Operation Overlord
1. This is about Operation Overlord, AKA D-Day, the beginning of the battle of normandy
in WW2.
2. From other texts and documentaries I’ve read and watched, i noticed that each one
specifies the importance of D-Day and how it was the reason WW2 ended in victory for
the allied powers.
3. The author’s purpose is to inform us about the importance of D-Day and how it affected
the end of the war.
a. “It was an attack hitler had long been expecting… The stage was set for one of the
greatest battles of World War 2”(Powel).
4. The audience is anyone who wants to know about the battle of normandy.
a. The language used is understandable by most people with at least some education can
understand it.
b. The choice of audience doesn't really affect the documentary because it is mostly facts
that are being spoken, not much bias.
5. The most relevant details that argue the position is the other major battles before and after
D-Day claiming to be the greatest battle but it is all just opinions.
6. The film uses a lot of Logos.
a. “Those troops who made it to shore were immediately pinned down”(Powel). “Over
3,000 allied soldiers were killed or taken prisoner”(Powel). “The Dieppe disaster
reinfered the british view that an invasion of europe couldn’t be rushed”(Powel).
7. A possible theme for this text can be that Operation Overlord is very important because if
it was done any time before, after, or anywhere else, it would have failed.
a. “Operation overlord, the greatest seaborne invasion ever, was underway”(Powel). “The
allies unleashed their greatest gamble to invade Hitler’s empire in western
europe”(Powel). “The timing of the invasion had caught the Germans completely by
surprise”(Powel).
8. The Film helped me understand that D-Day was a very important event that could have
gone completely wrong but it was a gamble the allied powers had to make.
9. If i had to change anything, I’d add ethos to the documentary because hearing just facts
gets boring.
a. The audience that is younger may get bored of it because of its length and monotone
10. Operation Overlord was one of the greatest battles of WW2 and the greatest seaborne
invasion ever. The invasion had caught Germany by surprise and this operation is what
led to the victory of WW2. “Operation overlord, the greatest seaborne invasion ever, was
underway”(Powel). This is to show the importance of Operation Overlord, AKA, D-Day.
Because of D-Day, the allied powers won the war.
