A Semi-detailed Lesson Plan in English 7

I. Objectives

At the end of the lesson, the learner:

1. Identifies the five (5) types of sensory imagery.

2. Determines the sensory imagery used in the given statements.

II. Subject Matter

a. Topic: Sensory Images

b. Materials: Manila Paper

c. References: Internet, http://www.prezi.com

III. Procedures

A. Preliminary Activities

B. Motivation

The teacher will ask the students to look outside and ask the following questions:

1. What do you see outside?

2. What do you hear?

3. What senses do you use in order to see or hear those things?

The teacher then will start the lesson by showing a statement that uses sensory imagery. The
students will be asked what images they picture out while reading the statement.

 The golden yellow sunlight filtered down through the pale new leaves on the oak trees.

C. Activities

Sensory Imagery - is the collection of images that are created in your head from detailed
descriptions.

-are mental pictures created in the mind of the reader as he /she reads the statement.
Types:

1. Visual Imagery (sight) - appeals to the sense of seeing.

Ex. It was dark and dim in the forest.

2. Olfactory Imagery (smell) - appeals to the sense of smelling.

Ex. The aroma of brewed coffee filled the air.

3. Tactile Imagery (touch) - appeals to the sense of feeling.

Ex. The blind man touched the tree to learn if its skin was smooth or rough.

4. Auditory Imagery (sound) - appeals to the sense of hearing.

Ex. The stone fell with a splash in the lake.

5. Gustatory Imagery (taste) - appeals to the sense of taste.

Ex. The sweet taste of an apple.

D. Application

The teacher will present five (5) statements and ask for volunteers to identify what type of
sensory imagery is used in each statement.

1. Lions roaring in the jungle.

2. The sweet smell of jasmine.

3. Brilliant light begins to glow.

4. The tree bark was rough against her skin.

5. The juicy orange is very sweet.

E. Abstraction

-Sensory Imagery is the collection of images that are created in your head from detailed
descriptions.

-Types of sensory imagery include visual, olfactory, auditory, tactile, and gustatory imagery.

-Visual imagery appeals to the sense of seeing.

-Olfactory imagery appeals to the sense of smelling.

-Tactile imagery appeals to the sense of feeling.


-Auditory imagery appeals to the sense of hearing.

-Gustatory imagery appeals to the sense of taste.

IV. Assessment

Directions: Read and analyze the following statements. Identify the types of sensory imagery
being described. Choose your answer from the box. Write only the letter.
