Tourism, a primary engine of growth for the nation

The tourism industry is a vital, dynamic and evolving industry. It is one of the world’s largest
industries with a global economic contribution. Most importantly, the impact of tourism can be
clearly seen of the contribution to the national economy and the ability to generate decent work
and wealth across the entire country. Alternatively, there are some countries that are solely
dependent on tourism and such economy results on being vulnerable by different factors.

To start with , in 2005 around 3,700,000 tourists visited Argentina , generating foreign exchange
for 3,254 billion dollars, this suggests that tourism it’s the mainly contribution to the national
economy. For example, inbound tourism (when a person from his/her home country travels to
another country) boosts the economic growth of a country’s economy and becomes a s significant
source of income.

In second place, the impact of tourism can be reflected in the job market, the sector generates
genuine employment, encouraging local development. Job creation is to any discussion the most
positive effect on tourism. According to the 2017 Economic Impact Report by the World Travel and
Tourism Council indicates that the Industry creates one out of 10 jobs worldwide. In other words,
a rotating mega event such as the Olympics or the World Cup will benefit the host destination by
attracting global attention.

Notwithstanding, countries relaying solely on tourism may find themselves on vulnerable

situations. Although I agree with the idea of tourism as an economic development incentive, it is a
well know fact that jobs are quite commonly seasonal and insecure with no extra benefits. A
simple example is how some areas can be inundated with visitors during busy times, and then
virtually deserted for many months, and locals who do not live in specific tourist areas miss out
and suffer relative decline.

It might be concluded from these ideas that many countries in the world rely heavily on tourism as
a key source of income and employment nowadays. In the 21st century tourism is closely linked to
development. Therefore in conclusion tourism is the backbone of a country.
