Precautions for use of the instrument

This instrument is intended to be used by doctors and other qualified persons for performing
tomography and hemodynamics diagnosis of blood flow in the human body. This instrument
cannot be used for performing ultrasound examination of the eyes. The acoustic power from
this instrument exceeds the upper ophthalmologic limit indicated in the U.S. FDA standards.

Precautions concerning the use and management of this instrument

• Operation for diagnostic purpose is limited to doctors and qualified persons.
• Scan for the minimum length of time necessary for the diagnosis, and at the lowest possible
output.
For more details on acoustic output, refer to the separate “Acoustic Output Data”.
• Do not disassemble, repair, or modify the instrument or its optional equipment without our
permission. Repair of the instrument will be carried out by our certified personnel. Please
contact our office.
NOTE: Disassembly means the use of tools to remove the casing or other parts.
NOTE: Modification means attachment of parts or devices to this instrument other than those specified
by the manufacturer. Replacement of a power cable counts as modification.
• If any abnormality occurred during the use of the instrument, remove the probe from the
patient immediately, and stop using it. Provide appropriate medical treatments immediately
if the patient's condition is abnormal. Refer to “Instructions for Use” before using the
instrument. Be sure to contact our office if the abnormality is not described in “Instructions
for Use”.

Precautions on instrument installation

This instrument is medical electrical equipment intended for use in hospitals, research institutions
and similar facilities. Install this instrument as described in the items below. Refer to the
“Instructions for Use” for details.
• Installation of the instrument and any optional equipment (mounting and connecting with
tools) will be performed by our certified partners. Please contact our office.
• Connect only the equipment specified in the “Instructions for Use” to the instrument.
• Transportation (moving the product on a vehicle, ship etc.) of the instrument will be carried
out by our certified partners. Please contact our office.
• Make sure the environment meets the following condition.

Environmental Storage environment/

conditions Operating environment transport environment
Temperature 10°C to 40°C -10°C to 50°C

• Install in a flat area with adequate strength and little vibration. Do not install on unstable or
inclined surfaces. Avoid areas where there is water or other fluid, areas with large amounts
of salt or sulfur, and areas in direct sunlight.
• Do not sit or lean on the instrument.
• Allow the instrument to acclimatize when moved to a location with a drastically different
temperature.
• When adjusting the inclination of the back end unit or the positioning, take care to avoid
getting your fingers trapped in unexpected locations.
• Adjust the position and orientation of the back end unit keeping a sufficient distance
between the instrument and surrounding equipment, walls and people.
• Warn doctors, patients, and others in the area before adjusting the position and orientation
of the back end unit.
• Install the instrument in the environment where electromagnetic compatibility can be
maintained in accordance with Precautions for Maintaining Electromagnetic Compatibility
and Guidelines for Electromagnetic Compatibility in the “Instructions for Use”.
NOTE: Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) means that the instrument can maintain basic
performance and safety within the specified electromagnetic environment, without causing
electromagnetic interference that cannot be tolerated by other devices in that environment.
• After moving the instrument, go through the “Inspections and Verifications Prior to
Powering up” from the “Instructions for Use”.

Precautions for use in conjunction with drugs

• If you perform an ultrasound examination after having the patient ingest a general
pharmaceutical, the ultrasound may affect the pharmacological effect of the
pharmaceutical. Before using a general pharmaceutical, carefully read the accompanying
documents for using the pharmaceutical.
• When using an ultrasound contrast agent, use a medium that has been approved for the
purpose. Refer to the accompanying documents for the ultrasound contrast agent for
information about its handling, storage, and disposal.

When using ultrasound contrast agents during examinations, always pay

constant attention to the patient's condition.
In a perfusion examination using ultrasound contrast agent, the pulse rhythm of the
heart may be disturbed even if the mechanical index (MI) is within the standard
value. Handle the ultrasound contrast medium as described in its documentation.

4 MN1-6166 rev.3
Precautions on combined use of equipment
• Medical electrical equipment must be compliant with IEC60601-1, and must be able to be
used in conjunction with diagnostic ultrasound system. Handle and perform the safety
inspection in accordance with accompanying documents.

Do not place probes, operator’s hands, and puncture adaptors etc. in the path
of high-frequency current.
The probe could be damaged, and the patient, examiner or operator could receive
burns. High frequencies may impair the ability of this instrument to produce images.
Operate this instrument with caution, paying attention to the positions of the
counter electrode plates and the connecting cord relative to the probe.
Do not use the instrument in conjunction with a cardiac defibrillator. Instrument
failure could result.
Position it and the probe cables as far away as possible from other appliances and
their cables.
Note that electromagnetic radiation from this instrument may cause other medical
electrical equipment nearby to function abnormally. In this case, stop combined use
with such an instrument immediately.

Precautions for use of probes

• Use only the probe specified in the “Instructions for Use”.
• Refer to the accompanying documents for the probe for the information about its
specification, handling, inspection, storage, and transportation.

Precautions on inspection and cleaning

• Perform the inspection before using this instrument. Refer to the “Instructions for Use” for
details.
Clean the instrument, probe, and peripheral instruments after use.
• Perform periodical safety and measurement accuracy inspection of this instrument. Refer to
the “Instructions for Use” for details.

Precautions concerning power cables and power plugs

Plug the power cable provided directly into a hospital-grade power outlet.
There is a risk of electric shock or fire. Do not connect the instrument to an extension
cable, or to a branched circuit.
Do not damage, modify or break the power cable or the power plug. Do not
place heavy objects on cables, twist them, bundle them, pull them, or bend
them excessively.
A damaged power cable can cause electric shock and short-circuiting. If the power
cable or plug is found to be damaged, unplug the power plug immediately, stop
using the instrument, and contact our office.
Unplug the power cable plug from the hospital-grade power outlet periodically
and clean it.
If the instrument will not be used for a long period, unplug it from the
hospital-grade power outlet and store the power cable gently coiled. Then set
the battery shutdown switch to Disconnect mode.
It could cause short circuiting or electric shock.

Cutting Off the Power

Disconnect the power plug out from the hospital-grade power outlet.

Moving the Instrument

When not Using the Cart

1. Shut down the instrument and prepare it for movement.
Power Cable and AC adapter
Disconnect the power plug from the hospital grade power outlet and disconnect the power cable
and AC adapter from the instrument. Gently coil the power cable and AC adapter cable when holding
it.
NOTE: After disconnecting the AC adapter connector from the instrument, place a cap on the AC
adapter connector. Take care not to touch the AC adapter connector pins when installing the cap.

Probes and Other Peripherals

Detach probes, probe holders, USB flash drives, peripherals, etc. from the instrument and put them
away in their own cases. Alternatively, wrap them in a soft cloth or similar protective materials. If
equipped with a probe storage tray (option), use it to store probes or probe holders.
NOTE: Take care to remove the probe holdergently or you may drop the probes. First, remove the
probes before removing the probe holder. If you want to later store a probe in the probe storage
tray, insert it in its probe holder before storing it. A probe cannot be secured without a probe
holder.

2. Remove the instrument from the cart if necessary.
