineering and tourism.

WHO ARE IN THE COMMUNITY?

Its members are the 10 ASEAN countries with a total population of more than 600 million people,
larger than either the European Union or North America. ASEAN was set up in 1967 as a bulwark
against communism in the Cold War era but it was only in the last two decades that attention shifted
to economic integration. A wide economic gulf divides Southeast Asia's rich and middle income
economies — Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei, Thailand and the Philippines — and its four
less developed members, communist Vietnam and Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia.

FUNDAMENTALS

Unlike the European Union, the 10 members will maintain their economic and financial
independence. There will be no central agencies such as a common central bank, parliament or
court as in Europe, and no common currency. The AEC is based more on consensus than creating
overarching institutions that take on some of the powers of member governments.
Changes will not be abrupt because many of the targets have been implemented gradually over the
last five years. While tariff on most goods traded in the region have been largely eliminated, ASEAN
still falls short on more politically sensitive areas of reform such as opening up protected sectors
like agriculture, steel and motor vehicles. Intra-regional trade has remained at around 24 percent for
the last decade, far lower than 60 percent in the EU.

CHALLENGES

The Asian Development Bank in a research paper earlier this year warned that creating a fully
functional economic community by Dec. 31 is impossible. Southeast Asian officials however, stress
that the formation of the AEC is not the destination but a journey to deeper integration. They say
more work is required on domestic reforms, infrastructure and strengthening skills. Efforts must also
be made to address trade and investment impediments, non-tariff barriers and other regulatory
hindrances that are increasingly replacing tariffs as protective measures for some industries. At the
same time, government corruption and unreliable courts in the region also create roadblocks to
trade because they make contracts hard to enforce.

SOUTH CHINA SEA

The maritime conflict in one of the world's busiest waterways has long been a sore point in the
region. China claims most of the South China Sea, creating a fault-line in relations with its regional
neighbors. Taiwan and ASEAN members Brunei, Malaysia, the Philippines and Vietnam also have
overlapping claims across the sea. The Philippines and Vietnam in particular have been at odds
with China over the region in recent years, with diplomatic squabbles erupting over oil and gas
exploration and fishing rights.

Through land reclamation, China has created artificial islands from reefs to bolster its claims. Earlier
this week, Obama renewed calls for China to halt land reclamation, construction and militarization
in the disputed area, and is expected to repeat the same message at the Kuala Lumpur meetings.

FIGHT AGAINST TERROR

ASEAN and its partners are expected to increase commitment and cooperation in the war against
terrorism following last Friday's deadly attacks by the Islamic State extremist group in Paris, which
killed at least 129 people and wounded hundreds.

Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Zahid Hamidi this week voiced concerns that the simultaneous
bombings at a stadium, concert hall and cafes in Paris could spark copycats in the region. Security
measures have been enhanced for the regional summits in Kuala Lumpur, with checks stepped up
at all entry and exit points to the country. Some 10,000 police and army personnel have been
deployed at the meeting venue, hotels and other strategic locations in the city. The U.S., China and
Russia have been given permission to bring their own armed security teams.

REAL THREAT

Zahid said a leaked police circular outlined the presence of a regional terrorist network, Daulah
Nusantara, that aims to take over Southeast Asia. It involves two Philippines Muslim rebel groups
and the Islamic State.
Zahid, who is also home minister, said Malaysian authorities have detected their plans earlier and
taken action to prevent the group from carrying out any attacks. Police in Malaysia, Indonesia,
Thailand and several other countries are working together to thwart the group, he added.

National Police Chief Khalid Abu Bakar said in a statement late Thursday that reports of imminent
terrorist threats in Malaysia have yet to be confirmed but security forces are taking all possible
precautions.

industrial site expansion 聽

The Jakarta Post, Jakarta | Business | Wed, June 09 1999, 7:26 AM

JAKARTA (JP): PT Megalopolis Manunggal Industrial Development, developer ofthe MM 2100

Industrial Town in Cibitung, West Java, said on Tuesday it would continue its expansion in
anticipation of a possible surge in future demands.

Company commissioner and advisor Goro Tamatsukuri said the expansion -- covering 445
hectares of new industrial area -- would be part of the company's third phase expansion program.

""We are optimistic that foreign investors, especially from Japan, will enter Indonesia later this year
after seeing that the general election proceeded peacefully,"" he said in a news conference.

Concerns reigned that the elections could spark fresh riots in the country, plagued by ethnic and
religious conflicts in the past several months.

Despite Monday's balloting proceeding smoothly, there also are fears thatlosing parties could cause
trouble. Analysts believe the anxiety is exaggerated.

Tamatsukuri said there were about 10 foreign investors, most of them Japanese, who planned to
develop their businesses on his industrial estate later this year.

""One of them is a giant electronic semiconductor company which will occupy 40 hectares of our
area,"" he said.

Tamatsukuri said that his company -- a joint venture of Japan's Marubeni Corporation and PT
Bekasi Fajar Industrial Estate, a subsidiary of the widely diversified Argo Manunggal Group --
began the third phase of the industrial estate's expansion project last year, but it was progressing
slowly due to the drop in demand.

""We have invested around US$400 million in the estate. Our investment will reach around $1
billion after the development of the whole industrial site which covers 2,500 hectares, including its
commercial and housing area, is completed by the year 2007,"" he said.

The company also will develop a 40-hectare zone for high-tech industry this year, he said.

First and second phase construction of the industrial estate projects, which cover over 1,000
hectares, are fully occupied. There are 95 companiesoperating in the area, 82 of which are owned
by foreign investors.

""Total investment of the companies operating in our industrial estate reached $2 billion, with export
value of $1.9 billion annually. They employmore than 32,000 employees,"" he said.
Tamatsukuri said 110 investors bought space in his industrial estate, butsome of them have yet
begin their operations due to the economic crisis andlingering fears over the country's unstable
politic and social condition.

The majority, or 79 firms, are Japanese.

""But none of them have canceled their plans and pulled out of here. They are just waiting for the
country's political condition to improve,"" he said.

PT Megalopolis, established in 1990, is 60 percent owned by Marubeni Corporation with the

remainder owned by Bekasi Fajar Industrial Estate.

Tamatsukuri said demand for the industrial estate dropped sharply in the last two years.

""We could sell our space to only one investor last year and one more until today. Before the crisis
began we could sell our space to over 20 investors annually,"" he said.

Indonesia's unstable political and social condition in the last two yearsmade the country less
attractive to foreign investors than its neighbors such as Thailand, Malaysia and the Philippines
despite their higher prices for industrial estates.

""Japanese investors prefer to develop their business in Malaysia and Thailand, despite the fact
that prices of industrial areas in the two countries are higher than in Indonesia, due to their relatively
stable political condition,"" he said.

""However, we believe that they will come back to Indonesia after the elections, due to the country
dependable, consistent and business-friendly investment policies, a huge pool of workers willing to
work at competitive wages, and growing domestic market of goods and services,"" he said. (gis)
