“It was really humbling that the Orioles would think high enough of me to (let me) take on
this role,” said Britton, who becomes the youngest manager in the Orioles minor league
system. “There’s big-leaguers that are playing out there on the field. They’re not a finished
product, but for (the Orioles) to have confidence in me to do this, it’s a pretty special feel-
ing.”
Britton made the transition from player to coach last season. As the Shorebirds’ hitting
coach in 2017, he oversaw the development of SAL All-Stars Jake Ring and Chris Clare and
helped Preston Palmeiro to a top-five finish in the league RBI race.
The Orioles drafted Britton, elder brother of O’s closer Zach, in the 35th round of the 2008
MLB Draft. Buck played nine seasons in the minor leagues, including seven in the Orioles
system, batting .270 over 828 career games. He spent parts of six seasons in Triple-A, in-
Year Team Record cluding four with the Norfolk Tides and one each with Oklahoma City (LAD) and Rochester
2018 Delmarva Shorebirds 32-27 (MIN). Britton played three games for the Shorebirds in 2009, his only stint in Delmarva.
A native of Panorama City, CA, Britton graduated from Weatherford High School (TX) and
Managerial Record: 32-27 attended Lubbock Christian University (TX). He currently lives in Florida near the Orioles’
Shorebirds Record: 32-27 Spring Training complex in Sarasota with his wife Silvana.
JUSTIN LORD, PITCHING COACH Justin Lord, 38, returns to the Shorebirds for his second straight season (third overall) as
pitching coach. Lord is now in his sixth season in the Orioles system.
In 2017, Lord helped develop Jim Palmer Minor League Pitcher of the Year Alex Wells, who
went 11-5 with a SAL-best 2.38 ERA and 0.91 WHIP, as well as SAL innings champion Lucas
Humpal (150.0 IP). During his first season in Delmarva in 2013, he oversaw current Oriole
reliever Mychael Givens’ transition from position player to pitcher.
Lord enjoyed a six-year career in professional baseball, playing in the Kansas City (2001-03)
and Pittsburgh (2004) organizations before a three-year stint with independent St. Paul
Saints (2006-08). Lord led the Saints with 11 wins in 2006 and helped St. Paul make back-to-
back American Association championship series in 2006 and 2007.
Originally from Dothan, AL, Lord was all-state for Marianna High School (FL) in 1998. In
2001 he saved 11 games at Florida State, ninth-most in Division I.

BOBBY ROSE, HITTING COACH Bobby Rose, 51, enters his first season as Shorebirds hitting coach. This will be Rose’s first
season in the Orioles system after spending the last five years as a hitting coach for various
Texas Rangers affiliates. In 2017 served on staff with the High-A Down East Wood Ducks, fol-
lowing stints in Spokane (2013), Hickory (2014), and High Desert (2015-16).
Rose played professionally for 15 years, including seven in the California Angels system
(1985-92), seeing action in 73 major league games over four seasons. After his release from
the Angels in 1992, he signed with the Yokohama BayStars in Japan and made a name for
himself as one of the greatest foreign players in the history of Nippon Professional Baseball.
Rose batted .325 with a .933 OPS over eight seasons (1993-2000) with the BayStars, earning
four Central League All-Star nods and six postseason Best Nine Awards at second base.
In 1998, Rose helped lead Yokohama to its first Japan Series championship since 1960. The
next year, he won the Central League batting title, hitting .369 with 37 home runs and 153
RBIs. Rose’s three career cycles are most in Japanese history.
