GRADE LEVEL QUARTER/DOMAIN DATE PAGE NO.

Seven Fourth February 27, 2018

At the end of the lesson, the learners are expected to:

I. OBJECTIVES
a. Identify and differentiate Control Set Up and Experimental Set Up.
A. Content Standards The learner demonstrates understanding of the integrated science process skills such as
describing relationships of variables in research, developing scientific questions, formulating
hypotheses which are needed in planning an experiment.
B. Performance Standard The learner should be able to design a simple science experiment using the identified
variables on a researchable problem.
C. Learning Competencies The learners should be able to:
(Write the LC code). a. Distinguish variables depending on their uses in planning a simple science
experiment. (SSP_RS7-IPS-II-h-i-10)
b. Design a simple science experiment (SSP-RS7-IPS-1I-I-14).
II. CONTENT DATA ORGANIZATION and PRESENTATION: REVISITED
III. LEARNING RESOURCES

B. Other Learning Resources Printed Materials, Manila Papers, Markers, Adhesive tapes
IV. PROCEDURES
(ELICIT)
 Start the preliminaries by leaning on the previous lesson:
A. Reviewing previous lesson a. From the last discussion, how would you define variables in an experiment?
or presenting the new lesson b. How will you define dependent, independent and control variables?
c. Why is there a need to control other variables?
 This time, we are going to identify the variations in the set ups for investigation.
B. Establishing a purpose for (ENGAGE)
the lesson  Explain to the learners the concept of fair test.
C. Presenting
 Post on the board an example of a problem in which the concept of a fair test can be
examples/instances of the new
observed.
lesson.
D. Discussing the new (EXPLORE)
concepts and practicing new GROUP WORK (Identification of Variables).
skills #1  Study and analyze a given situation.
 Have the class form 5 groups.
 Remind them of the distribution of work – leader, members and a presenter is required
for the presentation of responses later.
 Distribute the materials needed.
 Relay the instructions of the activity.
E. Discussing the new
concepts and practicing new General Instructions:
skills #2 a. You will be given a distinct problem/situation to analyze.
b. Your task is to discuss with group regarding the responses required for each problem.
c. You will be given 10 minutes to discuss and prepare for the reporting.
d. Reporting of the result will soon follow for 5 minutes.
e. Facilitate the checking of the presented results of the activity.

(EXPLAIN)
F. Developing mastery (Leads  At this point Control group and Experimental group will be defined.
to formative assessment 3) a. What is the importance of the experimental group?
b. Why is there a need for a control group?
G. Finding practical application (ELABORATE)
of concepts and skills in daily  Synthesize all responses into one general statement.
living  See to it that it is simple and is easy to understand and to remember.
H. Making generalization and  Go back to the previous responses during the reporting in order to correct any existing
abstraction about the lesson misconception regarding the set ups or groups.
(EVALUATION)
I. Evaluating learning  Short Quiz on Identifying Variables .
1. Indicate at least 3 types of data presentation tools. (Graphs, Charts, and tables).
2. Label in the parts for each type of data presentation tool.
3. Explain briefly the importance of proper representation of data in research.
J. Additional activities for (EXTEND)
application or remediation  Journal Entry
a. Highlight the importance of proper data gathering and presentation and its
relevance to research and to the community.

V. REMARKS
VI. REFLECTION
A. No. of learners who earned 80% in the evaluation
B. No. of learners who require additional activities for
remediation who scored below 80%
C. Did the remedial lesson worked? No. of learners
who have caught up with the lesson
D. No. of learners who continue to require remediation
E. Which of my teaching strategies worked well? Why
did this work?
F. What difficulties did I encounter which my principal
or supervisor can help me solve?
G. What innovation or localized material did I
use/discover which I wish to share with other teachers?

Directions: For the following experiments identify the variables and the control/experimental group.
1. Different rose bushes are grown in a greenhouse for two months. The number of flowers on each bush is
counted at the end of the experiment.

Dependent Responding Variable _________________________________
Constants _________________________________________________________
Control Group _____________________________________
Experimental Group _________________________________

2. You water three sunflower plants with salt water. Each plant receives a different concentration of salt solution. A
fourth plant receives pure water. After a two- week period, the height is measured.

3. Three redwood trees are kept at different humidity levels inside a greenhouse for 12 weeks. One tree is left
outside in normal conditions. Height of the tree is measured once a week.

4. Pea plant clones are given different amounts of water for a three-week period. Pea plant number one receives
400 milliliters a day. The second pea plant receives 200 milliliters a day. The third pea plant receives 100 milliliters
a day. The fourth pea plant does not receive any extra water; the plant only receives natural ways of receiving
water. The height of pea plants is recorded daily.

5. One tank of gold fish is fed the normal amount of food once a day, a second tank is fed twice a day, and a third
tank four times a day during a six week study. The mass of each fish is recorded daily.

6. You decide to clean the bathroom. You notice that the shower is covered in a strange green slime. You decide to
try to get rid of this slime by adding lemonade. You spray half of the shower with lemonade and spray the other
half of the shower with water. After 3 days of spraying equal amounts 3 times a day, there is no change in the
appearance of the green slime on either side of the shower.

7. You decide to clean your bedroom. You notice that your floor is covered with clothes. You decide to try to get rid
of the clothes by throwing the clothes into the air. You throw clothes from a 1/3 of the room into the closet and a
second 1/3 of the room straight up in the air. The last 1/3 of the room you leave the clothes on the floor. After 30
minutes of "cleaning", the floor of the room is now visible.

8. You want to test which size of soccer (football) ball is easiest to juggle with your feet. You test a size 3, size 4 and
a size 5 ball. You count the seconds the ball stays in the air for each of the trials. You allow yourself to use both of
your feet, knees, and head to juggle the ball.
