On 5 December 2017 the below part of your request was transferred to the Department of Corrections, in accordance with section 14 ofthe OIA: What was the reoffencing rate percentage of those sentenced to prison ‘and released/peroied forthe 10 years prior tothe three stkes system? What was New Zealand's reoffending rate in general for these 10 years? Please find the requested information for the years of 1999-2000 to 2002-20¢3 attached as Appendix One. The figures provided represent prisoners’ ‘c-imprisonment rates, at twelve months postrelease; and prisoners’ total roconviation rates ever the same period. Reconvietion do hot always leed to re-imprisonment, so the total rates of reconviction are higher than the re-imprisonment rates as they include released prisoners who were subsequently sentenced to a community-based sentence or order, Please noe that figures are recorded by financial year. Reducing re-offending is an important objective for Corrections, and measures ‘of reciciviem, particularly re-imprisonment and reconviction rates, are key Indicators of our services’ performance. Corrections’ Annual Reports from 2004-2005 onwards are publicly available online.
