Observing a student

6 May 2017

During the time I chose to observe a student, the instructions were to work on their rough

drafts of a project they have been working on for some time. They had to make sure that they

checked grammar, organization, spelling, etc. At the time I chose to observe a student, the rest of

the class had broken up into their assigned groups and were allowed to sit wherever they liked.

They could sit at the tables as a group, the center of the room or on the carpets she has

designated as a sitting area by the smart board and another in between the computers and hangers

area.

The student I chose was finished with that and the rest of his group was absent. When I

talked with Mrs. Elliot, she said that it was common for him to finish his work before the other

students. While I was observing him, he kept to himself and didn't move from his seat, only to

get a book. He didn’t interact with his classmates around him or even acknowledge them. I think

it was because he was working on his own project of writing his own story, which is what he

often does when he is one of the first ones done.
