Come to Success!

(Hayya Alal Falah)

First Sermon
All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds. I praise Him the
Most Exalted praises that are innumerable as befitting to His great
favours. I bear witness that there is no deity save Allah, having no
associates. I also bear witness that our Master Muhammad is the
Servant of Allah and His Messenger. May the peace and blessings of
Allah be upon him, his pure blessed family and companions, and all
those who follow them in righteousness till the Day of Judgment.
As to what follows,
I urge you, O servants of Allah, and myself to be aware that you are
asked to obey Him the Most High, in line with His orders, “so fear
Allah, O you of understanding, that you may be successful.” (Al-
Maida: 100).
Dear Muslims,
During night and day, eventide and early in the morning, the
minarets in mosques call “Come for success! (Hayya Alal Falah).”
That is: hasten to all that which is good for you and that which may
bring you happiness in this world and the Hereafter. Falah means
success in this worldly life and winning the dwelling of Paradise in
the Hereafter, something which can be achieved in many ways.
This calls us to advise each other on the ways through which one can
become successful. In fact, success was mentioned in around forty
places in the Book of Allah the Almighty. In the beginning of Surat
al Baqara, the holy Quran mentions verses that are precise, listing the
causes of success. Allah, the Most Exalted, says, “who believe in the
unseen, establish prayer, and spend out of what We have
provided for them, and who believe in what has been revealed to
you, [O Muhammad], and what was revealed before you, and of
the Hereafter they are certain [in faith]. Those are upon [right]
guidance from their Lord, and it is those who are the successful.”
(Al-Baqara: 3-5).
In the above Ayas, (the successful) means the winners of the great
recompense in return of their good deeds and belief in Allah, His
Books and Messengers. Indeed, believing in Allah, the Most Exalted
and Sublime, is the beginning of the path towards success and
winning the highest ranks in Allah’s Paradise. For this reason, the
Messenger of Allah pbuh called aloud whilst people were assembled
saying, “O people! Say ‘there is no deity save Allah,’ and you will
certainly be successful.”
In this sense, amongst the most important things that should be
firmly assured in the heart are the faith in the Messenger of Allah
pbuh, honouring him, glorifying his qualities, loving him and
following his guidance. Allah the Most Exalted praised those who
believed in and support him and gave glad tidings to them of being
successful. The Almighty says, “so they who have believed in him,
honoured him, supported him and followed the light which was
sent down with him - it is those who will be the successful.” (Al-
Aaraf: 157).
Truly, it is a bless from Allah that the believer follows the commands
of his Lord and adhere to them as well as follow the guidance of the
Messenger of Allah pbuh. They are really successful those who do
so. The Prophet pbuh said, “Adhere to the righteousness and you will
be successful. And know that the best of your deeds is prayer.”
In like manner, Allah the Almighty has prepared success for those
who observe their prayer regularly. The Most Exalted says,
“certainly will the believers have succeeded: They who are
during their prayer humbly submissive.” (Al-Muminoon: 1-2).
This is because prayer is amongst the acts of worship that leads to the
path of Allah’s satisfaction and winning His Heavens.
Thus, he is really successful who is a good performer of prayer,
showing diligence in observing it in congregation so as to be
amongst those who bow and prostrate until Allah looks upon them
and writes them amongst the successful. The Most Exalted says, “O
you who have believed, bow and prostrate and worship your
Lord and do good - that you may succeed.” (Al-Hajj: 77).
This meaning was further accentuated by the Messenger of Allah
pbuh as he said, “Indeed the first act of worship by which a servant
will be called to account on the Day of Resurrection is his prayer. If
it is perfected, he is successful and saved.”
2
O Successful Believers,
On its own merits, Zakat is one other great deed that leads to
attaining success. Truly, those who pay Zakat, will, by Allah’s
Grace, be amongst the winners those Allah the Most Gracious
describes saying, “and whoever is protected from the stinginess of
his soul - it is those who will be the successful.” (Al-Hashr: 9).
