Vide reference above (issued as RBE circulars), Railway board have issued Accepted
Recommendation of the High Power Committee to review the duty hours of Running staff. The
existing duty hours and revised duty hours recommended by High Power Committee & accepted
by Railway Board are as under.

“1+ Total duty at a stretch (from ‘sign on
to sign off’) for the Running staff
should not exceed 12 hours.
Total duty at a stretch (from ‘sign on to sign off’)
for the Running staff should not exceed 11 hours.
Running duty at a stretch should not
ordinarily exceed 10+2 hours.
Running duty at a stretch should not ordinarily
exceed 9+2 hours.
In case crew changing point is 1 hr |
away, the duty hrs can be extended
by Lhr. ie 10+2+1=13 hrs.
In case crew changing point is 1 hr away, the
duty hrs can be extended by 1 hr 9+2+1=12
hrs, but should not exceed 12 hrs.
For Mail/Exp. trains, duty hrs should
not exceed 10 hrs from sign ON to
sign OFF.
For Mail/Exp. trains, duty hrs should not exceed 8
hrs from departure to arrival.
HOrs rest is 16 hrs if working hours is
8 hrs and above. HQrs. Rest is 12 hrs
if working hours is below 8 hrs.
Subject to exigencies of service, HQrs. rest 16 hrs
irrespective of working hrs.
10 | There is no limit to maximum hrs of
running staff in a fortnight.
Subject to exigencies of service, a maximum limit
of 125 duty hours per fortnight should be laid |
down for all Running Staff. |
ii |The limit of stay away from Head
quarters or turnaround for running
staff should be fixed at 96 hours.
The limit of stay away from Head quarters or |

12 [Continuous night duty for Running
Staff should be limited to 6 nights.
Continuous night duty for Running Staff should be
limited to 4 nights with fourth night towards
headquarters.

There will be no change in the existing provisions
for periodical rest. However, preference should
be given to periodical rest for 4 periods of 30
consecutive hours.
It is requested to advise the concerned official for tt
same.
