Q.U.A.K.E – Quality information for Understanding

and Knowing Earthquakes

Bulahan, Stephen Rey

Evangelista, Jessie

Gabayoyo, Mhera B.

Nunag, Nikka

Santos, Ginalyn
Statement of the Problem
1. How will this website affect or benefit its beneficiaries?

2. How will this be better than information displayed or shared publicly, like the News,
Social Media, PHIVOLCS Website and Others?

3. How many people will prefer a website for Earthquake Tips rather than text to subscribe
SMS notifications?

Goal Statement
1. To provide ordinary people access toeasy to understand knowledge about what to do
during and after a calamity. Specifically earthquakes.

2. To improve upon the ways earthquake information is disseminated, distributed and

shared.

3. To eliminate possible confusion due to mix-ups of information about earthquakes by

having a single website where most, if not all information can be found.
Preliminary Literature Review

Maria Verza (2017) in her article “Mexico Struggles to find the Missing from
Earthquake” stated that “A case of some very high-profile misinformation: A top navy official
announced there were no missing children at a collapsed Mexico City school where the
purported plight of a girl trapped alive in the rubble had captivated people across the nation and
abroad.”

The article is closely related to the research as one of the Goal Statements is to help
prevent misinformation about earthquakes.

K.E. CARR (2017) in his/her article “What’s an Earthquake” stated that “Earthquakes
happen when the moving tectonic plates that make up the surface of the Earth move apart or
bump into each other, or slide under each other. This movement tears apart the surface of the
Earth, or crunches it up. Most often, this just means a little shaking for a few seconds, and
nothing very serious happens.”

The article is closely related to the research as these are the type of information that the
website aims to display to the public.

In a Wikipedia page about “The Triangle of Life” it is stated that The Triangle of Life is a
controversial theory about how to survive a major earthquake, typically promoted via viral
emails. The theory advocates methods of protection very different from the mainstream advice of
"drop, cover, and hold on" method widely supported by reputable agenciesIn particular, the
method's developer and key proponent, Doug Copp, recommends that at the onset of a major
earthquake, building occupants should seek shelter near solid items that will provide a protective
space, a void or space that could prevent injury or permit survival in the event of a major
structural failure, a "pancake collapse", and specifically advises against sheltering under tables.

The literature is closely related to the research as these information that are not usually
seen are often not said, the website aims to provide these information to the ordinary citizen.
Methodology
The researchers will be using Abridge methods, Utilizing both quantitative and qualitative
research. Quantitative for Survey Questionnaire to get the opinion of AMA College Caloocan
Senior High school Students and Qualitative to measure and find out the effectiveness of the
website.
