It is my radiant sentiment to place on record my best regards, deepest

sense of gratitude to Ar. Chona E. Ponce , Dean of College of Architecture and
the whole COA family for their careful and precious guidance which were
extremely valuable for my study.

My deepest gratitude is also expressed to Ar. Aristedes De Paz, NU-

INTRODUCTION

Transportation is a central functioning of the society. Social economic,

industrial, commercial progress transfers the society in to an organized one by
the transport system. It is one of the most essential services determining the
direction of the development of a municipality. A terminal is a desired
transportation balance , system to be efficient and as an organized facility in
the system of transportation.
The movement of the people and goods involves transportation. An
access point is needed in transport system. Terminals are the access points
known as fixed facilities . Any main mode of transportation, terminal is the main
component.

Allacapan is derived from the word “Alla-appan” which means a trap. It is

located on the northwestern part of the province of Cagayan. It is about 96 km
away from Tuguegarao City, the capital of the province and regional center for
institution and commerce. It is bounded on the North by the Municipalities of
Ballesteros and Western Aparri; on the East by the Municipalities of
Camalaniugan and Lallo; on the South by the Municipality of Lasam and on the
West by the Municipalities of Flora and Sta. Marcela, both from the Province of
Apayao. It has an area of 30, 680 hectares more or less with agricultural area
of 13, 383.32 hectares and 82.88 percent or 11091.80 hectares of which is
devoted to rice production. The locality is a third class municipality as per
income class and is composed of 27 barangays, with a total population of 32,
858 in a 7114 households (Actual data from the MHO based on BHW Census).
Ilocano is the prevailing local dialect in the locality though majority of its people
can speak Tagalog and English.

G.V. Florida Transport Corporation, one of the biggest bus company in

the nation is operating in the locality making mobility from Allacapan to Manila
and other major destinations possible for local and international travelers.
PUJs, like van, jeepneys, minibuses going to nearby towns and regions

regularly passes by along the National Highway traversing the municipality.
Those transport vehicles could be available from 3:00AM through 1:00AM of
the day at an irregular interval.

BACKGROUND OF THE PROBLEM

With the growing population of Allacapan and from the numbers of

biyaheros are increasing, the population of the public transportation also grows
as well as the human beings. The growth of PUV, PUJ and numerous tricycle
operators bounding through different barangays and municipality causes
unnecessary parking in the major streets, obstructions and unauthorized
terminals together with the buses passing by and stopping at one point like
pedestrians and major roads because the place is lacking of formal terminal.
These occurence causes traffic congestions, blockage of roads and noise
pollution.

With the use of natural elements, Landscaping serves as a noise barrier

and generate a natural comfort.

Aside from providing a terminal the LGU(Local Government Unit) are

planning to build a Commercial Complex according to the
CLUP(Comprehensive Land Use Plan) of Allacapan. It is going to be a center
of attraction and investments which is located at the Poblacion of the
Municipality.

HISTORY OF THE PROBLEM

The beginning of Allacapan is a village in the middle of a jungle. Its early

inhabitants were Negritoes. From this historical background, the municipality
did not expect the mass development because in the beginning, Negritoes were
the only ones who occupied the so called village they did not plan to have a
formal terminal because at first the transportation in the early 1941 were
carabaos and boats.

4
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

Since there is no terminal in the municipality , there is a difficulty in

getting a ride to a public vehicle. It is a major problem because it causes
inconvenience to passengers. The construction of the terminal is to give a
comfort and less waiting time for passengers, and to avoid obstructions on
major road networks.

The researcher aims to identify what are the innovative architecturel

approach that can be incorporated in the study entitled, Allacapan Integrated
Terminal.

This study aims to answer the following questions/issues:

1. What facilities are needed in order to embrace the economic efficiency

and effective security?

2. How will the terminal respond to the needs of people relative to

convenience?

3. How to provide an effective terminal that will help lessen the traffic
congestion and give comfort to its audiences?

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The findings of this study is that the people of Allacapan will be

provided a terminal that is convenient and more comfortable waiting
station of public vehicles.

OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY

To provide a main terminal for all kinds of public vehicles that can cater
the permanent and passersby vehicles and also to provide a formal and
descent terminal for the users particularly to passengers and drivers for their
own good and comfort.

5
PROJEC T OBJECTIVE

General

1. To improve the system of transportation in Allacapan

2. To create a terminal for the future development of
Allacapan
3. To provide a terminal because of the rapid growth of public
vehicles in Allacapan

Specific

1. To provide a terminal for people of Allacapan and create

better way of transporting from one place to another
2. To provide a more comfortable waiting station
3. To provide terminal for the convenience of its users

DESIGN OBJECTIVE

1. ACCESIBLE
2. COST-EFFECTIVE
3. PRODUCTIVE

DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS

PLANNING

1. NATURAL LIGHTING AND VENTILATION

- To lessen the use of electric energy
2. ARBOREALS
- Serves as noise and sun buffer
3. SIDEWALKS
- A walkable access to the users

AESTHETICS

1. AESTHETIC VALUE
2. FORM AND CHARACTER
3. LANDSCAPE FEATURES

ACCESSIBILITY

1. RAMPS
2. SIDEWALKS
3. DRIVEWAYS
6
SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS

This research/ study focuses only on the development, characteristics

and improvement of the transportation system in Allacapan, Cagayan. This
includes the modernization of certain key features such as vehicular flow and
landscape features. The study will also covers the sustainability of the study
through applying new innovative technology in architectural design,
incorporating the suitable renewable local materials in the construction and the
strategies to make the project feasible to its setting and theme.
