Eduardo Mutuc is a Metal smith, born and raised in Pampanga.

He dedicated his life in making


religious and secular artworks. The designs are complicated and has different sizes.

He entered the industry of woodcarving just for additional income although he is already working
as a farmer at the age of 29 years old. He started as an apprentice and later on learned a lot
through his co-workers who served as his mentors. He only finished elementary and was not
able to finish high school and college but that didnt hinder him instead, he used that as a
motivation to strive harder for his goals.

all masterpiece has its own design and sizes. His works are complicated but it matches his
environment. for him, handmade products are better than machine-made ones especially if
there's a person drawn in it.

Darhata Sawabi is a tausug that embraced their culture and showed his patriotism through
making their traditional costume called Pis Syabit. She's making these stuff to improve her self-
sufficiency and to avoid bothering her relatives. She is paid for 2000 pesos only and the money
needed for the materials are deducted in the payment.

• it is hard to make traditional costumes, thats why she is crowned as the expert of making those
stuff.
• When in times of conflict, her family was forced to evacuate causing her to stop (weaving?
babe diko alam english ng paghahabi) She just had the opportunity of making costumes again
after the conflict, she started all over again; started with nothing.
• She became a teacher of making Pis Syabit, the students she taught and molded became
teachers also of making the said costume. She still wants to teach more generation so that their
culture will never die.

• He is recognized as one of the best in mat weaving in the indigenous community of Ungod
Matata. The designs of his mats are complex, it consists of geometric figures, symmetry and
good combination of colors. It takes three months to finish one mat.
• He first gets pandan leaves in the forest where he prefer those with lots of torn to make ('mas
matibay' im out of words bib huhu) mats. He (balatan) the leaves and tear out the torns.
Afterwards he exposes it under the sun and then lets it boil in a hot water with dye. Then he will
expose it under the sun again and lets it dry for about 3-4 days. And after that drying session,
he will start making the mat.
