Can Our Brain Cells Really Grow Back ?

As we age so does our brain therefore not being able to reproduce new neurons or brain cells .
We are effusive 1 that we can't generate new neurons for memory purposes to stay young. In
adult brains of 79 years of age there is no evidence that we are able to reproduce new neurons,
disgruntled 2 by the idea. There are new studies that can prove we in fact can reproduce new
brain cells, even in our “golden age” .

In the article “Hold Up, Maybe Our Brains Actually Can Grow back Neurons”(2018), Ed Cara
establishes in a study donated brains from ages of 14 - 79 were looked in the hippocampus.
These brains showed “new neurons are regularly born”. Cara vivaciously 3 states “They found
evidence of new neuron growth, or neurogenesis, in all the brains, as well as evidence of
angiogenesis, or the formation of new blood vessels.” Just because you're old doesn't mean
you have to be despondent 4 Cara proves this by stating “they also found that age doesn’t
seem to slow down this growth.” The fact that neurons reproduce no matter the age is not a
very mercurial 5 thing. Many studies have proved this is common and it does not matter the
age.
However some may have a different approach on the re-growth of neurons. The article “Sorry,
Adults, No New Neurons For Your Aging Brains” by Jon Hamilton states; they performed a
study in which he says “when we looked at the hippocampus we couldn't find the young
neurons there.” Hamilton’s didactic 6 tone demonstrates how his study proves there are no
new neurons for aging brains. Even though many believe this, Cara talks about many reasons
why a person may lack of neurons. Cara was quizzical 7 on the idea but her study shows a
person lacks neurons due to mental illnesses. Suicidal thoughts also cause the lack of neurons;
as well as depression. Cara states a study done to disprove this is jejune 8 ; declaring how
they were not using the whole hippocampus. The article zealously 9 expressed that our brains
while aging still reproduce new neurons. Depending if there was a disease in the brain most
hippocampuses aren't harmed and there is clear evidence of young neurons. Cara’s incisive 10

comment on the preservation of the brains proved you have to preserve the whole
hippocampus for 24 hours.
