JUNE 2018 HIRING PACKAGE

The Vancouver School of Economics Undergraduate Society (VSEUS) represents Economics


Major and Bachelor of International Economics students enrolled in the Vancouver School of
Economics (VSE). Our mission is to enhance the student experience within the VSE by
supporting student initiatives, providing services and events, and expressing the interests of
Economics students to the governing bodies within UBC. Our service pillars are academic
success, career preparedness, community connections and student advocacy.

We are currently hiring for the 2018-2019 academic year and look forward to your application.
Multiple applicants may be hired for each of the available positions.

Associate Vice-President Student Life

Portfolio: Student Life


Time Commitment: Up to 10 hours per week
Length of Term: June 2018 – April 2019

The AVP Student Life assists the VP Student Life in organizing a variety of social
events for Economics students and faculty to build connections. The AVP Student Life
is involved in all aspects of event planning and execution. Examples of past events
include: B.A. Pin Ceremony, BIE Blue Day, Dinner with Professors, Trivia Pub Nights,
REC Team Sponsorships, Econ Week activities and the Year-End Gala.

Additional Requirement: please submit a short proposal (max. 100 words) for an event
or initiative that you believe would improve student life.

Duties and responsibilities:


• Plan and contribute ideas for all events
• Coordinate event logistics (ex. room booking, catering, licensing)
• Supervise and attend events
• Help market events on social media
• Attend regular meetings (times will be decided upon hiring)

Qualifications:
• Demonstrate energy and enthusiasm
• Ability to work in a team and individually
• Ability to problem solve
• Ability to communicate formally with external parties
• Ability to commit 10 hours a week, or more when required especially before an
event

Marketing and Communications Director

Portfolio: External*
Time Commitment: 5 – 10 hours per week
Length of Term: June 2018 – September 2018, with possibility of extension

The Marketing and Communications Director will be managing all promotional aspects
of VSEUS events and initiatives over the summer. Projects and initiatives include:
ECON Week, Welcome Back Event, Blue Day (BIE Orientation Event), merchandise
sale, and Fall Elections. Your aim is to raise the profile of VSEUS among Economics
students, increase student engagement and improve event attendance.

Additional Requirement: If available, please attach an example of a portfolio/poster or


other marketing material you have been involved in creating.

Duties and Responsibilities:


● Produce high-quality, engaging multimedia material that fosters community
among Economics students and enticing attendance and participation in VSEUS
initiatives
● Work with VP Admin, VP Student Life, and VP Finance to coordinate the
marketing strategy for upcoming VSEUS initiatives
● Help in the creation and promotion of new VSEUS merchandise
● Assist with event and merchandise promotional photography and videography

Qualifications:
● Creativity and good visual eye
● Responsible, organized, and punctual
● Possess effective and engaging written and verbal communication skills
● Able to work independently in a timely manner
● Be comfortable utilizing various social media platforms including Facebook,
Instagram, Twitter, YouTube in a professional manner

Assets:
● Previous marketing and communications experience
● Understanding of the Economics student demographics and interests
● Experience with photography/videography
● Knowledge of the Adobe suite or other graphic design software

*You will work alongside the VP Finance over the summer term.
Sponsorship Director

Portfolio: External*
Time Commitment: 5 – 10 hours per week
Length of Term: June 2018 – September 2018, with possibility of extension

As the Sponsorship Director, you will be responsible for pursuing external funding
opportunities for VSEUS. This includes liaising with industry and academic
professionals to actively seek sponsorship partners. The Sponsorship Director also
assists other members of the VSEUS Executive Board in coordinating event
sponsorships.

