advance payment you received in
December 2017 was deducted from
the payment due to you.
In accordance with the TNM STI
policy employees who joined TNM
after 30 Sept 2017 do not qualify for
the STI payment and employees who
joined during 2017 received a
proportional STI payment based on
the period you served during the
year.
I hope that you enjoyed this reward
and that it motivated all of us to
achieve even better results in 2018.
Remember the main bases of the STI
is the overall company achievement
the of the main Business Targets, if
these are not attained there will be
no STI payment. It is therefore very
important for each of us to
contribute towards growing revenue
and subscribers by being customer
obsessed, and to ensure we avoid all
unnecessary wastage of expenditure
in all areas.

I t is my pleasure to inform you

about the final STI payment for
2017 as approved by the Board of
Directors. The Business achievement
for the STI 2017 against the Business
Targets for 2017 was as score of
140.45% for Level 3 to 6. This resulted
in the payment of 21.07% of your
annual TCE for Level 5 and 6
payment.
The STI 2017 payment was made
through the March 2018 payroll and
was finally determined by your
It is also the policy of TNM and a
condition of the STI payment, that
TNM will utilise a part of this
payment to reduce the staff loans
owed to TNM by certain employees
and the appropriate deductions were
made.
TNM achieved good results for 2017
and the Board of Directors and
Management want to again extend
our sincere appreciation towards
every employee for your contribution
to the success that TNM achieved.
Further to this the Board of Directors
had also approved a 15% TCE
adjustment. The TCE adjustment is
based on individual performance and
is also a means for management to
ensure parity in salary scales across
all levels, the TCE was implemented
from 1st April 2018.

Editor’s Note As the SIM registration exercise progresses,

Welcome to the April edition of the Yanga
Bulletin. May celebrates labour day and it
is my hope you had a great holiday
reflecting on the achievements of
workers.
Yanga applauds all staff members that have
been volunteering to register subscribers. There
is strength in numbers so while the target
sounds scary but through our combined
initiatives to reach out to the customer base, we
are slowly making meaningful progress.
This edition reflects on the 2018 strategy and
key milestones for the year. This complements
the recent town hall meetings by the leadership
team. It is Yanga’s hope that we are now all
aligned with the 2018 strategy and geared
towards attainment of set goals for the
year.
Buoyed by the theme “It’s time” the 2018
strategy reminds us that it is time for each one
of us to rise up to the challenge and make our
noble contribution.
Let us be guided by our values of commitment
to employees first, being values driven and
having a customer obsession, innovation,
differentiation and efficiency at scale.
Again, as we implement the strategy, let us
remain alert to our core values of humility,
stewardship, optimism, working together and
humility.
As we push for implementation, we have no time
to sit on our laurels. The year is already slipping
away. We are in May which leaves us with 7
months of 2018 within which we must meet our
targets. It’s time.

2018 Strategy

The TNM Leadership Team The 2018 strategy targets to

recently undertook the TNM
2018 Roadshow exercise with a
key objective of sharing across
the organization key decisions
and strategies formulated
during the Management
Retreat in Mangochi in february.
Following conclusion of the
exercise in Mzuzu, Acting CEO
says this now marks the end of
the beginning as TNM moves
forward to implement and
achieve its strategy.
“This is the execution phase
where each one of us should be
doing what we committed to do
to make sure we win. Game’s
On,” said the ACEO.
Staff members hailed the
exercise and it gave them
opportunity to personally
engage with the leadership
team.

strategy implores staff that it is
time each one of us rose up to
the challenge and make our
noble contributions.

the retreat in Mangochi.
While TNM’s long-term vision
for 2020 is to “become be the
leading ICT and multimedia
service provider in Malawi” the
vision for 2018 is to “create
customers who create
customers”. This shall entail
staff going the extra mile to
create a memorable customer
experience.
During the year, strategic
investments will focus on New
Coverage, Hybrid PostPaid &
PrePaid, Microwave
Modernisation, Fibre GPON
and MPLS, Ubiquitous U900
and Lilongwe Data
Centre.

April. During the exhibition, which took place at Bingu
International Conference Centre (BICC), TNM Plc

She re-joined TNM on 2nd March 2018 as Manager, Core & VAS Planning
having worked in a similar role. She joins TNM from Mahindra Comviva where
she was Country Lead for VAS and Airtel Money. She looks forward to be one
of the driving forces in growing the TNM brand.

William joined TNM on 1st April 2018 from FDH Bank as Manager-Human
Resource Development . His immediate drive is to make TNM’s Employee
Value Proposition relevant by building our internal talent for future roles
within TNM and giving value in form of recognition to our staff who have
been key for making TNM what it is today and taking it higher.

hosts College of Medicine who beat our ladies by
26 goals to 24. Watching the Green ladies swagg
on the court, one only wonder why they can't
make it into the Queens.
