We are delighted to welcome you today. If babies & toddlers
are with you, we have excellent care available in our Nursery.
Children attend Sunday Clubs (Ask Ushers for directions).
Know that wherever you are on your spiritual journey, you
are warmly invited to share Holy Communion. Please sign
our clipboard and take a newcomer’s packet from the entry.

Lectio Divina: Thursdays at 6:30 p.m.

Our Lectio Divina group meets at 6:30 p.m. in the
church. A simple supper follows in the Parish Hall.
Fall Kick-Off BBQ
Sunday, September 12th, after the 10 a.m. service
Join us for a BBQ after the 10 a.m. service to welcome
everyone back from the summer, mark the beginning of
the fall ministry program, and help us get in gear for the
final stage of the St. James transition to the arrival and
ministry of the new rector. All are welcome!
Farewell to Sidrah Gibbs, our Youth
Minister: September 12th. Many of our St. James
children have been kept involved in church activities
through the diligent and caring ministry of Sidrah Gibbs.
Unfortunately, people have to move on with their lives
and Sidrah’s journey forces her to devote her time and
talents to other endeavors so her time as a Youth Ministry
at St. James will come to an end with the beginning of
this school year. If you are a family or young person who
has been touched by Sidrah’s ministry come to St. James
on September 12th to say goodbye and thank you; If you
weren’t directly touched by Sidrah’s ministry come to St.
James on September 12th to get a little taste of what you
missed and say goodbye and thank you.
Recognition of the Rector Search
Committee: Sunday, September 19th
Join us during the 10 a.m service and afterwards at coffee
hour to thank the Rector Search Committee for all their
hard work, integrity, and love for St. James.
Trick or Treat for UNICEF
Please support our St. James children in caring for other
children around the world. We will be Trick or Treating
for UNICEF on Sunday, October 31st during the 10
a.m. service coffee hour. Please bring your coins and bills
to give: for immunizations, clean water, and life saving
nutrition. Blessings to all children!
NOMA Area Ministry Meeting
Saturday, September 25th, 8 a.m. - 10 a.m.
Interested in how the church can make an impact for
change in our communities and city? Interested in
community organizing as a tool for ministry? Come
and join us as we learn to do this in the north of Market
Street area (NOMA) in collaboration with our neighbor
churches and organizations. Help us build a grace-
filled and powerful ministry of the church to our wider
community. Parking is available at George Peabody
School Yard on 7th Avenue, between California St. and

New Rector of The Episcopal Church
of Our Saviour, Oakland

Rector of the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour (1011

Pastoral Care
Please let the St. James office know if you, or a family
member, has a hospitalization or surgery. We would love
to visit, bring a meal and communion, as desired.
HELPING HANDS NEEDED AT MARTIN DE
PORRES: Each second Sunday of the month a team
from St. James helps prepare a nutritious meal for several
hundred people at St. Martin de Porres. In the midst
of this difficult economy, we are seeing more and more
guests each month. We could really use some extra
helpers. To volunteer, or if you have any questions, call
Ted Ira at (415) 831-8678.
ElderWISE
The ElderWISE program of Episcopal Senior
Communities provides volunteer visitors to elders living
at home, who can no longer access community services. A
compassionate presence in the life of one who is isolated
and alone can make a difference. Our volunteers receive
extensive training in interpersonal and listening skills
and ongoing support. If you know of an elder who would
benefit from this service, or to volunteer, please contact
ESC at (415) 668-1823.