Duties:
● Actively seek out and develop new partnerships between VSEUS and other
organizations
● Network with various corporations and organizations, on- and off-campus
● Responsible for working with various VSEUS portfolios seeking out sponsorship
for specific events within VSEUS
● Work alongside VSEUS executive to develop financial and non-financial
partnerships with third-parties
● Work with the VP Finance on developing sponsorship packages

Qualifications:
● Strong communication and interpersonal skills
● Organized, responsible and punctual
● Comfortable engaging in networking activities and reaching out to new
organizations in a professional manner
● Experience working with corporations and/or student government
● Able to work independently in a timely manner

Assets:
● Experience seeking sponsorships and partnerships
● Familiarity with VSEUS organizational structure
● Knowledge of corporations and organizations interested in partnerships with
student

Associate Vice-President Academic

Portfolio: Academic
Time Commitment: 5 hours per week
Length of term: June 2018 - April 2019

The AVP Academic will work closely with the VP Academic in conceptualizing,
organizing and managing key VSEUS events and programs such as the Talkonomics
Series and other VSEUS programs.

● Be a UBC Student with an interest in Economics
● Preferably 2nd and 3rd year standing
Associate Vice-President Administration

Portfolio: Administration
Time Commitment: 5-10 hours per week
Length of term: June 2018 - April 2019

The AVP Administration assists the VP Administration in overseeing the Administration


portfolio, with particular focus on liaising with the VSEUS recognized clubs and HR. In
addition the AVP Administration will be responsible for organizing weekly VSEUS
executive team meetings and bi-weekly VSEUS council meetings. In this role, the AVP
Administration will develop strong relationships with other student leaders and strong
organizational skills. Depending on performance, the AVP Administration may be
allowed to take on their own VSEUS project.

Duties and Responsibilities:


● Organize weekly VSEUS meetings
● Attend VSEUS recognized club meetings
● Liaise between VSEUS and VSEUS recognized clubs
● Develop and implement VSEUS onboarding package for new VSEUS staff
● Attend regular meetings with VP Administration

Qualifications:
● Excellent time management and organizational skills
● Possess effective and professional written and verbal communication skills
● Able to work independently in a timely manner
● Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills

Assets:
● Understanding of VSEUS operating structure
● Experience in a leadership role within another student organization
VSEUS Student Lounge Project Manager

Portfolio: Administration
Time Commitment: 5-10 hours per week
Length of Term: June 2018 – April 2019

The VSEUS Student Lounge Project Manager will be responsible for envisioning,
developing and implementing the VSEUS Student Lounge expansion project. The goal
for this person will be to create an inviting space for all VSEUS members to come
study, socialize or relax. Ultimately, the goal will be to increase VSEUS’ presence in
the Iona building and within the undergraduate Economics community at UBC and
drive more constituent engagement.

Duties and Responsibilities:


● Develop a plan for the expansion of the VSEUS student lounge
● Liaise with VSE building staff to ensure feasibility of expansion
● Develop an implementation plan for the project
● Work with Finance team to ensure adequate funding for the project
● Conditional on executive approval: implement the project throughout the
2018-2019 academic year

Qualifications:
● Excellent time management and organizational skills
● Possess effective and professional written and verbal communication skills
● Able to work independently in a timely manner
● Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills
● Preference given to current VSEUS members

Assets:
● Experience designing student spaces and engaging student community
● Be located in Greater Vancouver during June - August 2018
Assistant to the President

Portfolio: President
Time Commitment: 5-10 hours per week
Length of Term: June 2018 - August 2018, with possibility of extension

The Assistant to the President will work directly with the President, assisting with
day-to-day administrative support, project management, and the overall operations of
VSEUS. This position will stretch your leadership and communication skills, as well as
provide ample opportunity to work with the President to propose, design, and
implement high-impact projects.

● Conduct due diligence for ad-hoc special projects
● Assist with producing reports, presentations, and briefs
● Attend meetings with or on behalf of the President
● Act as point of contact and handle inquiries between VSEUS and its UBC
stakeholders
● Manage the President’s business correspondence
● Support other portfolios/committees with planning and execution of VSEUS
initiatives

Qualifications:
● Be located in Greater Vancouver during June-August 2018
● Demonstrated curiosity and willingness to learn
● Ability to communicate in a professional and timely manner
● Ability to think creatively and proactively voice ideas/opinions
● Strong organizational and note-taking skills
