Spring 18 Release Summary - Einstein Analytics

1. Converse with Data - Ask data questions using non-technical language, and view answers in automatically
configured charts
- To enable the feature, go to the Analytics Settings page in Setup, and select Enable Conversational
Exploration (Beta)
- Start a conversation by clicking . When you click the text box, you’re prompted with suggestions based
on the fields in your dataset(s).

2. New User interface to create charts - Just tell the chart builder which field to use for each chart feature—like
which field should appear on the horizontal axis.
Eg: when you create a matrix chart, pick a dimension for each axis and the measures that determine the
bubble size and color. To save a little time, drag and drop fields within the panel to move them from one
section to another or change their order within a section.

- In explorer, you can change a chart to any chart type—no more chart types grayed out because they
require a different number of measures and groupings. If the new chart type requires more fields, the
interface lets you know. If the new chart doesn’t require some of the currently selected fields, the chart
builder moves them to the Additional Fields section.
3. Add in Lens Filters - instead of adding same filters for each column for a compare table, add overall Lens
Filters for the dataset.

4. Compare Table Formulas and Functions - You can reference measure and group columns by name instead
of by reference letter. You can also use SAQL percentile functions in the formula editor. The SAQL functions
percentile_disc() and percentile_cont() are available in the compare-table formula editor, as are SAQL date
functions.

5. Add images to Tables

6. Column Properties
- Properties can be set for individual columns
- set measure column’s data type as bar
- For columns with text, you can specify text alignment and style.

7. Limit query results from the UI, instead of SAQL

8. Improved Interface for Exploring

- The View History panel includes a thumbnail preview of the actions that you’ve taken in the lens—with the
latest actions displayed on the top
- The interface displays the name of the dataset you are currently exploring
- Can access the dataset fields from right next to the dataset name
- Create and delete derived measures and derived dimensions directly from the dataset fields panel. You
can also apply formats to the derived measures from here.

9. Save your own view of the Dashboard - save pre-selected filters and share your view with others

10. Time bar and Timeline Combo - a great way to illustrate relative changes over time and highlight missing
data.
- The new time bar chart works like the timeline, showing values of a single measure over time in vertical
bars.
- The new time combo chart shows two measures over time—one on a timeline and the other on a time bar.

11. Annotate Data Points with Tooltips and Markers - Create a tooltip to specify which details appear when you
hover over any data point. To annotate a specific data point, add a marker and, if it needs more attention,
make it blink.

12. Cumulative Charts when data is missing – Instead of misleading the data points new options available:
- Show as gaps
- Ignore, show continuous line
- Use prior values
- Use prior values – trimmed

13. Other Enhancements:

a) Sort Measures differently on a chart - To sort measures differently, click a measure axis title in a chart.
This feature applies to all charts with measure axes, except scatterplot or charts that also have a time axis.
b) Add context to image and text widgets by adding tooltips.
c) Previously, if you ran a query in the SAQL editor and switched back to chart mode, the measures and
groupings became read-only. This behavior no longer occurs. You can now edit the measures or groupings.
Filters remain read-only.
d) When you change a chart type, watch the chart morph.
e) Wave dashboard designer is now called “dashboard designer.”

14. Dataflow Editor Changes:

a) Rename Nodes - Click the node and change its name along with all its other attributes. When you rename
a node, Analytics validates that the new name is unique. It also changes the name in dependent
downstream nodes for you.

b) Propagate Field Changes - When you add or remove a field in an existing node, Analytics offers to
propagate the change to where it might be needed in downstream nodes. You see the propagate option
whenever you add or remove fields from these types of nodes:
sfdcDigest, digest, augment, computeExpression, computeRelative, sliceDataset

c) Override Field Attributes in sfdcDigest Nodes - Change attributes, such as field type, default value, and
precision, inside the dataflow editor. No more manual editing of the dataflow definition file to make these
changes.
To override a field’s attributes, just click the next to it. Make your changes, click Save.

d) Run the Datflow directly from the Dataflow Editor

15. Include the Views Menu with Embedded dashboards - With the Views menu, embedded dashboards give
users the chance to set up dashboard filters and selections and save the views they want. The Views menu
is now part of the dashboard header, whether embedded through Visualforce, Page Layouts, Lightning App
Builder, or Communities Builder.

16. Data Prep with Recipe Enhancements:

a) Let more people create Recipes: Introduced a new user permission, Edit Dataset Recipes. Users with the
Edit Dataset Recipes permission can access the data manager, just like Edit Analytics Dataflows users, but
can’t access these areas:
- Dataflow View on the Monitor tab
- Dataflows subtab on the Dataflows & Recipes tab
- Replicated Datasets subtab on the Datasets tab
- Setup tab
b) Run and Schedule Recipes from the Recipes List
c) See what Dataset the recipe is based on - To see which dataset or replication a recipe is based on, click
the Show Recipe Metadata button

17. Better view of Datasets in the Data Manager - added search, sorting, and more metadata columns to the
dataset list view