Spending on charity and helping relatives, the poor and needy people
are amongst the causes of success, for Allah the Almighty says, “so
give the relative his right, as well as the needy and the traveller.
That is best for those who desire the countenance of Allah, and it
is they who will be the successful.” (Ar-Room: 38).
What more, all these great actions will add to the scale of good deeds
of the believer on the Day of Judgment. Thus, they shall, by Allah’s
favour, be from amongst the successful. This was emphasised by
Allah the Almighty for He says, “and those whose scales are heavy
[with good deeds] - it is they who are the successful.” (Al-
Muminoon: 102).
More to the point, if the believer’s record of good deeds becomes
heavier, then his endeavour in this worldly life has been fruitful and,
ultimately, he has attained a great attainment. In this sense, there is
really nothing heavier in the scale of good deeds than good manners
as advocated by the Messenger of Allah pbuh when he said,
“Nothing is placed on the Scale that is heavier than good character.”
No wonder because good conduct is a purifier of the soul. Allah the
Almighty says, “he has certainly succeeded who purifies himself.”
(Al-Aala: 14).
Furthermore, another way to attain success is by reciting Dhikr
(remembrance of Allah) often. Indeed, Dhikr is heavy in the scale of
good deeds, beloved to the Most Merciful and easy for the tongue.
So, you are urged, dear worshipers, to remember Allah the Most
Exalted much in line with his commands: “and remember Allah
often that you may be successful.” This is because the
remembrance of Allah imparts assurance to the heart and purifies the
soul. The Almighty says, “he has succeeded who purifies it.” (Ash-
Shams: 9).

3
On this account, purifying the soul can be achieved by embracing
good manners, improving one’s behaviours and controlling one’s
words and deeds. It can also be cleansed by being grateful to its
Creator for the favours He endowed upon it and thanking Him for
His bounties. For this reason, the Prophets and the forerunners in
faith who followed them used to invoke their Lord saying, “my
Lord, enable me to be grateful for Your favour which You have
bestowed upon me and upon my parents and to do righteousness
of which You approve. And admit me by Your mercy into [the
ranks of] Your righteous servants.” (An-Naml: 19).
Having this in mind, we pray to Allah the Almighty to continue
blessing us with His favours and grant us from His bounties. O
Allah, we beseech You to help us to be grateful to You and make us
amongst the successful who will win Your Paradise.
May Allah the Almighty guide us all to obey Him and obey His
Messenger Muhammad pbuh and obey those He have commanded us
to obey in line with His orders: “O you who have believed, obey
Allah and obey the Messenger and those in authority amongst
you.” (An-Nisaa: 59).
May Allah direct us all to the blessings of the Glorious Quran and the
Sunna of His Messenger pbuh.
I say this and ask Allah for forgiveness for me and you, so invoke
Him for forgiveness, for He is the Most Forgiving, the Most
Merciful.
Second Sermon
All praise is due to Allah, the Owner of Majesty and Honour, the
Possessor of Success and the Grantor of bounties. To Him all the
praises and thanks are due at all times. I bear witness that there is no
deity save Allah, having no associates. I also bear witness that our
Master Muhammad is the servant of Allah and His Messenger. May
the peace and blessings of Allah be upon our Master Muhammad, his
pure family, companions, and all those who follow them in
righteousness till the Day of Judgment.
I urge you, O Servants of Allah, and myself to be aware that you are
asked to obey Him, the Most Exalted and Sublime.
O Worshipers,
4
Please know that showing gratitude to Allah, the Almighty, for His
innumerable favours is one of the causes of attaining success. The
Most Exalted says, “so remember the favours of Allah that you
might succeed.” (Al-Aaraf: 69). That is to say, remember the
bounties that Allah the Most Gracious has bestowed on you and the
favours that He granted to you, preferring you above all His other
Creation. Moreover, thank your Lord and you will, by His grace,
increase you in favours and, ultimately, you will succeed in winning
Paradise as your perpetual abode in the Hereafter, as well as
achieving all your aspirations in this worldly life.
