Lesson plan for family for elementary school

Objectives: Student will learn family vocabulary through games and pictures.

Materials: Pictures of people; pictures of the teacher’s family.

Procedures;
I. Warm- up and present the new vocabulary:
Show the pictures of the teacher’s family and describe the pictures in Chinese.
Show pictures that represent a father, mother, grandfather, grandmother, son, daughter
while modeling the vocabulary in Chinese that represent each picture. Review several
times.
II. Activities:
1. TPR
Place the family pictures on the chalkboard. Demonstrate the meaning of the
Chinese command word “ zhi chu” --- show. For example, say “ zhi chu baba” and
show the picture of father. Model the “zhi chu “ command with the remaining family
members.
Ask a pair of students to come to the front of the room and point to the family
members according to the command given by the teacher. Continue practicing the
family members until all children have had a turn to identify the family members.
2. Charades
The teacher says one of the family vocabulary and does an appropriate action to
represent the vocabulary. For example: mow the lawn for dad, jump rope for the
daughter, etc. Let the students guess the word and say the word in Chinese.
The students do the actions and get the rest students to guess the word and say the
word in Chinese.
The teacher says the family vocabulary in Chinese and get the students do the action
and repeat the Chinese.

3. Yes- No questions – dui or cuo


The teacher calls six students to the front of the room and gives each student one of
the pictures of the family members. The teacher points to one of the pictures a child
is holding and asks “ _______ ( family member in Chinese)? Dui ma? ( Yes or no).
If the statement is true, the students respond with “dui”. If the statement is false the
students respond with “ cuo”. Continue until all students have had a turn.
4. Either-or questions – shi…hai shi…
The teacher holds up one of the family members and asks an either-or question
regarding what the picture represents. The students answer with appropriate family
member word. For example: The teacher holds up the picture of grandmother and
asks, “ shi nainai haishi mama?” ( Is it grandmother or mother?) The students should
answer with “ nainai.”
5. Single word answers
The teacher calls six students to the front of the room and gives each student one of
the family members.
The teacher asks “__________(family member in Chinese)?” The students answer
with the name of the student who is holding the appropriate family pictures. The
student who is holding the picture should repeat the word. Continue practicing until
all students have had a chance to participate.
