ABSTRACT Objective: To estimate the frequency of depression and anxiety in patients with
End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) in hemodialysis. Materials and Methods: We carried out a
descriptive cross sectional study. The accessible population was 319 patients with ESRD in
hemodialysis from EsSalud. We conducted a non-randomized probabilistic sample, considering
an expected prevalence for anxiety of 52.3%, a confidence level of 95% and precision of 5%,
obtaining a sample of 175 patients. We used a data collection sheet that clinical included
demographic and clinic data. We used the Karnofsky Performance Status Scale and the scales
of Zung for anxiety and depression. Results: The median of age was 59 years (P25=51 years,
P75= 67 years). The 60% were male. We found a frequency of depression of 62,3%; mild:
83,5%, moderate: 14,7% and severe: 1,8%. The prevalence of anxiety was 69,7%; mild: 40,2%,
moderate: 26,2% and severe: 33,6%. Discussion: We found frequencies of depression and
anxiety higher than what has been reported in the literature. This could be explained because of
many of the symptoms that these scales evaluate are similar to the symptoms of end-stage
renal disease. It is therefore important to consider these psychiatric disorders in the
management of patients with ESRD.

Título: Estado nutricional y sobreviva de los pacientes dializados en el Hospital Nacional Almanzor
Aguinaga Asenjo, marzo-diciembre de 2012
Abstract Objective: To determine whether nutritional status is associated with survival of patients on
dialysis period 2007 - 2012. Materials and Methods: Target population: patients on dialysis between the
period 2007 to 2012; Study Design: Analytical - Retrospective Cohort. Followup time of 5 years (2007-
2012). Sample size: 276 people, simple random sampling. We used descriptive statistics and bivariate and
multivariate analyzes to measure association between Nutritional Status and Survival. Results: The mean
age was 63.33 years. 54.35% were male and 45.65% female. The most frequent comorbidity was diabetes
mellitus (31.52%). There were 53 deceased patients (19%). The 82.93% of patients with diabetes mellitus
died more organ damage. It was observed that survival for patients with diabetes mellitus more organ
damage compared to those not presented was 80% (P <0.001). In bivariate analysis showed that women
had a 65% increased risk of dying compared with men. In multivariate analysis, the significant variables
were sex, type of dialysis, organ damage mellitus (HR = 6.77), albumin (HR = 0.26) and urea (HR = 0.99)
diabetes; ie are independent factors for survival in the study. Conclusions: We found that poor nutritional
status albumin and cholesterol), female sex, hemodialysis and presence of diabetes mellitus more organ
damage are associated with a shorter survival demonstrated by multivariate analysis.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Malnutrition in the elderly is very common, causing impact on survival
and quality of life. Under specific conditions, the use of enteral feeding is necessary, with the
nasogastric tube (NGT) the device most commonly used for its physiological characteristics.
The objective of study was to determine the variation of the nutritional status of elderly patients
hospitalized user nasogastric tube. Materials and Methods: longitudinal observational
descriptive study; the universe is made up of elderly patients carriers of SNG in Neurology,
Geriatrics and Emergency services of Almanzor Aguinaga Asenjo Hospital in the period 2013 -
2014. A convenience sample of 176 patients was performed for convenience yield. Mini
Nutritional Assessment questionnaire was applied and further biochemical making the
admission and discharge data looking variations. Measures of central tendency, measures of
variability and standard deviation were calculated. Results: malnutrition at admission was found
in 44.3% and 77.8% high, ranging from 3.34 MNA points and also a variation of the average
figures in blood hemoglobin, albumin, triglycerides and cholesterol were 0.34 mg / dl, 0.34 mg /
dl, 1.35 mg / dl and 8.96 mg / dl respectively. Decrease was found in anthropometric values,
taking greater account in BMI and arm circumference. Conclusions: A significant variation in the
nutritional status of elderly hospitalized was found. The more variable anthropometric parameter
of MNA was BMI and arm circunference. Patients had a large percentage of hypoalbuminemia
and large variation of cholesterol and triglycerides during hospitalization and use of SNG.
