 Ensure adequate performance of all laboratory operations and procedures


 Initiate and monitor quality assurance programs for the laboratory; assure compliance with regulations
 Ensure the quality of service provided by laboratory departments meet the requirements of both internal
and external clients; ensure all internal and external requests are resolved and addressed
 Ensure Federal, State, and corporate standards, policies, and guidelines for the efficient management of the
laboratory are being followed
 Ensure quality control and compliance procedures are followed and QC reports are up to date
 Oversee, plan, and prepare for inspections in conjunction with Laboratory Supervisors
 Set department objectives and performance goals; monitors personnel and resource utilization on an
ongoing basis and makes adjustments in staffing to facilitate achievement of the goals and objectives
 Oversee in personnel management activities for laboratory departments and functional support groups;
selects and hires personnel; conduct and guide supervisors in selection interviews, hiring, motivation and
training staff
 Conduct and guide supervisors in performance appraisals, documenting deficiencies, developing plans for
improvement and counseling employees
 Monitor laboratory work performance to determine staff resources utilization; reviews monthly work
statistics and budget reports; establishes work performance standards and adjusts staffing levels as needed
 Evaluate and make determination on new laboratory equipment to stay abreast of new technology; assess
and selects vendors for material and services used by the department; evaluates various test methodology for
use in the laboratory departments
 Ensure that a safe working environment is maintained and that safe work practices are employed
 Maintains advanced knowledge of CAP/CLIA requirement and is knowledgeable with the specialty
requirements within those organizations for assigned discipline
 Accountable for the operation of a 24 hour function, including responding to emergencies, and attendance
at meetings outside of working hours as needed
 Develop and maintain finance aspects for laboratory departments; prepare, secure necessary approvals, and
manage operational and capital budgets; coordinates all purchases of supplies and capital equipment; direct
business practices to ensure timely, efficient, and accurate patient results; takes appropriate action to ensure
services are within budget guidelines

 Directly responsible for Anatomic Pathology, Flow Cytometry and Accessioning departments operation in

 Plan, coordinate, and direct day-to-day laboratory operation
 Establish and maintain Quality Management System (QMS) including Quality Assurance (QA), Quality

 Monitor laboratory log books, specimen accession sheets, workflow drafts to ensure quality assurance of
specimens
 Develop and maintain detailed laboratory procedures manuel to meet accreditation and licensing
requirements; ensures departmental SOP’s accurately reflects the current process; update SOP’s as needed

 Provide direct supervision of the laboratory operation and personnel performing high complexity testing
and reporting of test results by qualified technologists

including excess equipment management
