TOURISM COMMUNITY
Indonesia is a country with the largest Muslim population in the world. Politically,
Indonesia is a stable democracy, with high economic growth in the last decade.
The current number of Muslim inhabitants in Indonesia is estimated more than 230
million individuals and about one million of them perform Umra to Saudi Arabia
every year. This fact places Indonesia as the second country that sending Umra
pilgrims in the last 1438 H Umra season. When the hajj season arrives, as the country
with the largest Muslim population, Indonesia also gets the largest hajj quota from
the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. More than 220 thousand hajj pilgrims has departed to
the holy land in this 2017 season.

The above facts encourage the Muslim tourism industry to thrive in Indonesia. More
than 900 travel agencies handling Umra hajj pilgrims and Muslim tours have received
official license from the Ministry of Religious Affairs. This is the potential market that
needs to be considered for your business development.

It is logical that entrepreneurs in the field related to Hajj, Umrah and Muslim tourism
develop their business in Indonesia. One of the most effective way to enter that
market is by participating in the ISLAMIC TOURISM EXPO (ITE) 2018. ITE 2018 is one
of the biggest event in the world for the category of Hajj, Umra and Muslim tourism
exhibition. This year’s ITE 2018 will be held in Jakarta, the capital of the Republic of

WHY MAKASSAR
Makassar is the provincial capital of South Sulawesi, Indonesia. Because of its
strategic location, Makassar is also known as gateway to Eastern part of Indonesia.
Makassar Airport serve as an important airline hub, connecting Sumatra, Java, Bali
and Kalimantan in the west and with Sulawesi, the Moluccas and Papua in the east.

Makassar port also serves as logistic distribution center to the thousand of remote
islands in eastern archipelago. This role, make Makassar port as the busiest port in
Indonesia, after Jakarta and Surabaya. Nowadays Makassar is a bustling cosmopolitant
town with a lot of industrial complex to support the development of another provinces.

In hajj and umrah sector, Makassar or South Sulawesi province in general, is a very
potential market. Currently the South Sulawesi province held as the longest province
with a maximum waiting time of Hajj in Indonesia, with an average waiting time of
40 years, compared to Jakarta which is only 14 years old. In umrah sector, Makassar
was one of the largest suppliers of umrah pilgrim. Therefore, some airlines such as
Garuda Indonesia, Saudia Airlines, Citilink and Lion Air, providing a direct flight from
Makassar to Jeddah.

The event is expected to attract more than 10,000 visitors and
buyers, gain more business, showcase best packages and products
and be one of the major Islamic Tourism and Consumer Expo in
Indonesia.

 VENUE INFORMATION
The chosen exhibition venue is Grand Clarion Hotel and Convention Makassar (formerly known Clarion Makassar Hotel) which is one of the best
Hotels in Makassar city center. Located on Jalan Andi Pangeran Pettarani, which is a very bustling part of the city. This strategic position, makes
Grand Clarion easy to reach from all parts of the city.

The building of the hotel is perhaps the tallest in the eastern part of Indonesia. Convention room in this hotel is also one of the biggest venue in
the city, with capacity of 3000 persons.