Truly, it is from the great favours of Allah the Almighty that He has
endowed upon us in the UAE is the prosperity, success and
excellence it accomplished at all levels. So, we thank Him the Most
Exalted for blessing us with stability of the homeland, welfare,
harmony, unity and wisdom of the ruler. We are also grateful to our
Lord for helping us in keeping the UAE’s flag fluttering high in the
sky. “Then, to Allah belongs [all] praise - Lord of the heavens
and Lord of the earth, Lord of the worlds.” (Al-Jathiya: 36). To
Him is due all praise in the first [life] and the Hereafter. And He is
the Bestower of bounties, the Generous.
So, let us pray to Allah the Most Exalted to protect the UAE and
continue preserving its flag wavering high in the sky.
That is said, please bear in mind that you are instructed to invoke
peace and blessings on the Prophet pbuh. Allah, the Most Sublime,
says, “indeed, Allah confers blessing upon the Prophet, and His
angels [ask Him to do so]. O you who have believed, ask [Allah to
confer] blessing upon him and ask [Allah to grant him] peace.”
(Al-Ahzab: 56).
On the same matter, the Prophet pbuh said, “For everyone who
invokes a blessing on me will receive ten blessings from Allah.”
O Allah, please confer Your blessings and grant peace upon our
Prophet Muhammad pbuh, his family and all of the companions.
May Allah be pleased with the Rightly Guided Caliphs: Abu Bakr,
Umar, Uthman and Ali, and all of the noble Companions.

5
O Lord, we seek Your favour to make pardoning amongst our
qualities, tolerance our character, compassion our inherited
behaviour and giving our culture.
O Allah, please continue blessing us with happiness, tranquillity and
welfare. Our Lord, please continue blessing our nation, houses,
families and relatives with contentment.
May Allah have mercy on the honourable martyrs of our country and
those of the coalition and gather them with the righteous. May Allah
make their dwelling with the ones upon whom Allah has bestowed
favour of the prophets and the steadfast affirmers of truth. Indeed,
You hear and answer to the supplications.
O Allah, please grant the best reward for the families of the martyrs
and offer them patience and solace. May Allah grant victory to the
soldiers of the Arab Coalition who gathered to restore the rights to
their owners. O Lord, please be by their side and guide the Yemeni
people to everything that is good. O Allah, make them rally for the
word of truth and legitimacy, and bless them with welfare and
stability, O the Most Generous.
O Lord, we beseech You to bless all of the Muslim countries and the
whole world with stability and peace.
O Allah, we supplicate to You to make patience our way for
achieving creativity, seeking knowledge, obtaining higher status and
serving our beloved country as well as keeping its flag fluttering high
in the sky.
O Allah, we seek Your grace to increase the UAE in delight and
beauty and give the best of rewards and recompense to whoever
sowed the seeds of goodness and welfare in it. Indeed, You are the
Most Merciful of the merciful.
May Allah grant success and continued health and care to the UAE
President HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. May Allah also
ensure success to his Vice-President, trustworthy Crown Prince and
his brothers, Their Highnesses the Rulers of the Emirates.
O Allah, please forgive all of the Muslims, men and women, living
and dead. May Allah have mercy on Sheikh Zayed, Sheikh Maktoum
and the Late UAE Sheikhs. O Lord, forgive and show mercy on them
and bless them with Your kindness and satisfaction. O Lord, forgive
6
and show mercy on our parents, relatives and whoever has done a
favour to us.
We pray to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds, to continue blessing the
UAE with stability and welfare and bless its provisions. O Allah,
please continue blessing the UAE with safety and security.
O Allah, please grant us wisdom in our speech and in our deeds. O
Allah, please make us amongst those who fulfil their promises and
are committed to their covenants. Indeed, You are the Possessor of
Glory and Honour.
O Allah, we implore you to send upon us wealthy rain and make us
not amongst those who are desperate. O Allah, relieve us! O Allah,
relieve us! O Allah, relieve us! O Lord, provide us from the blessings
of the sky a beneficial rain and make our crops grow.
Remember Allah and He will remember you. Be grateful of His
benevolence and He will increase His blessings to you.
Please stand up for prayer.
