AVR User’s Guide

1. Plug the multiple socket (green cable) into the wall outlet.
2. Also plug the floor electric fan. Switch this fan on as it is needed for equipment ventilation.
3. Switch on the multiple socket (where all the appliances are plugged).
4. Switch on only the required appliances.
5. After using, please make sure all appliances are switched off individually. (An exception is the
DVD/VCD player, which is better left dependent on the Yamaha’s switch.)
6. Switch off the multiple socket. No need to unplug appliances.
7. Unplug the multiple socket and electric fan from the wall outlet.

Reminder: When using any remote controller, remember to point at the appliance’s front; not at the
screen. 

For watching DVDs or Video CDs:

Yamaha amplifier, Samwon DVD/VCD player, & Liesegang projector

(1) Before switching on, check that the Yamaha’s volume knob is set to minimum to avoid
sudden loud sounds.
(2) The display should indicate DVD/LD. If it does not, press the DVD/LD button. Important:
Pressing the button several times switches to other modes, like DVD/LD 6ch. It should be
set to DVD/LD only.
(3) The display should also show Effect Off. If it does not, press the Effect button on the front
panel.
(4) If it is not yet on, switch on the Samwon DVD/VCD player.
(5) Press the Open/Close button to open the disc tray. Place the disc with the printed side up.
Press the Open/Close button to close the tray.
(6) Switch on the Liesegang projector. There are 2 switches. The “flick” switch near the power
cable should be set to “—“ (“O” means off). The top switch should show an orange light.
Press the top switch. Its light becomes green and the lens and screen should light up.
(7) If the screen does not display your movie or the Samwon startup screen or remains blue,
press the Input button until the screen shows your movie or the Samwon startup screen.
(8) For VCDs, the disc should automatically play. If you need to restart it, press the stop button
(), then play ().
(9) For DVDs, the disc should enter the menu screen. On the menu shown on the screen, Play
Movie should be highlighted. If not, using the Samwon remote, use the cursor/direction
keys to highlight “Play Movie,” then press Enter (the center button).
(10) Adjust the volume as needed, but don’t exceed beyond 24 (or the “11 o’clock position”)
on the volume dial. The speakers’ capacity might be exceeded.
(11) Speakers A and B should be switched on (on the lower left part of the Yamaha amp).
(12) Please leave the other knobs at their default position (Bass, Treble and Balance at “0”).
(13) After viewing, switch off the projector first. Press and hold the top switch (with the
green light) until the lens switches off (goes dark). Flick off the side switch (O position).
(14) Eject your disc. No need to switch off the DVD/VCD player using its power button.
(15) Switch off the Yamaha amp. The DVD/VCD player is also switched off.
For watching VHS tapes:

Yamaha amplifier, Aiwa VHS player, & Liesegang projector

(1) Before switching on, check that the Yamaha’s volume knob is set to minimum to avoid
sudden loud sounds.
(2) The display should indicate VCR. If it does not, press the VCR button.
(3) The display should also show Effect Off. If it does not, press the Effect button on the front
panel.
(4) Switch on the Aiwa VHS player.
(5) Insert the tape with the window side up.
(6) Switch on the Liesegang projector. There are 2 switches. The “flick” switch near the power
cable should be set to “—“ (“O” means off). The top switch should show an orange light.
Press the top switch. Its light becomes green and the lens and screen should light up.
(7) If the screen does not display your movie or the Samwon startup screen or remains blue,
press the Input button until the screen shows your movie or the Samwon startup screen.
(8) The tape will usually play automatically. If not, press the play () button on the VHS
player.
(9) Adjust the volume as needed, but don’t exceed beyond 24 (or the “11 o’clock position”) on
the volume dial. The speakers’ capacity might be exceeded.
(10) Speakers A and B should be switched on (on the lower left part of the Yamaha amp).
(11) Please leave the other knobs at their default position (Bass, Treble and Balance at “0”).

NOTE RE: Liesegang LCD projector.


The projector normally works continuously for 2+ hours. As the bulb ages, it becomes more
sensitive to heat. In this case, it may shut down after some viewing time. If this happens, stop your
movie (don’t just pause it), leave the projector off for 10 to 15 minutes. Don’t switch off the side
switch so as not to turn off the cooling fan. After this period, it can be used again.
The rest of the appliances need not be switched off while waiting in this case.
To resume watching a DVD, just press play and the movie resumes from where it was
stopped. Use the remote’s backward or previous button to locate missed scenes, then press play to
resume normal playback.
For VCDs, it’s not sure that the player will resume from the point it was stopped. Just use
the remote’s forward or next button to search for the right scene.
For projecting computer content:

Computer & Liesegang projector

(1) Switch on the Liesegang projector FIRST. There are 2 switches. The “flick” switch near the
power cable should be set to “—“ (“O” means off). The top switch should show an orange
light. Press the top switch. Its light becomes green and the lens and screen should light up.
(2) Press the Input button until the screen shows RGB1 or No input detected on RGB1.
(3) Switch on the computer.
(4) After using, shut down the computer first.
(5) To switch off the projector, press and hold the top switch (with the green light) until the lens
switches off (goes dark). Flick off the side switch (O position).

For listening to CDs:

Yamaha amplifier & Samwon DVD/VCD player

(1) Before switching on, check that the Yamaha’s volume knob is set to minimum to avoid
sudden loud sounds.
(2) The display should indicate DVD/LD. If it does not, press the DVD/LD button. Important:

set to DVD/LD only.
(3) If it is not yet on, switch on the Samwon DVD/VCD player.
(4) Press the Open/Close button to open the disc tray. Place the disc with the printed side up.

(5) Press play (). Use the remote. To skip tracks, use the next and back/previous buttons. To
move within a track, use the forward and backward buttons. Press play to resume normal
speed.
(6) Adjust the volume as needed, but don’t exceed beyond 24 (or the “11o’clock position”) on
the volume dial. The speakers’ capacity might be exceeded.
(7) Speakers A and B should be switched on (on the lower left part of the Yamaha amp).
(8) Please leave the other knobs at their default position (Bass, Treble and Balance at “0”).
(9) After listening, eject your disc. No need to switch off the DVD/VCD player using its power
button.
(10) Switch off the Yamaha amp. The DVD/VCD player is also switched off.

Using the Overhead projector for projecting acetates or transparencies:

(1) Switch on the projector using the square button on the front panel.
(2) Adjust the focus using the knob on the side of the mirror. Be careful not to detach the mirror
with too much turning.
(3) Be careful not to move (bump) the projector (and its table) while it is on, as this can cause
the bulb to blow.
(4) Switch off after using.
(5) Do not leave the projector on for a long time if you are not projecting anything. Please do
not use it as a spotlight.
Other Rules and Guidelines

1. Please remind your students


 not to eat inside the AVR
 not to leave trash

2. Always turn on both aircons and electric fans for proper ventilation.

3. It is recommended not to bring in more than 60 students at once, as the ventilation is limited.

4. Only teachers should operate equipment, except for the overhead projector and the computer,
when used for student reporting.

5. Do not change the arrangement of the equipment, even temporarily, without permission from the
office.

6. Do not change any connection with the equipments.

7. If you need to connect any outside equipment (e.g. videocam, another DVD player), secure a
clearance from the office first.

8. Outside musical instruments and speakers are not allowed to be connected.

9. After using the AVR.


 always check that all appliances and lights are off
 always lock the door and padlock the gate
 return the keys to the office
