Assignment - Smile Design Requirements

Discuss the main factors to be considered when designing a smile and relate
these to occlusal function. Explain which factors are essential to long term
functional success and those that relate entirely to the aesthetics of the smile.
Define what you understand by the term smile design?

In your answer you should consider and explain the importance of these
factors and what consequences or complications can arise if the smile is
improperly planed. If possible bring in your own personal clinical experience
or idea on occlusion and its importance to your restorative practice.

Introduction:
A smile is not a static state; it is an action with so many elements surrounding
the teeth to form the smile, which makes it important for dental professionals
to understand the involvement of those elements to give patients the best
customized and proportionate outcome.
“Smile design” as a term doesn’t completely grasp the concept of the process,
as many confuse it with digital advances, “smile analysis and design” form a
better description, so in this review we aim to determine the main factors that
a clinician should look into for smile reformation giving the best long term
functional and aesthetically pleasing outcome.
Review:
1- Golden proportions vs. customizations
2- Facial aesthetics and modern trends
3- Pink aesthetics, white, black & pink balance
4- factors for long term functional success
5- aesthetic factors (symmetry )
