UNIT SPECIFICATIONS

a.

Frame and Body - Integral

Body and frame integral constructed of formed No. 12 Ga. steel ID!lin frame members of 3/811 plate-formed to 1211 x 3/8" X 4-3/811 (6) crossmembers of struotural steel ohannels 211 x 1" x 3/1611, crossmembers 2" x l/el1 x 8" ..

panels with angle and (2) formed

Flooring consists of 1/8 x 48" 4-way steel plate with smooth steel side plates flanged to provide guides for tires of searchlight. A steel deck forward of front bulkhead provides mounting for winch as well ~s means of locking the tilting frame to the draw bar arms.

Tarpaulin bow pockets are an integral part of a longitudinal member which is welded to the top of the side panels.

Front bulkhead i 6 of No. 10 Ga. steel and braced at rear with 3" structural steel channels, hinged doors in bulkhead provide access to turnbuckles which fasten searchlight to trailer. Frame side panels have (1) door at left front and (1) door at eaoh rear side for access to battery and tool compartment.

Rear side doors are equipped with padlocks.

Welded construction is used throughout. A removable No. 14 Ga. steel pan covers the bottom of all crossmembers.

b. Draw Bar

Draw bar anns constructed of 411 structural steel channels hinged at rear to permit tilting of frame without uncoupling from prima mover. Draw bar tongue is adjustable for height. and can be used with prime movers having either a pintle hook or a ball hitch. The draw bar arms have welded brackets which connect to the frame front deck by means of removable pins; to permit tilting of frame for loading and unloading of equipment. Draw bar is equipped with an adjustable rubber tired caster wheel to suppor:t front end when uncoupled from prime mover. This caster wheel i"a also hinged so that it may be.raised to permit operation of trailer over rough ground.

c. Tailgate

Tubular steel~ diagonally braced with 4-way steel runways for searohlight tires. All welded oonstruction, hinged at bottom to provide ramp for

c. loading of equipment. Fastened at each end at top with removable lock ing pins.

d. Underconstruotion

Rocker arm type, parallel to main frame members. Vfueel spindles are integrally fastened to rocker arms which are mounted on roller type bearings. The bearings are mounted on a sliding bracket for vertical movement. Ends of rocker arms are held to frame by guides and are fitted with wear plates. Shackleless springs having extra load ple.tes contact main frame members. A heavy metal guard below spring acts as a skid to protect spring.

Shock absorbers are mounted on eaoh end of eaoh rocker arm and are double acting hydraulic type.

e. Wheels

6-studJ 20-inch ventilated disc wheel mounted singly in tandem. Cast hubs mounted on tapered roller bearings on axle spindle.

f. Tires

(4) 7.50 x 20 - 8-Ply tires with mud and snow grip type tread-equipped with heavy duty tube. Reoommended tite infla.tion= 50 pounds.

g. Brakes

14 x 2" Electric Brake s on all 4-wheels with emergency breakaway feature s are controllable from cab of prime mover.

Mechanical hand parking brakes are operated by means of a hand wheel located on trailer front deck. Hand wheel operates a cross shaft connecting to brakes by means of rods and cables directly to mechanically operated brake shoe s •

Dry type battery is supplied for operation of breakaway feature.

h. Canvas Cover and Bows

Removable bows and canvas cover completely enclose body of trailer. The bows (5) in number are fastened to pockets with (2) .removable bolts on each end of bow.

The cover consists of front, side and rear ourtain and are fastened to bows with straps for side curtain, and with ropes for front and rear curtain. Ropes on all body curtains are furnished for fastening to body.

i. Wiring and Electrical Equipment.

(2) Blackout marker lights on sides at front. (2) Amber marker lights on sides at front. Also amber refleotors on front and sides at front. Red refleotors on rear are furnished both at sides and rear. Two Blackout

i. stop and tail lights# and one commercial stop and tail light. Jumper cordI Blaokout switoh~ and safety switoh for breakaway feature are also furnished.

All wiring is encased in flexible metallic oable except jumper cord.

Junction boxes are provided for connecting cables.

j. Miscellaneous

Complete set of tools provided for all necessary adjustments.

Rand operating winoh with chain fastened to frame front deck and is used for loading of equipment.

(4) Corner jacks f'a sbe ned , (1) to each oorner of frame. Used for stabilizing of unit during operation of searohlight equipment. Jacks adjustable through means of hand crank extending through top of side wall.
